The Case AGAINST Christian Nationalism
I loved your book and this lecture!
This isn't a problem at all, actually. Paul tells us that he learned about Jesus in the Jewish scriptures and from hallucinations or dreams. Also, John the Baptist was supposedly baptizing people in the name of Christ before he had ever met Jesus. Knowing this, your assumption becomes entirely pointless and even illogical. If you've read the Bible, you know what you're saying is not true.
Very good video with one major caveat: never ever ever ever EVER use time or time terminology when talking about spiritual matters. Time is bound with space, and we're talking about things outside of space and time. So from our point of view, hell is empty--but it has always been and will always be, and has always been filled with the rebel angels and the wicked of mankind.
And they both take the first part of their book title from OG Larry Hurtado’s work.
Interesting 🤔🧐
Creedists need the Nicean Creed, Christians don't. The doctrine isn't Biblical.
I hate that the word gnṓsis has been trashed my gnostics because it is used almost exclusively in the new testament anywhere it says something like "the knowledge of God". Gnostics were dealt with by Paul in 1 Timothy 6:20
I appreciate the review, though I’ve already watched “For Our Daughters”. I may watch it again with your comments in mind.
Adding sacraments to the order of salvation is to add to faith alone. It may be a historical idea in Catholicism and the Reformation, but it is still another gospel.
The 'love' of this god is grace for abusers and pity for victims.
Just responding to the comment in the video that Trump supporters won't watch ``For Our Daughters''. A good set of videos to point them to is Pat Kahnke's faith and politics channel on youtube. He's in the process of making about 40 videos based on his book A Christian Case Against Donald Trump.
Rainbow 🌈 kids doing all they can to try and refute Moses so they can live like 🎪🤡
Seeing the reaction to the reaction is even more ridiculous than the initial faces of the reaction
Aimee, I agree with you about mixing politics into the documentary.
Methodius was referring to the events of the end time. Some of the hints that he mentioned was that the Ishmaelites were not human beings, and he then goes on to say that they "fly" above mountain peaks and abduct 1 out of 3 people to press into slavery in the wilderness. He has to be thinking about something else because who would've thought about people flying in the 7th century? And he couldn't be talking about the Mongols either. The Northern enemy. He's referring to that forgotten legend about Alexander the Great building an iron wall on the side of a specific mountain in uttermost parts of Siberia. There's a reason why the Mongol empire didn't or failed to conquer (according to Carpini) that remote region..
Is there a specific event being referenced here where a pastor got a standing ovation for confessing this?
That’s what I’m wondering, also I’m wondering why people expect forgiveness for themselves and withhold it from others. When we’re asked to forgive our brother, it’s not asking to wait until he apologises correctly. But alas I have no idea what they’re talking about.
@@Handlehandlehandle320 Just found it. It's in the documentary "For Our Daughters" about 10 minutes in. I don't think they are saying we should withhold forgiveness from them, I think they are saying that we also must hold them accountable, not merely giving a cheap forgiveness while vilifying the victim.
for too long women have been denigrated, abused, denied their use of the Spirit's giftedness, and seen as second class. I hear these kinds of stories around the world,. Too few leaders are held accountable. Far too few abused girls and women given the help they need. Many church leaders remain silent when these stories come to light, and in fact may even support such predators. Thanks to those created this documentary and to those willing to speak may. May their tribe increase.
Grace reminds me that I'm a work in progress. When I see Jesus, then shall I be like him.
It has been way too long!
Are you proud of being so dishonest?
Quick comment the United States of America is a Constitutional Republic NOT a Democracy
5 reasons start at 17:23 into it. Long diatribe before that.
So basically the Didache does not say Jesus is God. That’s a major problem for the Trinity doctrine.
@Aimee: I share your comment around the twelfth minute on the mix of politics with these stories of horror. I would like to share the documentary around as well, but the mix I fear means that many will turn it off because of that.
Egalitarian churches have never had men abuse women?
Of course they have. I don’t think either Aimee or Michael are implying that they don’t. But, as Michael said toward the end of this video, if you believe any sort of gender hierarchy theology, the power dynamics of your church are specifically gendered, and that matters.
And your beliefs inform how you respond when abuse happens.
My knee jerk reaction to the video was resignation as I didn’t know those specific stories but I know those kinds of churches and I was barely surprised. My impulse was really to revisit the 95 Theses which have a good discussion of repentance. These offenders basically got indulgences and a waiver of earthly penalties for their offenses because of their positions.
Me and my co-host are interested in having you on our channel for an interview about your latest book. Where can l contact you?
Grace and Peace to you. I'm Patriarchal, and I watched your video.
Those that believe in a patriarchy should be angrier than most, as this is an obvious corruption of that system and a failure of those who are expected to be trustworthy.
And?
@@Bible33AD That's all. Just wanted to announce my presence and attention. Grace and Peace to you.
@lark8356 Thank you. Having given of ur presence and attention, how will you approach human relationships moving forward if you apply the Jesus lens. Patriarchy is not it, my friend. The grand design is co-regency with unity as "one". Different AND equal my friend.
@@Bible33AD The video hasn't incentivized me to change my approach. I pray I'd change my approach if I realized that the bible teaches co-regency.
11:00 quoteable “victims get pity but perpetuators get grace.” So common.
Amem
Moses never existed, so there's that.
That's not a fact.
Gnosticism is just paganism
Gnosticism is just another attempt to deny the godliness of Christ, it has more in common with Kabbalah than Christianity
it makes no sense for you to speak while you are still havign Bart speak at the same time.
This is great. Do more. But pause Bart cause it’s hard to here both of you at the same time
Women’s ordination has been a death knell to Anglicanism its fruits have been disastrous for the church. I’d like to go to an Anglican Church but finding a biblical one is becoming difficult! Also even in the conservative ones they still have women bossing over it just behind the scenes.
In this episode, I found out that Dr. Bird is good at making up book titles (like all academics) and he is good at monopoly. Even though I am not a Baptist, it saddens me that my brethren at the SBC are struggling so badly with the abuse scandal. Lot's of prayers for the abused and SBC.
Thank you Michael for your message. ❤ I have been searching for some clarification on this issue of identity in Christ, and you have just pulled out the exact scripture that I needed. Again, thank you and God bless you.
Thank you for this!!!
John explicitly said why he wrote his gospel: 20:30 _Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book._ 31: But these are written that you may believe that *Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,* and that by believing you may have life in his name. Had John wanted to inform people that Jesus was god, this was the place to say so. Also, John 17:3 clearly says only the Father is truly god. John also says in John 20:17: Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to *my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.*’” There's no evidence in the Bible that Jesus thought himself god, and clear evidence against it. The Bible nowhere says only God can forgive sins. It says the Jews were of the opinion that only God can forgive sins. There's a difference. When Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive his brother if his brother sins agains him, Jesus didn't tell Peter only God can forgive sins.
And then there's these verses, which unfortunately Michael Bird fails to bring into this discussion. Bad on him! "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression." ~ 1 Timothy 2:12-14 And, "The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church." ~ 1 Corinthians 14:34-35
Yes!
Thank you sir - I have to think on this some more.
Excellent
Thanks

The big baller of the subapostolic era. Many faithful today have no idea the suffering of early Christians. I think many of us would accept "the mark" to maintain comfortable materialistic lifestyle. We're fortunate.
Whats funny is that very few Cristians even know what Gnostic Cristiananty is. I main knowledge so if you read the Bible you are a Gnostic because you know stuff
