Hey man, great video! Great to see Eternal Knight getting more coverage! I played through it all the way to the boss and did some videos on it on my channel lol. My early game was sooo much like yours. Magic and Bows, lots of praying and kneel and feeling like melee is a bit weak. Profane Games gave some great tips similar to the ones they gave you, and even after I beat the boss I was still getting small things wrong 🤣. Trial and error and hindsight helped me figure out a lot, which is just how a Souls-Like should be lol. Also, if you haven't found it yet, there is a setting that you can turn on so items from things you break with attacks or rolls are automatically picked up. Small thing but saves a lot of time in the end.
Thanks for the comment dude! I didn't know that option was there. I'll definitely have to check it out. I actually noticed the demo got an update when I was on steam last night. I may check out what may have changed at a later date. And I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who struggled too lol. 😄
@@Morghoulus Definitely check it out. And yeah, the start is a bit of a struggle lol, but get some levels in intelligence and vitality, get some more rings and gear stat boosts and you will feel so much stronger!
@@zzyzxgaming24601 Will do. Especially since I now have a general idea on how the game works
Thanks so much for playing Eternal Knight, your time and feedback is greatly appreciated. There is a lot of work and polish left to be done before this game will be considered the final product. That said, a lot of the combat mechanics and balancing are intentional but will likely be adjusted over the course of completion of the game. A common theme to user feedback has been that the weaponless Ruined Corpse killing you with one hit compared to the dagger wielding Ruined Guard feels unrealistic. Given user feedback this may change, but just know that part of the depth of this game is the nuances, for example the Ruined Corpse can be knocked over and then ground attacked or stomped on and therefore from a game-design perspective the difference is justified, although not necessarily intuitive. Here is a short video of me doing just that with no level-ups while using the weakest melee weapon (the arcane dagger). ruclips.net/video/NPxhPoVmB-A/видео.htmlsi=Ax64bepninE_2Gx4 Obviously we don't expect you to know that on first try, but the enemy encounters in this game are meant to make you think rather than just running through hack-n-slashing everything like many games, which often feels hollow and boring. A few small notes, you can fire more shots of the spells once you level up your Intelligence spell, assuming you prefer to play with magic rather than melee. Leveling up resilience does help, but there are more useful skills to upgrade earlier on. In regards to the Arcane skill preventing you from firing the fireball, that is a known pitfall given that the increase in strength of the spell will cause it to cost more mana, which will put the spell out of usable range if you haven't applied any skill points to Intelligence to have a higher mana level. Your criticisms are noted and appreciated, hopefully you'll give the game a chance again at some point in the future.
Thank you so much for your response @ProfaneGames, as I mentioned before this game has a lot of potential and knowing that this is a game in alpha give me high hopes for the game itself. I'm looking at the video you posted and I see what you mean, maybe I missed a note regarding stomp, but maybe the stomp action can also be a bit more pronounced? That way it can make it clear what the Player Character is doing and as well as doesn't make it as snappy but maybe a bit more powerful (Prevents a stomp spam awkwardness). I agree that I had a feeling you adjusted the game so you're not hacking and slashing through the game, so I had times where I felt that I didn't want to go too hard on what I still consider myself to be, quite new to these kinds of games with a general idea as to how they work. I am happy to give this game a chance again in the future, and I hope that my critique as well as positive takeaways are very useful for future builds for the game. Please note, I hope to see this game grow since I know it is a long and at times difficult journey to make a game in general. Take care, and cheers!
@@Morghoulus The stomp itself and a lot of the combat is not fully explained as we don't want to bombard the user with every detail about how the game works. Unfortunately we run the risk of ending up with frustrated users who put the game down and never try again. How to best prevent that scenario while also not forcing too much information on the player and preserving a bit of mystique in the underlying mechanics is a delicate balance yet to be achieved. The animations throughout the game are a work in progress, so improving the stomp animation at some point is definitely in the future. Souls-likes are definitely an acquired taste, I personally thought Dark souls 1 was too hard when I first played it, and put it down for months before I gave it another chance. Once I started to understand the underlying mechanics of the game it really grew on me and now I can't play anything else really. The balance of the difficulty is subjective, depending on who's playing and unfortunately you can't make everyone happy all the time, but it is the goal of all developers to make the most possible people happy so their game is successful. In some ways Eternal Knight is harder than Dark Souls, but in most ways it's actually easier, but that is only evident once you fully understand all the underlying mechanics and know how to use them to your advantage, which I of course do as the developer, but my job is also to somehow communicate that to users through tutorial or intuitive UI, which is always a challenge.
@ProfaneGames that's understandable. If anything, I think if you were to replay the beginning parts of Dark Souls it'll give you a nice little way to ease controls and mechanics. That way it'll show what the player can look out for or what the player can immediately focus. One think I noticed with Dark Souls was that every tutorial bit was spaced out to give players time to get an idea as how the game works before given them another tool to the arsenal. An example is when they introduce the shield, the plunging attack, and parry. It also allows you as the devs time to give players another form of tutorial by teaching them that not every thing that's in the world gives a tutorial like when a Souls game ironically has a rolling bolder trap down some stairs. Of course that's just what I remember from seeing others play some Souls games and you don't have to do that, but if you worry about where or when to introduce mechanics, that might help you get a reference idea for how to work it.
damn missed it but stil good job
Still, you helped a lot on the way. It's greatly appreciated and hope to see you in future streams!
what did i miss what went wrong?
I was hunting for the spells and was going at soaring swim. In my hubris, and likely impatience (also because the layout of the wiki is a bit squished), I was under the impression I needed it to get the last ending, but turns out some of the spells don't affect the ending. Tonight though, gonna get the last of the spells and finish the fight.
Another good stream from heroplayer (you where there too) JK ofc
@@heroplayer7652 Thanks again for the heads up on those endings again
oh hey nice that heroplayer guy is back hes such a great addition to the stream LOL
Totally, Such a big help too!
I like that heroplayer guy
Totally agree! 10/10 would like heroplayer to return :D
Always struggled with this game got lost alot
Yoooo same dude. This game was awesome, but man it got easy to get lost at some points.
yo, can you try out some turok mods?
@ravender730 I'll certainly take a look. I'm not too familiar with modding in general, but I wanted to try mods in some games anyways.

OMG, this definitely brings back memories!
@wasbunnynowthorn glad to hear. I got really lost in this game, but hopefully I could show off this game proper even if I wound up going a little crazy lol.
I played this when i was young young, like 10 or 11 when the titanic movie was in theatres. My birthday is april 14th so ive always had some weird fascination with titanic. I never beat it, because i was pretty young and confused. But i would go around the ship for hours. And the beginning always stuck in my mind with the person yelling, and the apartment.
That's pretty awesome. I mainly grew up watching the movie since I have a family member whose obsessed with the Titanic. Unfortunately I never knew about this game until now and yeah that opener is definitely memorable. As for being young and confused, I can imagine since a lot of the game's events seem to require specific triggers to push certain things along. It's a fun experience, though I can tell that the aged mechanics/design can lead to some confusing or frustrating moments especially since I wasn't sure if the pocket watch was ever accurate or not lol. Thanks for watching and I'm glad to play a bit of nostalgia for you!
@@Morghoulus this Era of games were my favorite. Late 90s to mid 2000. Now it's all aaa nonsense
@@ScootsMcPoot You are definitely not wrong there. There are some good one out there, but there are just so much slop given to gamers these days that it gets frustrating especially when it isn't that hard to please gamers. Just make the game fun and actually target them as the audience. If the story is good, bonus. If it's replayable, double bonus.
So nostalgic 😅
@toih3479 Glad you enjoyed the video! It was my first time playing through it, but it definitely was a fun ride

wow
There’s the more recent version of the game called Project 401 V2.0 in the latest Unreal Engine 5, with 50% of the ship explorable. This demo is an outdated version of the game, released in 2017 in Unreal Engine 4.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll have the next demo downloaded so I can show off a more up to date demo. Much Appreciated!
