Hi, this unit came from AliExpress. You can just do a search "Honda Odyssey RB1 Head unit" and you will get quite a few options. Most based on the same system. I have installed a few now and they have got considerably better since I first installed this one. I have just updated my vehicle to an RB3 and it looks very similar so it looks like I will be purchasing another. Go for as much memory as you can afford as it makes a difference when it comes to performance.

Hi. Honda Keys are a bit of a mystery to me but here is what I understand about them for the Honda. I also only received the one key when I bought my RB1 but it was just a key with a transponder (No fob or buttons) so relatively easy to replace. With the transponder keys, they still need to be cut and programmed. Getting it programmed is what costs the money. If you want to know if your key has a transponder in it, wrap it in a few layers of tin foil and then try to start your car. If it doesnt start it will definitely have a transponder and will need programmed. A locksmith will probably be cheaper than a dealer.

Still going strong. Did notice one thing recently which I think applies to most of these head units, is that you cant use a large USB stick in them. Most of my music is on 8GB and 16GB sticks which shows you how long ago I put music on them. I was using a 32GB stick which was playing OK but noticed that on random it was selecting from a smaller range of albums and wouldn't play some at all. You could select the album manually and play it if you wanted. Changed back to a smaller memory stick and there was no issues. My first head unit I ever bought said it had an 8GB memory stick limit and the one in my Honda had a 16GB memory stick limit. Something to be aware of. I know some of the name brands also have this problem though. But apart from that still going well, and I added Steering wheel controls which has improved things quite a bit. I did a video but haven't got around to posting it.

Hi. Sorry a bit busy at the moment so been having trouble catching up on messages. Haven't had to swap out Odyssey speakers but have certainly done quite a few other cars. I've never had a blown speaker as such but had lots damaged by leaking doors or ripped speaker cones. If all your speakers have failed at the same time I would suspect your amp under the left hand side front seat. Check for dampness under the seat. You will also be able to get access to the plug which is wired to all the speakers and then meter out with an ohm meter each one of the speakers to see if they really are blown.

Hi Adrian. An interesting question. In New Zealand there is no point retaining the CD DVD portion as we are in a different licensing zone from Japan so DVDS wont play at all and only about half of your CDs play. (Probably dodgy pirated ones) So the unit is just a boat anchor here. I have had a look at all the plug descriptions for the old unit but cant find a video out or S video. It appears to use composite Video which is no good for what you want to do. So unfortunately the old unit is a boat anchor for you as well now. Probably time to start transferring all your Videos and music to Memory sticks.

Hi Samuel. It is a bit tricky but most of those options will actually require you buying even more stuff to go with the Head unit and over complicate it. I might consider the CD option but once you load all your music onto a Memory stick you wont really need the CD option, which was one of the main reasons I changed. The DVR and Cam options might be useful to give you 360 degree views around your van but require you purchasing the cameras as extras and then installing them. I would decide based on how competent you feel you are to install them. The only other camera I would like in my van over and above the reversing camera is one viewing my front passenger wheel so I can stop smacking the curb 🙂 The DVR Video recording out your front window should be an easy install though and is very popular these days.. Probably worth considering. I wouldn't buy anything that plugs into your OBD2 or uses it for data info. I've heard a couple of horror stories of units permanently plugged into that port that ended up causing all sorts of unrelated issues on vehicles. Hope that helps.

@@garyrussell5559 Thanks for this mate - to be honest I think I've got a bit confused about the versions - I was just looking for the radio unit not any extras - is the '0' option just standard? CAM version gives you the option to add a reverse camera? And DVR the option to add a video recorder out the front window? Sorry to sound a bit dumb haha! Quite competent to install whatever hurdle I get - just codings sometimes throw me off haha! Cheers :)

@@samuelwheelhouse6807 As far as I can tell the 0 option just means it doesn't come with a reversing camera. You may not need one as you may already have one which you can adapt to fit as the unit is reversing Cam capable. The DVR option is the front viewing camera that you install inside your front windscreen. Handy for accidents to prove who is in the wrong or your last minute alive. 🙂 This will use one of your USB ports and I think will need a memory card which it just records continuously by wiping over the oldest recording. It also beeps when you get too close to a car in front or if it thinks you are leaving your lane. My wife's car has one which drives me nuts as it beeps when trying to park or pulling up to your garage door. First thing I turn off when driving around town as it beeps at every set of lights if there is a car in front

Hi Andy. sorry to hear you are having problems. My version is 2GB Ram 32GB Rom. I haven't struck the problem with the maps minimising. To be fair I haven't really had any issues with mine at all (that I haven't caused myself). There is a reset hole on the head unit if it does get into a mess with the operating system. Use a paper clip to fit inside the hole. Top right hand side labelled RST. I have used this once when trying different music players. I had installed so many I seemed to upset the operating system. ( I settled on Jet Audio). The unit does have some peculiar quirks which you get used to after a while. Make sure you have the correct screen size set or some of the drag down options wont work as the options you want end up out of frame. My eye sight is not great so I like to enlarge the screen but this really doesn't work very well. Pushing the Navigation button on the left hand side should bring the map back to the top at any time, no matter whats running. And yes the 1G version probably is a bit laggy. I have found that on other head units and other models. They do work once running but tend to have a longer boot up time and can be a pain.

@@garyrussell5559 Yes, I realised after I'd ordered that I needed 2GB so I've re-ordered and a new unit is on the way. I didn't seem to have the bracket issue that you had with your install. Maybe they've took note of your struggles and changed them! 😁👍

I went with 4GB 32GB. It seems to work ok with that. Android Auto connects wirelessly over a 5ghz connection with my Pixel 6. I had one issue that seems to be common and that's a poor microphone. I installed an external one and desoldered and removed the internal one. It seems to have made a difference but I probably need to invest in a better quality external mic. Happy with what I've got now for the moment 🙂

Hi Nooroa13. Sorry to hear you are having issues. First up.... Is any thing working at all? i.e. does the head unit boot up or any lights showing or is the screen completely blank? If nothing is working you will need to get out your multimeter and start doing some testing. The first thing I would check is if there is 12 volts on the plug that connects into the head unit. That is pin 9 of the black plug and will always be on regardless of the key position. By memory I think there is a fuse also located under that plug on the back of the head unit that's worth checking if you haven't already. You can disconnect the plug from the head unit for easy access with your test meter. Next check you get 12 volts on the ACC line of the same plug (Pin 2) when you turn the key on. Next, check the grounding of your head unit which is pin 1 of the same plug. It should be connected to the frame of the car. Needs to be a really good connection. This is often a cause of many intermittent faults. I cant tell you the number of times I have found that that there has been no ground connected at all. The head units will often still work as they can get a dodgy ground from somewhere else, often from the radio antenna. Let me know how you get on and then I will make another few suggestions.

Yeah I was following that , but on the head unit it only has rca coming out , so I don’t know where the negative -ve connects , I wired the +ve to the rca and it works , but when I start the car there is a loud buzzing

. @Simsgarage Right, I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but with regard to the negative -ve , that is actually your ground connection. The battery in your car has 2 terminals. One being the positive which is used to run most equipment and the negative terminal which will have a large grounding lead attached to the body of the car. So when you want access to the -ve you just wire directly to the frame of the car. The hondas have a lovely big grounding bolt beside the old nav unit. It looks like star connector with lots of black wires coming off it. Dont try to use any ground through the RCAs. As you found out this will work but eventually it does get to ground but you will have a lot of stray power going where its not supposed to. Hence the buzzing.

Hi, yes I ordered direct from Aliexpress. The fit was not perfect but good enough. As per the video the steering wheel control plug did not match and it took a little detective work to discover the wiring, but that's definitely part of the enjoyment working it out. I very rarely find a head unit that fits without some work. If the electrical works the head unit usually doesn't fit. If the head unit fits the electronics are all wrong. 🙂 The one in the video has been running without any issue. You could go for a smaller screen.

Hi Ashleigh. Typed a reply to you a couple of hours ago and just realised I didn't push send. Now to remember what I typed...... There are 2 plugs on the Amp. One goes to the speakers and one goes back to the Nav unit. You can definitely leave out the amp if you want and connect directly to the speakers. The wires are not very heavy duty so you may want to replace them if going for a bigger Amp. Otherwise they are fine. You will see some circuit diagrams posted on Pintrest that show what pins the speakers wires are on. Front Left Pin 8 and 18 Front Right Pin 7 and 17 Rear Left Pin 6 and 16 Rear Right Pin 5 and 15 You should find they are Directly opposite each other in the plug. If you put a meter across the pins set to resistance you should find a resistance value about 4 to 8 Ohms. If unsure I can tell you how to trace them with your mobile phone and a headphone connection.

Hi Ancil. The reversing camera is pretty straight forward. The after market cameras all need to be powered seperately by accessing the reversing light circuit. This is better being done at the rear of the car close to the reversing lights. Some cars do have access to this line at the head unit. Without a circuit diagram I am unsure if the Toyota does this at the head unit. Accessing the reversing lights is a far better method particularly if you have purchased a camera with led lights, as these will run all the time if you connect permanent power to the camera. Not to mention that its also illegal in a lot of countries to have a white light at the rear of your car running all the time. The video shows you how to access those reversing lights for powering the camera. You then need to run the long thin cable with the RCA that came with your camera to your head unit. Your head unit should have a RCA cable marked reversing camera or Back. The head unit will detect a signal on this line and switch to your camera when you put it in reverse. Finding the wires for the steering wheel controls was a little bit of trial and error without the circuit diagram. You will need a ohm meter to measure resistance to find where those steering wheel buttons are terminated. Unfortunately I am away from home for the next week and a half doing a bathroom installation so cant run out to the car to check on the exact wires for you. What part are you up to in your installation?

Hi Blake. I would love to help you out but the reality with this head unit is you are still going to need to be a bit handy as even with a harness you are still going to need to cut wires and reconnect them. If you have a friend or neighbour who is handy I will be happy to help out. Sorry for being slow getting back to you. My internet is almost non existant at the moment. Just ordered a Starlink connection to see if I can get up and running again.
