Comment below and let me know how you like this compared to the more traditional method of cross stitching on to a single crochet panel!

    I do something similar to this only I crochet the basket to the height I want it then do 1 round of Back loop only stitches then continue crocheting until I get to like 2 or 3 rows less than twice the height then put the canvas in and fold down at the back loop row to the inside of the basket to cover the canvas that way nothing gets caught in the canvas when you put things inside the basket

    I have never used graph before. Do I understand correctly that basically to do row 2 I crochet left handed (left to right) or do do you rotare your work so essentially making the the top the bottom ?

      @@tracyhealy3689 I have a video on graph reading here, hopefully it's helpful ruclips.net/video/6L2g7MX91Cg/видео.htmlsi=dFAKKvzelEhaIr5I But basically you are working back and forth from the bottom of the graph to the top. Row 2 could be worked with your off hand if you are able to do that. I think most people turn the work and just make sure any carried colors stay on the wrong side of the piece. Hope this is helpful! ❤️

      I'm sorry Mary, I'm just now seeing your question. So technically each square can be any stitch, friends on what you're doing and maybe on the pattern your using. But in most cases I've seen, single crochet is normally used, one stitch per square.

    When you start the graph for SC and add the chains...do you add one extra for the turning chain? Do you also chain one every row?

    • @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825
      @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825 2 года назад

      Hey Joyce! So it depends on the pattern, for mine I will put in the notes section if the turning chain counts as a stitch, as do most designers I believe. As for the starting chain, usually the turning chain is accounted for in the pattern and the notes will clarify which ch to begin in. If you are creating your own thing, it's entirely preference on the turning chains. The easiest thing to do is to not count the turning ch as a stitch. Hope that helps!

      @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825 Год назад

      I'm so sorry, I'm just now seeing this comment 😬 It should work pretty well with any basket, you just may need to attach multiple panels, in which case I would overlap the panels by a few columns and stitch them together that way, as opposed to stitching them together end to end. This probably isn't helpful at this point, but I didn't want to not answer once I realized I'd missed the comment 😕

    • @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825
      @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825 3 года назад

      It certainly could be, I would just recommend making sure to trap (crochet around) the yarn you are carrying along the wrong side every few stitches so that you don't end up with any really long strands to be snagged when in use. Does that make sense?

  • @savannaf9180

    • @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825
      @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825 3 года назад

      You could definitely do a half double. I just used a single here for simplicity. You can use any of the basic stitches really, depending on the effect you want. Single is just generally the most commonly used in colorwork.

    Stephanie, I just wanted to say that where I've done counted cross stitching for several years of my life; that the way that you're doing it yes it is the easy way. But in order to do it the correct way you should have all of your stitches going in one direction then have them go back towards where you started in the opposite direction. By doing it this way it will fill in the project better and it will be a lot easier to work the thread or yarn. It will also look neater as well. Also, if you hold the thread or in this case yarn tail across the row that you're working on you won't have to weave it in at the end and it will be blended into the work. By doing what I suggested will make the stitching go so much faster for anyone who has never done cross stitching before. I just thought that I would give out some helpful advise for everyone. You can stitch through 2 holes at 1 time vs just doing 1 hole at a time. But make sure that you do this to form an " X " . So start with going in 1 direction like " \ " then come back down the row doing " / " . I hope this helps everyone. And btw Stephanie you did a fantastic job on this!

      I appreciate the feedback and the suggestions for others very much! When I said in the video I didn't normally stitch like this that's what I meant lol. I normally go all the way through a color section one way and then back. But I didn't consider that might throw someone off who is new to cross stitch. Perhaps I'll find a video to link people to for proper cross stitching technique... Thank you!

    I am so glad that I found your video tutorial. I have several written text patterns with arrows beside the numbered rows.i am right handed.do I just ignore the arrows and read the sentences like I would read a book?

    • @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825
      @classyladyyarnworks-subver4825 3 года назад

      So long as you are turning then yes it should just read like a book. The arrows should just indicate which direction you are moving as it relates to the graph. But the directions themselves should read like a book. If you want to be sure just check the counts against the actual graph if you can :) And I'm glad you found the video too and hope it was helpful!
