I'm Glen "the Freq" Thomas and I'm a musician, songwriter and graphic art designer from Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. My youtube channel contains many of my solo works, live performances with many side projects over the years, and goofy homemade videos about music education, biking, canoeing and more. I just love media. Being an Indie Music artist, RUclips has been a great tool for helping to promote us underground musicians where other avenues have failed. I also have some educational videos about my local music area along with random topics like home recording, hearing protection for musicians and more. Any questions or comments, send them my way. Enjoy. :-)
April Wine Drummer Jerry Mercer at my friends camp... jamming.
Legendary Canadian drummer Jerry Mercer from the band April Wine is now retired and I believe just turned 85 years old (2024). He comes up one time yearly in August to my buddies camp near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to jam with musician friends in our local area. No rehearsals. It's just a jam. This video is from 2021 when he was 82. He just came up a week ago August 2024 and is still playing drums although retired from April Wine and touring. It's all about fun for him now.

GLEN YAPS - THE GUESS WHO Lawsuit
Просмотров 1363 месяца назад
It's always sad when bands you loved growing up end up in lawsuits with each of the band members. It's also sad when some member branch off on their own refusing to be part of the band that made them famous. The Guess Who lawsuit is a mess created by 2 former members trying to squash a former member of carrying on the band. We've seen this with a number of bands recently but this battle has a t...

My 10" Speaker PA Cabinet to Bass Amp Cabinet Conversion for a Practice Amp.

My wife and I restored and converted this old Fender PA speaker top into a tiny bass cabinet for practice. Bought a 10" David Eden speaker for $20 and was given the cabinet for free. Found off green vinyl for 12 bucks and a can of glue in a spray can. Stripped the old fuzzy covering off the cabinet, traced those old pieces onto the new material, cut them and then painted all the hardware semi g...
Glen Thomas - Song "SNARG" Bass and Drum Parts (old song)

This is a video containing the demo bass and drum tracks that I created for my friend's song "SNARG". I love playing bass and drums on the same recordings. As a bonus I've included a version with the raw guitar track done by Mike Cliffe. These were the work files to make sure all the parts jived together. The song is slow at the start but has a funky ending. This song is old and these are track...

Glen Thomas - "Swamp Fly" lyric video
Просмотров 616 месяцев назад
Another original song I just finished. It's got a country vibe to it with maybe a touch of blues and definitely some of my weirdness that I always put into my material. The song is called "Swamp Fly" and I first created the one main guitar riff back in the late 90's and it just sat in a bunch of my demos until 2022. I dug it out and "tinkered" with it off and on and finally completed it. It sti...

Glen Practicing Drum Noise and Ostinatos.

It's my late mom's heavenly birthday today so as I always do on her birthday, I dedicate my day to music. She was a musician and helped me find my way in music. I just sat behind the drums today, pressed the record button of my recorder and played a few ostinato patterns for fun along with some other drum noise. Nothing is "perfect" in this video. Let's just say it's work in progress.
Soundcheck Live - Video Snippets with Valerie and Elly Feb 17 2024

On Saturday Feb. 17 2024 our band Soundcheck had singers Valerie P. and Elly M. fill in for our singer who was out of town that night. It was one of those "wing it" nights where we just jammed out songs we thought we could get through. Although the songs weren't perfect in execution, we had some good laughs and it was just a totally enjoyable jam night with friends.

Always a fun tune
My brakes also have the same problem
I’m a singing drummer and Feel your pain literally. I just stopped using acoustic drums on stage in order to be able to not damage my hearing and be able to mix and record full time. Also as you say, I couldn’t use all my ghost notes and finnesse I developed studying and practicing for decades. Sick of it. I’ve been using V-Drums 16 years live now and love it. I have control of the volume and can play with ghost notes and nuance and even adjust the sensitivity and curve shapes to bring up ghost notes or get a more consistent kick. setup is quick especially with the DWe kit as it’s wireless so no mics or cables. Every drum sound can go into its own channel directly into a digital mixer or out via just 2 channels for smaller gigs. No ear pain, clean sound and low stage volume. I take a feed from the rest of band as a stereo mix and patch it into my mix-in on the drums module and then I connect my in-ears to the module. I have control Of my own drums, vocals and rest of the band. I generate my own click, backings if needed and have my own sample library of drum sounds made for each song. Playing is so enjoyable and perfect studio sound every time. To retain my collection of personal Drums, I sampled my splashes, crashes and hihats, snares etc so I’m still using my fave sounds. Took a few weeks of work to sample them all but worth it.
Nice Glen thanks. Found my way here because I’m returning to my Camco I’ve had since 1990. Used it for decades then in 2008 started playing other pedals via endorsement scheme. Then some expensive direct drives that I’ve never gelled with. I whipped out the old camco last week and it’s much faster and nicer to play so I’m back :). Found an old double right foot only so I’ll use mine as the left, cut a plate out of some aluminium (we don’t have access to aluminum down here in Australia haha). I don’t have a linking rod and universal joints but I’m guessing the DW ones are the same size or if not I’ll mod it. Could you tell me, did the doubles have 3 equal springs of the same tension/stiffness. Thanks
I totally love my Camco pedals both single ones and my cheater beater ones. They are quick and my foot likes the foot board since I'm a flat foot player most of the time. The double Camco has 3 springs that are all the same at least on mine they are. I have 2 double pedal Camcos. 2 springs on the main pedal and 1 on the slave pedal. I would think a Tama or DW linking rod or drive shaft would work. Maybe even a Gibraltar one. Have fun reconnecting with your Camco. 🙂
@@barkingeye thanks for the info. Yes for me they are the best and super light and fold up for flights too. Does the left side just clamp directly to the footplate and not screwed from underneath?
@@onomatopoeidia Interesting that you mention the mounting of the slave side. My 2 pedals are different in that aspect. One just clamps to a metal flat steel plate similar to a bass drum rim with no other fastening, "however" my other pedal along with that, has a bracket underneath the foot board across the 2 chrome rods that hold the pedal to the bearing/ spring tower that is screwed into the main plate. Not sure what design was first as I bought both of mine used and never checked the design year of each. I have no issues with either one moving on that plate once tightened down on the main flat bar that emulates a kick drum rim. Here's a pic of the slave with that bracket on the slave pedal.. Look close near the heel under the footboard. Hopefully this link works. reverb.com/item/29765956-tama-camco-double-bass-drum-pedal-1990s

i enjoyed this for some weird reason i like the alter ego for is weird toy
The new look Guess Whoi promoted their shows using imagery of the Bachman/Cummings era and playing snippets songs from the records in radio adds as well. Burton felt this was disserving the audiences. I'm glad he and Randy won the law suit. Jim Kale trademarked the name under shady reasoning and sometimes called the people in his touring Guess Who trained monkeys. To shut the who mess down, Burton pulled the rug out from under them by restricting them from performing songs he wrote.
Grew up at Pancake Bay...my Unc owned BA gas station...now torn down😪 be heading up summer 2025 agate hunting...cheers.
How did you remove the stuck oil cup caps? All 3 of mine are stuck
I used a Q-tip and just sprayed some WD40 on the cotton tip and just went around the edge of the cap with it. You don't have to soak it. Just a little bit.
Kit sounds great!
Where are you located... phone number?
I LOVE my Mackie Onyx 32.4. It has almost everything I need, with the exception of Tape Playback inputs/flipswitches and Solo buttons. But thats why one day, when I have the space, I will pick up a Mackie 32-8.
Have you ever tried noise gates on the drums? You lose the dynamics on the snare but it’s a club gig nobody really cares. Good luck.
Another one I loved playing.
Do you know if its possible to switch out the sprocket with a strap/cam ?
Good question. I don't really know... however... the pedal design is similar to the earlier DW pedals and maybe one from their pedal cams might fit. Even one of Tama's "other" pedal designs might have a cam that may fit. Might have to see if some has done it online. Let me know if you have success with it.
Headroom.
Love this ❤ One of my favorite songs ❤
I love it too :-) Thanks for watching :-)
Loved playing this tune.
Just came across a “Tempo kit” for $200 on Facebook marketplace. Not as mint as your kit but still looks nice. Thanks for this video and the other video you posted giving some background on the brand. Sounds great!
Thanks for the comment on the video and watching the other ones. I'm glad you're getting something out of them. They're fun to make. I wish all of these drums sounded great but it's kind of the luck of the draw where some sound like the big companies of the day and some don't. For $200 you can't go wrong. :-) I've never lost money on these Japanese kits as there is a demand for them so if buy it and not like it you can still get your money back on them.
If you go back, watch and listen carefully, you'll see that he plays basically the same fill, first with two sticks, one broken, and then with the left hand stick and the bass drum substituting for the right stick as he picks up another stick.
I use have vintage 70s sonor that had rings in shell 3 included middle ring . Nice see on other kit.
Beautiful drums, looks and sound.
The drummer doesn’t own the rights to the name! Their bass player ripped off the name by a temporary OK from Bachman & Cummings! And he was originally fired from the band. They are my second favorite Canadian band, but they are dead, and are nothing but a tribute band now! I’ve done several videos on the band, and I’m on Bachman & Cummings side on this! Enough with Tribute bands laying claim to a dead corpse and making money on it to boot! Sorry, but The Guess Who is dead! Go see a better tribute Guess Who band and play less! The drummer doesn’t even show up anymore! New sub btw! ❤
Which is worse? Hearing the original band like the Eagles with Don Henley lip syncing, or a subset of the band with new fresh singers? And by the way, Eagles never told audiences Henley was lip syncing? Of course not. I heard the newer lineup and the lead singer in particular is really talented. +10 Even the Beatles originally did cover songs.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. People out there buying tix for a Guess Who show and unknowingly getting the original drummer. It’s bullshit and wrong. Same with Foreigner.
I'm actually in agreement with you. My problem in the Guess Who situation is that Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman "didn't" have a problem with it for 3 decades. I don't understand why they all of a sudden had a conscience now. Yes.. I agree with you that we are seeing "cover" bands under the name of famous band names now with one or no original members but all of them and tons of others,,, Boston, War, Queensryche etc seemed to be managed that way and those involved are OK with it including most audiences. To my knowledge... the Guess Who situation is the first of it's kind to allow it for nearly 3 decades and then all of a sudden nail the band for publishing issues. So bottom line is... I do agree with you over all except that is was wrong to stop their shows an hour before they were to play.. You missed my point in the video but I appreciate your input.
five seconds on Google and any ticket buyer will know the band only has one original member.
@@wwz1011 people don’t do that
Agreed Kyle! Complete rip offs!❤😂😂😂
This is absolutely crazy to me. Burton SHOULD be pissed. He and Randy should have been pissed years ago.
Like I said in my video... They let it go for decades but only now it means something to Burton. Burton still gets money for the song use. He isn't losing money. In fact, he gets paid every time this present Guess Who band plays his songs. Burton isn't losing a thing so I'm puzzled by his lawsuit.
GREAT SOUND PLAYED WELL TO BRING OUT THE TONE
I think the truck with the bed topper is a Revell. There was a truck by Revell called Giant Tracks I believe. There was also a truck called Swamp Monster without the topper. But this truck looks like take off of those trucks.
Thanks for your info on the kit. :-)

It was nice looking at the organ, the garage door and you, and listening but since your not actually showing the bearings you are oiling and or showing the locations of word items points your refering to Im no further along than the same vague and repetitious other videos on the Hammond organ user videos.....but thanks anyway. could you do a redo and point the camera and use a pointer stick to more precisely describe what we are hearing about? It would be appreciated greatly and most helpful
I had an old tempro stencil kit. My mom got it at a garage sale for 75 dollars. 12, 16, 20 kick. Orange sparkle finish. The snare shell was cracked real bad. I stripped the hardware off, and tossed it.
I've got the 24-8 and the bridge meter and a spare board for parts I love mixing on it in my hybrid setup.

No.. Windows 10.
ditch the tambourine.. but good vocal.
I finally decided to switch to Evans and Aquarian... I've never had problems with Remo before, though I have been hearing all these quality issues. But just recently I got a set of 10,12,14 USA coated emperors for my toms and a 14' coated ambassador for my snare. For the first time I am totally not satisfied with the quality of all the heads. There is less coating than before, you can see through the head, and the sound of my drums is not as good as it was. They are also not tuning well. Also the print of the Remo logo is faded compared to the old. So if they are lowering the costs with coats and ink, then they are probably lowering costs with other materials too. Decision taken, no more Remo for me!
Hey Bro, I really enjoyed your video. I am running something similar but my console is 24 instead of 32 channel and I have the MOTU 24/I and the MOTU 24/O. I use mic pres for all my mics, I have 2 Warm Audio 412s and an API rack with 3 API 512 pres, 2 Warm Audio WA-12 pres and an A Design EM Blue pre. I have 2 compressors at the moment, I have an Warm Audio WA-76 and an Universal Audio LA-610. I also wanted to let you know that I have 5 Apogee units I want to sell at a good price. I have 3 Apogee Rosetta 800's up to 192k and 1 Rosetta 800 up to 96k converters. I also have a Apogee Big Ben Master clock for sale also. I just subscribe to your channel man.
I just found this channel and I read your comment. I have the 24-8 and I record to a Mackie HDR24/96 recorder.
Great overview. I have a similar setup utilizing a 32-8 with an Apollo interface. In addition, I have an Alesis HD-24 and I also have a 2" tape machine in the event that I want that sound. I have all of those devices connected to patchbays first and I can patch them to the 32-8 as I see fit. You did mention one thing that is super correct, in that I was constantly buying and upgrading my recording set-up and every time I bought a new device, there was a learning curve associated with it that took away from the bottom line of actually creating music. I found myself spending stupid hours dicking around with technology instead of creating. That would have been acceptable if when I turned on the switch, everything would be perfect and ready to roll, but it never was. There was always some sort of routing of the interface I/O's or the levels were not hot enough, or a plugin that worked fine the last time I used it would get quirky and start to give me problems. The easiest time I ever had in my studio was when I had my Tascam analog 8 track with the 32-8. I loaded a reel of tape, engage record and I was creating and recording.
Hey! great video. I am having issues with my pedal, found your video and turns out that my pedal doesn't have the metal rod sticking up or the metal part up top with the wing nut aside from whatever issue it has going on. does that affect anything or should I be on the lookout for those parts as well? But your vid has given me the confidence to get in there and see what is actually going on. thanks!
That rod with the wing nut and spring adds resistance to the pedal to help add the feel of a reel hi-hat stands spring resistance. You always have to use a little effort to push down a real hi-hat foot pedal. I think Roland's goal with that rod, spring and wingnut was to give you that effect. It also basically helps lift the pedal back up from the down position. I'm not sure as to why yours is missing. I would suspect it has broken off or a previous owner removed it as I don't recall a version being sold without it. I could be wrong though. To be quite honest though.... you could probably make your own spring system if you can't find original parts for your pedal. It's basically a bolt, a spring, a type of washer and a wing nut. It does help. I'm not sure how it would feel without that part under the pedal. I would assume the pedal would not be that responsive. In other words... the pedal would probably bottom out all the time. That may affect parts on the inside. You won't know until you take it apart.
Hey I've been looking everywhere for info on this pedal. Mine came with a YD 700 (early 70s) I bought used a little while ago.
With you having one and me... Those are the only 2 I know of. I'm even part of a Yamaha Facebook group and no one has been able to date this pedal. With your comment on yours at least we know it's early 70s. Definitely an interesting "mystery" pedal.
He caught the stick without looking at it. Guy had cat reflexes.
i miss my old tempo drum set. only had the bass and floor but still miss them
Muchísimas gracias desde Andalucía, Spain. Me has solucionado el problema Glen. Estaba s punto de tirar el FD7 a la basura y has aparecido tú. Saludos y agradecimientos
Glad the video helped. ;-)
I just bought the Dyno-matic and it is a nice pedal. The swivel feature of the original was a key feature though as how many play their pedal with their foot exactly straight on the footboard. I may look into getting a strap kit and trying that though with the Dyno-matic
I've heard from a few people that tried the strap and liked it. I've not tried the new Dyno-matic pedal but will at some point. My issue is I've always been a flat foot player but also always play barefoot so I'm not sure how my feet will like the foot board grooves on the Dyno-matic.
I have only three dvds of the ghoul

What on earth did you shoot this unfocused video with -- a potato camera? Regarding oiling, the owner manual (available online) gives oiling instructions, especially as regards the tub near the vibrato scanner. Also, a dry organ will require days, if not a week or more, for the oil to wick down the threads to all of the bearings. Hearing it scream like that makes me cringe. You can use Deoxit on the tube pins and in the tube sockets. Those paper capacitors on top of the tone generator will NOT kill you. The tone generator and keying circuit uses tiny signal voltages. Capacitors in power supplies and amps can retain high voltages. Those 'parameter dials' are potentiometers (aka 'pots') for adjusting pedal cut-off and percussion.
Potato Camera.. :-) Funny. Unfortunately the video was done long ago on old technology but also when RUclips had size limits on videos so a huge video file had to be reduced in size and quality. So although I uploaded it recently... it was actually filmed years ago. Thanks for your input on the other stuff.
Got one today, for 50 bucks, misses the tailpiece and it's a bit dirty but looks good.
