I consider my playing a bit unorthodox, I had no official training or teachers when I started out.

Spending all your practice time trying to improve your traditional grip?

I agree with many of the points made here, but the sticks are not virtually indestructible. I often play on the rims for timbral contrast, & the Techra sticks chip, particularly the 5B sticks, whereas wooden sticks dent a bit, but do not chip like Techra sticks do.
Thanks for the feedback, it's important to remember all sticks have their limitations.
That's awesome dude, never heard anyone do it acoustic! Voice sounds good too
Thank you!
@freddycharles hey can you do jambi? From tool...I love tool and don't get to hear their music under a different light too much like acoustic
If you think he has a weak left hand, you should probably look at some of his other videos 😊
Agreed.
Hey there expert.....snare drums should be set kevel. Tilts are for WEAK LEFT HANDS..... level it up and practice
He’s doing traditional grip so the snare can be tilted
Tilts have no bearing on hand strength my friend.
Lol I have been drumming 30 years and haven't used this variation 😅😂 Using it now, love it.
Perfect!
Snare drums should be at about waist height ir a rad lower and LEVEL the angle suggests that mr. teacher here can't roll even without this crutch.
Still thumbs being used there in traditional. Nice exercise
Thanks 👍
Take that too the Grocery store and see what it gets you!!
The accents make it seem like groups of 4 and 6
What model are you using?
I use The Virgil Stick and a 5A carb with super grip
Cool!
Thank you!
Now play some music with people.
Set you up for what? 😂. Playing a practice pad for a living or snare with a mess head so look like you can play fast. ? Post a video if you making music with other people. I dare ya.
Cool, thanks. Good reminder. I've been playing with this for years but think I've been putting too much effort using fingers for the second and third note of triplet instead of milking the bounce.
Glad to help!
😂😂😂😂😂 sad
No wonder he plays a practice pad by himself most of the time.
Because you’re playing on a mesh head with extreme rebound. Now try this a real drum pal. Please show us on a snare drum.
Have you ever seen him play on a kit?I don't think you would be criticizing what he is trying to show you after you did.
@@BrianGodsell-yq1kc have you?

Really cool!!
Thank you
🤦♂️ he just plays the drum pad professionally! Where can you see him displaying this in a music setting?
I literally have no idea who this clown is. Find me a record that he plays on.
Hello Sir\ Mam, I Visited your RUclips channel and noticed it ranks lower than others. SEO is lacking, though your content is fantastic. Do you know why your videos aren't attracting more views? One key factor is insufficient SEO (your videos' SEO score is 38/100%, that's why your video is not reaching out to the people and you do not have many subscribers, views, likes, watch time, and comments. I can help you improve it 80-90% if you'd like. I think your RUclips channel will make your dream come true. I am waiting for your response.
Does this guy play with other musicians or does just make videos of himself playing fast on a practice pad? What artists does he work with? (Asking for Dave Weckl)
nice
Thanks
Drummers make this shiz look so easy, 4 limbs acting independently, meanwhile me just trying to sing and strum a guitar sat on my ass is like pushing an elephant up everest 😂
lol
For example if you play 46 and 2 in a major scale instead of phrygian it actually comes out country LOL
You know I played acoustic tool for about 20 years I'm curious how some of these songs could be turned into Blues music
Amazing as usual. Cheers Freddy
Thank you
With trad grip, your left hand looks like a hummingbird
Thanks
Freddy I totally agree with you why limit oneself best to know how to play all grips. I purchased your traditional grip course and been using it for several months and I see great improvement essentially playing doubles. Thanks for developing the course.
Thank you
Really nice man! Sounds sort of like the chili peppers californication era
Thank you
Great explanation.
Thanks
Sounds great 👍🏻 Are you playing guitar and singing on the track? I’m enjoying working on your traditional grip video course . Great instruction 👍🏻
Yes I am, thank you
Awesome song 👍🏻 Is this one of your originals?
Yes, it is! You can listen to it here: open.spotify.com/track/1unYd0WGtngVK7NJ58rW6s
I can't play push pull method with my 7A drum stick, please help me !
What seems to be the problem?
You sir are an amazing drummer 😊
Thank you
❤🎉
Your little clips and small bits of advice have helped alot, not easy to find drummers in the uk with solid advice, you guys from the usa are well ahead!
Thank you!
Thanks for posting your videos. I purchased your traditional grip video and I’m practicing your trad technique daily. Your videos are always inspiring.
Thank you.
Great man ❤ might help my left han
Thanks 👍
Well said and played, it's always good to go back to the basics
Thank you 👍
Any exercises or rudiments to build up hand independence?
play variations of groupings of 3 in one hand while playing groupings of 4 in the other
Thanks for the feedback, do you mind making a demonstration video ?
Do you teach via Zoom by chance?
Yes, I'm happy to do a zoom lesson. You can contact me at fc@freddycharlesmusic.com
How do you manage going back to 5a's on the kit after using these? Im practicing with marching sticks currently which are making 5as feel like tooth picks
That's the whole point of practicing with the heavy sticks. I move easily back to 5a's because the heavy sticks train certain muscles and the thinner sticks such as 5a's train other muscles. So using them both, you cover the whole spectrum of all the muscles in the hand and fingers.
Whats your opinion on aluminium/brass sticks for added weight, especially for people who are starting with trad grip?
Absolutely love metal sticks. If you could get your hands on a pair of power wrist builders, they come in all different weights. They're amazing for building up traditional grip.
When practising rudiments, do you practice the freestroke on every accent that allows it? I see some people playing freestrokes for every stroke sometimes in developing chops etc
The freestroke should be happening automatically. The exaggerated stuff you may be seeing is probably push pull.
@@freddycharles So practice separately then it will naturally flow into your playing, thanks mate!
Nice view bud
Thanks 👍
You should have lightened the cigar though to underscore the effortlessness of the whole thing. All jokes aside, I´ll definitely check out your stuff. I agree with you on the vibe of traditional, thats the main reason I want to learn it
LMAO
Great warm up, nice example also for my Students, thanks for sharing !!
Thank you!
Never seen anyone play like jojo, does seem like traditional can unlock next level techniques and take the Moeller to another level
jojo is one of the greats and by using traditional grip his pull-out accents are second to none
