2018 VW Tiguan SEL - AUTO STICK for the win!
I rented a 2018 Volkswagon Tiguan SEL. Loved the car overall. The only two negatives I have to say as I review this car relate to the auto shut off and start when stopped, and the power shift ratio off the transmission when accelerating at lower speeds. Hope you enjoy my car snobbery on this video lol!

I wish I didn’t trust the owners manual about changing the trans oil at 150k miles. I got some shudder going on at 58k and believe it wouldn’t have happened if I changed it at 30k. ☹️

Mine shifts fine with the shifting stick, however, when in drive there's over revving and the transmission is not shifting properly through the gears in the transmission. I but the car in 2023, and the previous owners didn't tell us when the transmission fluid was changed. Could that be the main issue and not a Solenoid sensor having went out?

    • @jimbosdiyautorepair4825

It’s possible…I started with changing the fluid first to see if that would work. It didn’t so I did the solenoids. Fluid is about $50 give or take… and A LOT faster to change than doing the solenoids too.

    • @jimbosdiyautorepair4825

The other thing you could try before a full fluid change is double checking that the trans fluid is full. It could just be low, especially if you notice any small leaks around the pan seal or elsewhere on the tranny. Also, if you do change the fluid be sure to change the filter while you’re in there. A filter is cheap, even at Auto Zone / ORielly’s

My 2013 Ford Explorer 3.5L V6 started to have problems around 155,000 miles. Then a few months later the shudder was getting scary! It would happen around 3rd and 5th gear. Anyway, after reading every forum about this problem, someone said, add a 2 ounce bottle of Lubegard Instant Shudder Fixx. I was skeptical because after all it feels like a mechanical problem. I'm sure it is a mechanical problem. But, trying to save money and to delay the inevitable TC replacement, I added the 2 ounces of the fixx potion. I drove around a few miles and most of the shudder was gone and then saw much smoother/better shifting. In the end I believe that NOT changing out the transmission fluid every 30K will lead to these problems. The auto mfrs need to stop with the BS about "lifetime fluids". Lubricants breakdown and need periodic replacement to extend the life of the vehicle! My Explorer at 163, 000 miles now. The shudder is mostly non-existent at this time. Let's see how it is in the next few months!

Just completed this repair with help from this video. Solenoid A was burned, solenoid B seemed OK. Good thing as with 2 floor jacks and 2 jack stands and me trying everything with all motor mounts disconnected, I could only get the side cover to 3 1/2 inches or so gap, way less than yours and was barely able to get the top solenoid, A out. Was going to change both but didn't want to risk the big fat chance of losing a clip into the tranny somewhere or just changing the one solenoid A, that's what I did. Must be what being a dentist feels like. But it appears to run perfectly. Thx.

My G6 Manual says to only replace the trans fluid every 50,000 miles. I did my first change pretty late at 133,000. Car has been fine since then, i have had occasional hard shifts for years. But no codes. My pan gasket is bad now so I have to replace it. I have put less than 20,000 miles on the car in 4 years so im not too happy about changing the fluid again so soon. It has 150,500 now. Totally depends on your situation. If you time, tools and a good place to work it might be. Just depends on if you want to invest time and energy into it. If your timing chains are gone (which is likely) then pulling the engine and doing the whole project is the way to go. If you just do this then in my opinion your just slapping a band aid on it.

It happens to a lot of different makes/models after a lot of miles. Torque converters wear out over time especially when the fluid isn't changed regularly. Same happened to my Volvo XC90 V8 Sport. Transmission was fine, shifts great, no slipping. But had a bad shudder. Replaced torque converter & the shudder was gone for good. Now change fluid around every 30k miles. She's over 250k now & still doing great.

Hello I switched out the solenoids and codes are gone but the car goes forward in reverse and neutral. It still does go forward in drive. The fluid is topped off and I checked at the transmission and can see the shift linkage moving the transmission though gears. When it's in reverse the reverse lights do come on. I've replaced the transmission filter aswell. Before doing the shift solenoids the car worked properly just had the code. And when I replaced solenoids I replaced all 3 even though only my first one was bad. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to check, I'm assuming has to be a hydraulic issue but I've seen online this has happened to others after this procedure but no posted fixes or causes. Please help 🙏🏽

Whoa that’s weird! I have no idea! I’d say maybe you got your wires crossed when putting it back together, but reverse wasn’t part of that as far as I know…

@@jimbosdiyautorepair4825 I did pop the manual valve which is that little linkage everyone refers to but I placed it back on when I noticed since I saw many others had issues with it. Also as far as my solenoids I left the burnt end of my shift solenoid A attached to know that one goes to the very top and the other 2 were different colors so I know they went on right. I'm thinking I'm going to have to open everything back up again but I'm not sure what is the problem since I can't find anything else online. I also thought maybe that black switch where the shift linkage is at could be at fault but it's weird that the reverse lights do come on. Idk what to do since the few people on forums that had this issue never ended up posting the fixes :/

The only other thing I can think of is to check the nut on the top of the transmission that holds the shift linkage on. It can look like it’s shifting appropriately, but actually running loose. I had that problem so my car wouldn’t shift and to drive out of park. It would move, but not to the right spot. You might need to undo that nut and shift your transmission by hand to see if you can find reverse that way

@@jimbosdiyautorepair4825 sounds like a plan. Just to confirm though when you pulled off your linkage and that position switch that are held on by the nut, your car was in park correct?

Yup for sure. So you’ll want to be sure to block your wheels so it doesn’t roll away from you

Did your vehicle make a rattle sound before you changed the oil sensor like as if it was not dispersing oil to the lifters?

So i just had a similar sound start when coming to a stop off the highway. Its constant and timed with the engine rpms, coming from the drivers side front of the engine, would it be worth redoing the front only or should i just pull the motor and be done with it. 2001 sport trac, 4.0 sohc, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

      @shiznayne Месяц назад

@sherryhowell8697 mine ended up being the tensioners. 2 of them broke and the chain was tapping. I believe there's 3 chains. Not positive on that. I do know that the 4x4s have an extra vs 2x4.

Man, I felt like I was watching myself struggle to work on something, lol. Thanks for taking the time to film this replacement. What issue were you having to cause you to need to change it? My wife drives a 2011 Edge and we keep smelling raw gas in the garage. Ruled out the Valve purge filter as it seems fine. When I was trying to gain access to the solenoid, I could get wisps of the gas smell in that area I was working in, so that is probably the cause of my gas smells.

I was trying to fix a shudder thinking maybe the fuel/air system was messed up somewhere. This project didn’t fix my problem unfortunately. I was not smelling raw gas at all… makes me wonder if there’s something near the fuel rail / injectors. At one point I had an ‘08 Yukon and noticed significant wear on the fuel line and had to address that… so maybe also be sure to check the fuel line to be sure it’s not rubbing anywhere… just a thought

@@michaeldanielsG19 I also have a 2011 Ford Edge, and I'm getting a P0455 error code. Tried to replace the Purge Valve, but that didn't fix the issue. I can also smell gasoline somewhere near the driver's side door. The canister or the vent valve solenoid may have the issue. Did you replace the vent valve solenoid? If yes, did it fix the gasoline smell?
