Thanks for taking us with you Deke! I absolutely understand your bathing phantasy. And I must admit, when you went into the cellar and I saw those stacks of 78s, I felt that my heart was pounding like a steamhammer. What a beautiful place! In fact, my favorite record store over here in Central Europe is very similar, and it is perfect for finding odd records with great performances by people I never heard of before - only that it is, of course, incomparably smaller.

When I lived on COMO, I went out to your daddy’s house with JG Stewart, looking for some Johnny Smith records. You came by it honestly.

In 1986, my partner and I produced a concert on Dwight Yoakum at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. Rose Maddox was in attendance and I offered to take her backstage to introduce her to Dwight. Rose was all for it. If you could have seen the look on Dwight's face when I said, let me introduce you to Rose Maddox. Dwight knew exactly who Rose was and kept her in the dressing room talking about her days in Bakersfield. A few years later, I met Rose again backstage at the Grand Ol' Opry and we reminisced about her first time meeting Dwight. Incidentally, we had a full house and turned it two times. I believe "I'm A Honky Tonk Man." was in the number 3 spot on Billboard that week.

Deke Dickerson, I really enjoy all that you do. Be it Rock A Billy music, or old guitars, During the early 80's I used to sit in and play bass guitar with a fine picker and singer named, Buddy Kendricks. I had heard that he had run with the Bakersfield crowd at one time. I am wondering if you have run into any information about Buddy?

Aha. The original unbeknownst Cutta Cake. I still play your version from the No1 hit record el pea. One thing. Never take alcohol cleaners to an acetate, will wipe off the grooves, Some say mild detergent and lukewarm water. Some say Don't do nuthin- let them be. Greetings from Scotland....

Deke, I love your books and videos! I'm curious though, in the opening segment there is a record sleeve that mentions 154th Street, Gardena California. I grew up just off 144th Street in Gardena and would like more information about this record and/or record store. Thanks!

I love your new channel and find your information very interesting.I think it's really neat that you are using a Thorens TD124 with a Rec-o-kut tone arm. Those are really neat machines. It's great to see you out there on the Web. I sure miss working with you at the restaurant. Your shows were always top-notch. Best wishes, Dave

As a record clerk, I once went to an outbuy from a deceased instructor at a religious collage in Orinda, California. It was one of those inland places that gets real hot in the summer. He had been allowed to keep his collection in an unused classroom. At least 10,000 records. They were all stored sideways like the ones in the video, and every record we looked at was warped from that kind of storage in that hot, unventilated room for decades. 10,000 unplayable records.
