That is a really good idea. I was also wondering if there😢 was any extension that could be added. Thank you for another fab video
I had vango pulsar200.
I bought the reactive outdoor 3 second tent. However, I think the tent you purchased is better. I have found it easier than my tent with poles, etc.
I have always used rok straps. I am the owner of a Triumph tiger sport 660, called Tigger. I have done quite a few camping trips. Bunnies also scratch your bike. I use velcro straps round my room straps when I am not using them. In other words, when I am storing them. It is useful to have small ones I found. I am about to book a test ride on the Himalayan 450, hopefully for my holiday .
Thankyou for the very nice presentation in such a rainy weather.stay safe my friend!
Thank you for your kind comments. Yes it was a wet day. Ride safe also my friend. Cheers Mick
Hey mate, looking at doing a similar thing myself. Likely will use a trailer as makes the internal conversion a bit simpler with a fixed bed and will use the van for work. I’m looking either a transit L2H3 or L3H3. only thing to watch out for with them is wet belt system. But I guess any van would work, mwb crafter, relay etc. just depends on if it’s your only vehicle and parking in your area etc. good luck with the build. Sorry to bring bad news but from what I’ve seen you’ll have a hard time finding a euro 6 van that’s done 120k or less for £5/6k, vans have gone up a lot in value it seems and if you want something that’s not knocked about you might have to add a few quid. I’ve been looking for something around 70k miles or so and euro 6 (live next to CAZ zone) and it’s looking more like £11-15k 😢😅
Hi mate. Thanks for your comments and advice. Yes your absolutely right about the budget, that's needs to be increased to around £7/8k if I'm going to find a decant van. Think I may of found a late 67 plate ford custom L2 H1 with 101k on the clock Ford replaced the engine at 85k under warranty due to the wet belt failure. Watch this space. Cheers Mick
Loctite on the bolts, they're poor quality aluminium. If you don't want to lose it... Just for security. 😇
Yes your absolutely right. I did take the screws back out and lock tight them. I didn't want that thing working loose and flying off down the motorway. Cheers Mick
Great stuff, always interesting to see places you know well through the eyes of others, few things in life better than a bike trip with old mates! Cheers.
@@antonoat thanks for your comments. It is nice to see places through other people eyes. And any excuse to get out on the bikes with great mates. Cheers Mick.
These look really good, fed up with bungees, old hat and potentially very dangerous! Enjoying your videos, thanks for sharing with us, cheers.
@@antonoat many thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers Mick.
I use bungees , as you know. I have been hit in my face, and it hurts .They can be dangerous though. After watching your vid it's time I changed Mick. Thank you for posting this vid
@@taffy2wheels577 cheers Taffy. My bungees are now in the bin.. 😂 thanks for all your support pal.
Mick , getting a van and kitting is a great idea . It makes sense.
@@taffy2wheels577 thanks Taffy. It’s going to be an exciting journey. And room for a couple of mates going to the trails. 👍
I am surprised people still use old type bungees. I changed to Ron Straps after a stray bungee hook smashed my glasses. Could have been much worse. I have acquired a mix of thin and thick Rok Straps, the thinner used on bicycles and for smaller bags on a motorcycle. They may seem expensive but work really well and last over a decade without any stretching. Spare ones also store easily in a small ziplock bag under the saddle for emergency carry.
Thanks for your comments. Yes I wish I would of found these sooner, they are a game changer. The bungies are in the bin. Cheers Mick
Thanks for the great video... I have done pretty much the same mods but did them all on the same week that I got the bike. I've been riding off road for a fair while and have had a CRF250l for just over a year so knew exactly what I needed. I agree with your ethos, get what suits you. Many people out there spending £1k + on suspension, but for the riding I do, YSS fits perfectly and at a good Price. Keep up the good work with the vids 👍
Thanks for your comments. I totally agree with you, get the upgrades that suits you. Im pretty much sorted with the bike now apart from some heated grips. Gets very cold in winter in the North West. Cheers Mick
Brilliant video, well done! We need more of this stuff on You Tube - Normal folk reviewing the budget options with easy to follow and understand how to. Do you have a link for those foot pegs please?

Great video, gave ya a sub. Dont forget There are a few different sizes as far as width and length. For those that dont know. I use a thinner, smaller ones as a second piece of mind, w the traditional buckel type strat as these can also work loose at the buckel/clips.
@@EastTexasADV thanks for the sub and the advice. I will definitely be investing in some more of these in different sizes. Cheers Mick.
P.s. I’ve just subscribed to your channel also. Great channel . Cheers Mick.
Thanks for the advice - have ordered that sidestand enlarger - should be fitted for the Royal Enfield rideout on 22nd sept
@@daveh1625 your welcome. It’s a nice bit of kit, and looks great on the bike too. Cheers Mick
Is the bike the tubeless version?
No it’s the tubed wheels. I would have preferred the tubeless, but there was a long waiting list. Cheers Mick.
@mikelyon01 thanks for reply. Enjoying the vids, thanks!
Thats what I use..work really well👍
I’m very impressed with them. Cheers Mick.
With respect to tyres, I've just ordered a set of Anlas Capra X 50/50 tyres. A friend has been running them on his Tuareg and rates them, so I figured I'd give them a try. The Ceats are fine on the road but on the trails just won't cut it in the mud.
Many thanks for sharing I’ve never tried these tyres before, but will definitely give them a look. Cheers Mick.
agree on bungee cords they are a mess to deal with when tangled up and quite dangerous with those hooks. I have myself moved to straps and they just work beautifully with luggage bags.
Thanks for adding your comments. They are a game changer. Now wouldn’t be without them. Cheers Mick.

Hello, I find these tires to be the best street-legal option; however, there are some discussions about the tire size. Some people have mentioned that the Trackers 110/100/18 size is closer to 140mm in width. I would like to purchase Michelin Trackers for my Surron Ultra Bee, but anything close to 140mm is just too wide. Could you please measure the width from knob to knob at the widest points? You would help me a lot.
Hi. Thanks for your comments. The rear wheel is 140 mm wide max and the front is 100 mm wide max Hope this helps
@@mikelyon01 So it seems that Michelin tires has some really weird measurements, when the 110 and 140 are the same width. I found pictures of 140s and they were exactly between 136-140mm wide. Thanks for your reply!
Thought my 500 Hornet was good at 70 mpg…90 is amazing👍
Id be happy with 70mpg but over the moon with 90mpg.. Cheers Mick
Thank you for your reply to my previous comment. I have just watched your recent video, and thank you for helping me to make my mind up. I am only 5:8ft tall, but I have a 33 inside leg. I can flat foot my Tigger (Triumph Tiger sport 660) . The only problem I have with Tigger is that he has no centre stand. I would like to travel abroad, and I think a bike like the Himalayan 450 ticks all the boxes, and like you say, it's versatile. Enjoy your bike, and I look forward to watching the updates and adventures you have in mind.
Hi Susan. You are very welcome. The Himalayan would be pert for what you are looking for. The seat is very narrow towards the front making it easy to touch the ground. 5ft8 and 3: inside leg would be perfect on the normal setting. The centre stand is a gem to have. Enjoy your new bike. Cheers Mick.
Looks really good that, I have one coming today, same as yours but the pro, don’t think there’s a difference in them apart from mounting options, your video was two months ago, how do you rate it now bud?
Thanks for your comments. I’m really enjoying it. It’s one of those things that once you’ve had one it’s would be hard to ride without one. Cheers Mick.
@@mikelyon01 Fitted mine yesterday Mick, it's definitely a keeper, it's on my Tiger 900 Rally Pro, no more broken phones, thanks for doing the review bud, all the best mate 🤟🏻
@@mototripperuk Yes defiantly no more broken phones lol. Thanks for your comments, and all the best Buddy
Nice and convenient solution for better seating 👍🏼
Yes it’s a real good option for the bike. And looks cool too.
I enjoyed your review, I get the impression that you are tall. It sounded like a really honest review. I have been considering purchasing the black and gold one. I currently have a Triumph Tiger sport 660. Which I intend to keep. However, the Himalayan 450 has a centre stand.
Thank you for your comments. Yes I’m 6ft 2 and the bike fits me perfectly. I did own the triumph tiger 800 XC a few years ago. This bike foils much lighter and confidence inspiring. The black and gold is a real looker Cheers Mick
Great video Mick. Love the bike and glad you like it . Fantastic mate. Was a great day out . Loved the train bit. With Casey Jones..ha ha
Glad you enjoyed it mate. Yeah your really had me with the Casey Jones 😂. Great day out mate.
Have you noticed the rattle at 5k revs?
To be fair, not really. I know a lot of people mention this but it’s not a major rattle on my bike. Cheers Mick.
@@mikelyon01 no worries thanks for the response. It’s pretty bad I’m mine, makes me want to sell it. Might see if it can be repaired under warranty?
@@michaelgibbons8339 I've seen videos on you tube that remove the charcoal canister and the valve connected to this and is solved the problem. But defiantly take it into Honda under warranty, as it shouldn't be that bad. Good luck with it, Mick
Hey man, do you think it could be a good beginner bike? I don’t really plan to go off road with it to be honest. I mainly want it for its reliability and its price.
@@almog3875 yes mate. This is a very friendly and easy first bike. I would definitely recommend it for a beginner. Cheers Mick
@@mikelyon01 Thank you for the quick reply. That’s good to know! Highly appreciated, thanks.
Test riders in the states are not getting anywhere near that mileage. 50-55 MPGallon's here. The 411 is around 65-68 MPG 🤔🤔🤔
Thanks for your comments. Very interesting to hear that. Maybe its the climate, sea level or fuel grades. My good friends in the UK are getting similar results to mine on their 450's Check out Nathan Millward.. aka nathanthepostman review on the 450. He is a very well known in the biking community. Cheers Mick
UK gallon=1.2 US gallon could be part of it...
Any bike needs to be sufficiently heavy to enable it to steady in poor weather conditions and not get blown around by the wind or by buffeting from a vehicle slipstream say when overtaking a bigrig truck and trailer. I recommend you fit engine guards and a pair of driving / fog lights as well
Thanks for your comments. I'm totally in agreement with you on the weight. and thank you for your recommendations for engine guards and fog lights. Cheers Mick
I've had mine for about three months. Its brilliant in every way. Good review.
Thanks John, and good to hear your enjoying your 450 also. Cheers Mick
Enjoyed your video. I am an owner and over 2,000 miles so far and don’t have any seat vibration issues. Over 6,000 rpm the engine is unbelievably smooth and a joy. The handling, comfort, acceleration and fuel economy are a perfect blend. I have had and have more powerful bikes but for a do it all, every day machine, affordable with a fun factor this is hard to beat. In black with the gold wheels it is a looker too. Look forward to you next trip.
Many thanks for your comments. The 450 truly is a fantastic do it all bike. Interesting to hear you don’t have any seat vibrations. Maybe I have my suspension set too firm. Hopefully the mesh seat cover will cure it. Cheers Mick
Very useful, mate. Many thanks... 👍
Glad it helped. Cheers Mick
Hi, nice video. Can I ask is it just one spring you changed in the front shock and how do you decide which front shock to change the spring.I dont own the bike yet but looking at changing out the front suspension like you have. I am around 105kg without kit so unsure if the 85-105kg set up you ran at the rear will be correct. Thanks and atb for the weekend.
Thanks for your comments. On the CRF300 there is only one spring in the forks. The other fork is just oil. The spring side is the right hand leg as you sit on the bike. The 115 kg on the front and 105 on three rear works very well for me. I’m 100kg but if you are carrying luggage etc then go for a heavy weight spring. Cheers Mick
Just wondering Mick, and not wanting to start the Premium v Supermarket fuel debate what are you running on? 1st couple tanks i put in pre service were Supermarket & I too got 90+mpg. Since service Im trying Premium to see if there is a difference. Only trying it as i read in the owners handbook to use Premium if possible
Hi Andy. I’m using supermarket e10 fuel, and putting in premium e5 every third tank full. I’m not sure if this helps of makes much of a difference, just covering all basis. Cheers Mick.
There isn’t a bad bike on the market today. Some are inspiring, others blah.
I totally agree. There isn’t a bade bike out there at the moment. And as long as manufacturers keep improving and pricing is kept competitive, then we all benefit. Thanks for your comments
@@mikelyon01 👍🏽
I picked mine up today and put nearly 300km on it. Absolutely loved it. BUt as I was with pals with have bikes with way higher cc than my new 450. THey did say it will struggle if we tour or go motocamping once loaded with gear. Can you tell me if this is true or rubbush please. I love the bike so far but am now worried it will struggle once packed up with gear.
@@tommck2386 I wouldn’t worry mate, it will be a solid tourer, look at some of the RUclips videos with that biker Simon and his mates Nomadic Knights, over in the Himalayan mountains on a tour, this bike will get you anywhere
Don't worry about it mate. I loaded mine with full camping gear before I hit 300 miles, and it coped with no problem at all. The lad I was with was on a GS 850F & unless he tried to out power me I kept up no issues
My mates Said exactly the same. You don’t have to worry about this bike keeping up with anything. My mates have a Harley. 1800. A triumph tiger 800 and a Nikon 1000. And this keeps up really well with pack. And returning 90 mpg. The bike just gets better with miles Cheers Mick
I am waiting for my first service, booked when I took delivery 8th august but first space in workshop was the 20th sept; that 4000 rpm is 50mph and then it is more miles at 6000rpm to 1243 miles so with 220 miles covered so far I am glad to have a second bike. Would not wish to excede the 311 miles and have any warranty disclaimer! Not worth the gamble to go past the first service and although I have oils/filter and tools, torque wrench etc it is impossible to get past the RE schedules within warranty. Good to see an honest review and am very happy with my new Himalayan. Only 'issue' so far - mine is the Hanle Black tubeless and both wheels have long valve stems (will get them changed when new tyres are fitted) and the spokes obstruct both my battery pressure gauges, having to use the old back-up pencil type device to check pressure. If that is all I can find different in 3 weeks compared to my bmw R1200 I think this RE is a bargain. Showing 99.9 running in so that 90mpg is very achievable. RUNNING IN PERIOD The Royal Enfield motorcycle as you would be experiencing is capable of consistent high speeds. However as with any new motorcycle, a “RUNNING-IN PERIOD” procedure is essential to help in proper “Bedding-in” of the various mov- ing parts in your motorcycle and to achieve optimum per- formance like gear shifting subsequently. 1. Do not exceed maximum specified pay load. 2. Warm up the engine for a few minutes at idling speed to allow engine oil to lubricate all the moving parts in the engine before riding the motorcycle. 3. Avoid full throttle operation and do not ride at constant throttle continuously. Vary the speed by 10% while riding. 4. Ride at proper speed and avoid sudden accelerations and braking. 5. Avoid riding motorcycle continuously for over an hour, it is recommended to take brief stop. NOTE The below table indicates the recommended engine speed in rpm for optimum performance of the engine. Distance Covered Max. Engine Speed 0 to 500 km (0 to 311 miles) 4000 rpm 501 to 2000 km (311 to 1243 miles) 6000 rpm

Thanks for sharing your comments. These 450's are amazing and I just cant wait to get out on mine. Like you its a bike that just puts a smile on your face. Cheers Mick
I'm wondering if a lot of the vibrations are caused by not running the bike in properly. You see the journalists take out a brand new 450 and rag it!!
You are probably right. I saw the launch in India, and these bikes where abused from day one. Be wary of dealers selling 1000 mile demo bikes at discounted prices.. Cheers Mick
@@mikelyon01 You may be right. I too suffer very few vibes, just that 70mph and above, but nothing too terrible.
That happened to my local dealer - waiting for my ordered tubeless bike and took their demonstrator out, with a request to "keep this new engine under 4000 rpm" which I did, bike had less than the 300mile first service point. Mine was late pm and then a few days later we get the youtube test rider who had this same bike out that same morning showing what he could get out of the bike at max revs! I hope they never give him any other test rides ( I do know once the word got out the bike was serviced and oil changed early but very annoying for evryone else who took the bike for a test) who gets that bike after that will be interesting.
The vibes on this bike are minimal at best. Hardly noticeable unless your actually looking for them. Let's also not forget it's a 450 single. Mine is just approaching its 1000 mile mark. There were noticeable (to me anyway) changes at the 300 & 600mile mark. It's bloody lovely at the moment & I'm expecting it to get better as it really bed's in.
Hi. I commented about the 1200 mark when the bike seemed to come alive, glad you are experiencing that change too. I am now onto 2800 and I have to say, it just keeps getting better. One thing I didn’t know was the quick way to reset the trip. Toggle left to get trip on TFT then hold toggle left for a few seconds. Maybe you all know this already… 🙄
Many thanks again. I'm really impressed with the performance. I've heard if you de cat the exhaust and mod the airbox, there's another 10 BHP to be had. Also thanks for the trip tip, I didn't know about this. Cheers Mick
I've just fitted a Carpuride (same as your one) to my Tiger 800. Replaced the Tom Tom Go. I even used the same ball joint from the Tom Tom. Pretty much the same as the Tom Tom one is provided as well. Cheap (200 or so) , easy to fit. Links to my Phone and intercom. Full Aundroid Auto and all the benefits, and looks great.
Thanks for your comments. Its a great piece of kit and I wouldn't be without one. Cheers Mick
Lovely job. Do you mind me asking, what's the make of your tank bag?
It was purchased on eBay. The name says Givi but not sure if that's the genuine brand. here's the link. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126446024156?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Q1Ks8W_KRoK&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=zIZCxNVHQju&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It was great, you would think it was a 650cc . Also it does move quick too . Never missed a beat
it does move for a 450 single.
@mikelyon01 yeah ya telling me my HD struggles keep up sometimes ha ha . Or maybe it's just me 🤣
I'd like to explore the Carpuride but it seems unless you have a BMW there is no quick release?
Mine is released by a few turns of the ram mount and then disconnect the power lead . removed in seconds
A few turns and it pops off the ball joint. Very quick and easy. The thumb wheel is easy to turn. Then there is a weaher proof connector that pops off easily. Mines fitted to a Triumph Tiger 800
Nice bike I liked it too and I want to make the purchase but I am not fully decided yet because of two incidents of frame failure. Did you experience any problems with the stability and the construction quality of the frame ? Thank you for your time !!
I’ve not had any problems or issues with the 450 at all. It feels solid in all riding and conditions. However I’ve not yet took this bike off road. I wanted to get 1000 miles on her first (which I’m not far off). Hopefully next weekend will be the off road review. Thanks for your comments. Cheers Mick.
Those frame failures were due to the installation of unsupported crash guards.
Frame failure was a user error not machine 😅
