@abstolon SCA fighting is not intended to simulate ral armored combat. It is a recreation of high middle ages tournament fighting with rules like a sport. The techniques used by fighters in the SCA are fairly specific to SCA fighting only. Some would be very usefull in real combat and many are not. There are a TON of great videos and examples of high level SCA fighting to be found on youtube. Nothing is quite like trying it in person but you could get a general feel for it.

@abstolon I think there is some confusion here. Firstly I dont think you properply understand what it is that we do in the SCA. Perhaps the goals of an SCA fighter are not the same as yours. Secondly I am not trying to have a debate about the merits of SCA style armored combat. I was simply attempting to answer your questions. Thirdly, not all fights displayed on a random youtube channel are the pinnacle to SCA fighting. Combat is more than a matter of weapon matchups.

@abstolon 5 - your combat vs the combat shown in the video - I'm glad you have a combat game you enjoy. however I suggest you try a game first before you pass a final judgment on its merit. I'm sure there is a place near you where you can try our game. That is if you want to see what it is all about and have abetter understanding of how it is played. Try sca (dot) org for starters and see how you like it.

@abstolon 3 - weapon weight? - Every weapon is different. Some are a pound or less and some are several pounds. They are constructed from rattan mostly for safety. Rattan is rigid and has soem weight but will nto shatter when it wears out. 4 - Why wear armour for stick fighting? - this is for safety. Also the strikes are at times quite hard and can easily bruis or even break bones. The video does not properly convey the power of the strikes to the untrained eye.

@abstolon 1 - why stoping after 1 or 2 blows? - Sometimes the fight is over that fast or sometimes the fighter wants try try a different technique. We are only going to the point of striking a lethal location. not to the point of submission. 2 - Fantasy armors/clothes? - Generally what is worn is an attempt at real historical items. the rules of our game sometimes does not lend well to perfect standards. Also not everyone can afford or desire a high level of historical accuracy
