Time to harvest the wheat

Its that time of year. This is my first year harvesting and threshing wheat. Not enough money for a combine, not enough crop to warrant buying one. So I'm gonna have to do by way of a hedge trimmer. The wheat will be stored in my temporary grainery until its dry enough to thresh.

    Green and Red my 2 favorite colors. 🤩🤩 I try to not criticize anyone working. But I will say I think that tractor/baler could go like twice as fast. That baler is made for high capacity/volume type of bailing. But like I started. Luv that Green and Red equipment .

    No need to dig out the left over seed or fert out with your hands. Go get your trusty ol shop vac. Dump it out and just suck the seed and fert out.

      Good idea. I will have to get another shop vac though. I use mine for work, vacuuming out furnaces that get stopped up.

    Buy a roll of 6x6x10x10 roll mesh for concrete. It's 5' tall and you will get about 35 15" cages for about $100. About $2.85 for a cage that will last a lifetime.

    As you can tell, I watch your videos. I have a corn shelled similar to yours, mine is a John Deere. I use a fan when shelling. I direct it towards the falling grain. It will blow the lighter chaff away.

      When I'm shelling for corn meal and grits I use a fan as well. But for shelling for planting I didnt.

    May try tying a log behind the disc. It will help level and bust clods. It works better for me going through Center of log than tying around the log.

      Dad used to have flat sled something on the back, but the hydraulics got weak on the Massey Ferguson 65 we use the disc with. So we removed it. He likes to use the cub to smooth it down

    For a row marker on my cub, I use two pieces of conduit. I drill a hole in one end of each. I then run a heavy cord through each one of the holes, with a weight on the bottom end of the cord . I run one end of each conduit inside the front axle on opposite sides and clamp it at the proper distance, to allow the weight to drag over the top of last planted row.

    • @mcafarms
      @mcafarms 5 месяцев назад

      We have PVC and some old rachet straps for the markers. But I didn't have time to get it all set.

    I don't understand. After winter - and many american farmers work like that- you start tilling, then they lay it finer with the bad winter seeds in it which are so strong they could survive frost and heavy moisture. Then they start furtilizing the bad seeds and then they start planting. This ain't logic. Start plowing under your bad seeds, they will act in the underground as a green furtilizer. When plowed up start tilling startt planting and give them plants furtilizer. You are wasting labour and furtilizer.

    Is our growing season long enough for some succession planting? As some go in the ground, start new ones in the greenhouse?

    • @mcafarms
      @mcafarms 6 месяцев назад

      Yes but the new seeds should be started before the first plants go into the ground. Starting seeds every 3-4 weeks. But plan accordingly, in NC the lastest would be early June to plant them so they make are harvest before fall frost. Hope this helps.
