    A colleague once (in the 1990s) started telling the audience that he would deliver his speech in "bad English", the true universal language. People loved it. Today we have more refined expressions to define it, such as "lingua franca". Trying to improve my English as a third language has been an amazing experience as a much wider world has opened up to me. Please keep promoting this, it's an excellent way to deepen the integration of our very multifaceted and multicultural world. Rgds

    Isn't Lingua Franca defined as not being the native language of any of the people using it? Also, English in no way is the only international language. When speaking with say Poles I will use German, French, Esperanto or English - whatever works.When speaking with Germans or Austrians I will use German (or Dutch if they happen to speak it), because it's more efficient than English

    • @jesuisravi
      @jesuisravi 2 года назад

      actually at present time it is the only truly international language. Ask a Pole or a German or a Netherlander who travels widely what language they find not merely nice, but essential, to know.

    • @RadicalCaveman
      @RadicalCaveman 2 года назад

      A lingua franca is spoken by people with various native languages which may or may not include the lingua franca. English is certainly spoken much more widely all over the globe than any other language. However, there are, for example, large area of Africa where French is spoken, not to mention the huge reach of Mandarin.

    • @thato596
      @thato596 2 года назад

      german is not even an international language. esperanto is far worse

    • @astarformation
      @astarformation Год назад

      In fact, it's classified as a Lingua Franca because it's used between so many speakers of other languages, even though it is also used to communicate by native speakers. However, the English used as a Lingua Franca is slightly different to native-speaker English. You are lucky that you speak so many languages, but a lot of people only have the choice of English for communication.

    • @astarformation
      @astarformation Год назад

      @@RadicalCaveman You're right. It will be interesting to see if French becomes more widespread as a Lingua Franca as the African continent develops as a world power.
