Hacking an Ikea Strandmon Footstool into a Modern Storage Ottoman | DIY No-Sew reupholster
I don't have a sewing machine (and I can't sew!). In this video I built a storage ottoman by hacking an Ikea Strandmon footstool, along with a no-sew rupholster to create a more modern looking piece!

Beautiful!! 😍😍😍 Love the design. One question though, did you seal the vinyl in anyway? I'm thinking of doing something similar but I'm worried about the water from the shower as well as dirt getting trapped in the edges.
Hi 🤗 and thank you for your lovley comment. 4 months down the line and the vinyl is holding up great, we use a shower spray after each use to keep the tile clean too. The heat from the shower has no effect on the vinyl. Maybe I could do an update video after 6 months. Good luck with your project!

Wow! Am super impressed that you were working on a REAL budge here! Thank you for telling us about the Johnstone's Any Surface Primer. I had never heard of it, and it's gone straight on my shopping list! One tip, to get rid of 'stickies' without scratching, mix up, in the palm of your hand, some bicarbonate of soda, a dash of cooking oil and a good squirt of washing up liquid. Rub it on the stickers, sellotape trail, or whatever gummy stuff has been on your item. It usually removes the gloop first time, without staining and without leaving grease marks. Not my recipe - was from Melissa 'The Happier Homemaker'. I've been using this for years and it's not let me down yet!

Thank you. I did a month long test beforehand, with removable and permanent vinyl, both stuck well, only difference was the permenent left a sticky residue when it was removed!
