What was the problem with it?

My fricken boy! Similar situation with customer, same laptop. Never encountered this on Dell, MSI, Surface series devices, Lenovo, etc. Strangely enough, the HP's BIOS saw the drive, but stopped seeing it during the Windows setup and stopped seeing it again when I ran DISKPART. Thank you again for this Shawn, good lookin out man.

Oh my man... You are wrong but yes, you can fix it that way too. However, the correct way is to go into BIOS before installing anything and ENABLE the NVMe/m.2!!!Now that's a bit tricky. It is not a straight forward thing you can tik and enable... I am not going to go thru the BIOS menues. Is beyond the scope of my comment. I only want to point out that: There is a more permanent way of fixing this WITHOUT having to download anything 👍

Great advice thank you. Works a charm. Yet another of the long line of HP disasters to add to issues such as their printers requiring you be connected to the internet for them to work. There are not too many HP items I can recommend as a computer business anymore. Having to install drivers to identify hard drives is almost nostalgic in that it reminds me of the kind of tasks I had to do 25 years ago. Interesting that HP has decided to take such a huge backward step from what was a situation where you just plugged the drive in and it worked; ridiculous.

I've just had a similar problem with a new NVMe drive that wasn't "seen" when trying to install a fresh download of Windows. I did download the drivers for the RST storage in case this was causing the problem but I actually fixed it by first changing the SATA/NVMe operation in the BIOS from RAID to ACHI/NVMe and then plugging the USB thumb drive in a USB 2.0 socket and not the newer 3.1 - I guess either one or both of those did the trick.

Starter probably shorting it out. I had same issue, kept burning thru batteries. Was a crappy shorted out starter drawing all the juice. Lmk

Where can you buy a replacement battery?

I had the same exact thing happen with the CD Rom drive in (not external) my HP envy notebook 17 touchscreen laptop. Tried all the troubleshooting with HP Support. It went to extremes including remote help and clean install windows 10 again. Nothing. They said that I should try to replace the cd rom drive. The kicker is, they already had discontinued the exact cd rom replacement I needed. I was infuriated as I used the burning features. It was the most advanced cd rom anyone could have. I still am infuriated as it's not even recognized in the registry or anywhere in the pc. It's as if it never came with the notebook in the first place.

If you like feedback, I have some for you, first tell us how it broke first, and give a before shot, the walk us through repairing it in a time lapse and then do a finished shot. Keep up the good work!
