The science behind why pilots can get hypoxic.
It’s about 440mmHg at 14,000 feet. I misspoke. You try flying an airplane in turbulence, slightly hypoxia and trying to explain science.
445mmHg X 0.21 = 93 mmHg oxygen. - 45 = 48mmHg left for gas exchange.
48 PO2 mmHg on the oxyhemoglobin disassociation curve (google it) is equal to about 85% blood oxygen.
445mmHg partial pressure at 14,000 feet (multiply by 0.21 for the oxygen % in the air = the partial pressure of oxygen at that altitude) subtract 45mmHg for an increase in humidity and heat in your mouth and trachea and lungs when you inhale) think density altitude.
The best two ways to increase your oxygen level without blowing off too much CO2…. increase the partial pressure (descend...

Our truck’s transmission gave up the ghost after an hour of towing our toy hauler to the Mojave desert in Southern California for a 5 day dirt biking extravaganza with our four dogs. We regrouped, decided to wait a day for wind to calm a bit, and used our Hot Power Yoga skills to twist into the Comanche…..we decided on Vegas.

7.3l Transmission flush: Round two!!!
I've had the same brand and model for around four years. It is adequate for my staple gun, inflating tires, and simple tasks, and even a very small paint sprayer. It has been reliable up until a couple of weeks ago when the tank pressure continued to rise until the relief valve started popping open. The regulator is apparently defective. I tried looking everywhere for parts and they just don't sell much for it. It seems a problem with Kobalt tools. I bought their 80v weed trimmer and needed a simple part. The part has been on backorder for years. I checked to see if this particular part was the only issue and apparently it applies to every part I tried to find a replacement for. I was even told to buy another one to cannibalize for the part. I'll never buy another Kobalt tool. Good when they work, but not easily (if possible) to fix. If anyone knows where I can get parts for the compressor, please let me know. And don't recommend the company as they are the ones I contacted first.
Do you use your cowling support rods? Oh, I guess you did at the end of video. Nice clean engine compartment. Mine is 9233P.
Great video, point being check yor plane completely at least monthly.
Does your aircraft have the correct airbox on it ? Why does it have carb heat?
So if you buy a Hydra of Jelly built chip you need to be on safe side snd spend 7 grand on new transmission??
lol…your wife tuned ATIS to LGBT 🏳️🌈?
Thanks for the great video….will definitely help me improve my preflight moving forward!
In what ways are the Dakar pants better than the Mojave?
Hey, just wondering if you went up a size in order to fit the armor underneath it? Thanks!
Too much talking not showing how on video too confusing
Next time show a little bit of the bike brother
I have exactly the same compressor. I also bought from Lowe’s 2 1/2 years ago. It doesn’t work. Piston seized. Tried all repair angles. No good!!
I heard, even though it says oil free. I’ve always put oil in the tank and swished it around and it seemed like it rusted a lot less.
Aircraft: "They are Heaven in the air. But, Hell on earth."....I own a Comanche. You taught me a lot.
Ya know, you are right. They can be a lot to own especially if it had a lot of deferred maintenance when you bought it. After owning this airplane since 2014, I’ve kind of discovered that there isn’t really a middle ground….either they are gems or train wrecks. It took us eight months to find this one, and we still put a lot of money into it. BUT!, flying this fuel injected GAMI equipped 260 is the smoothest thing I have experienced. When she’s idling on the ground, it’s hard to tell if the engine is even on if you plug your ears, she’s just so smooth and fast too! I’m really glad you’re able to learn something! That’s great!
I have the black tank, at least 8 years old and it has stopped filling the tank. Other videos have claims this newer blue tank isn't as good. Soo, Im looking around. Thanks for the video.
You look like your on the devils lettuce.
Comanche 260 my fav plane..................nice trip
How many people can you take legally in this plane? Esspecially if you take less fuel & luggage.
Fantastic video... I'm awaiting delivery and closing on a 260. This is so valuable..thank you!
Mine isn’t even 2 years old. I only use it once a wee and at this time it doesn’t start. How do you rely on this junk is beyond me. Whats the secret fix to this?
Same! It’s only a couple years old. Loved it. Last time I went to use it, it’s just dead. Trying to see if there’s a ‘reset’ button in this thing. No luck finding one yet.
I love my hydra . I have gotten to try out tons of tuning options with the different setups I have had with just a email . I have 14 tunes from various intelligent gentlemen and each tune I have a different truck . The zf6 tranny will hold about 650 and then things start to explode 😂. Stay strong my 7.3 gentlemen. Let me know if you guys need any help 💪
My service book says 3
This is not really a pre flight check but more like a 100 hrs or annual.
Could be a better how-to showing how long you run the truck
No wonder it's overheating, you're using shit fluid. Valvoline is cheap junk. Don't skimp on the fluid. Always use motorcraft.
Say what?? Lol. Deep shit. Or less deep shit at higher altitude??
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME COBBA
You say you are not a mechanic, but I feel if you were, you would be a good one! Excellent video. I’ve been flying complex aircraft for 20 years, but I picked up some good ideas from you. Also, your video could apply to any plane, so I’m sure everyone who flies could benefit from it. Never too old to learn! Thank you sir.
Heck yea! That’s an honor to have someone so experienced still find value in that video. This year I did an owner assisted annual and although there wasn’t much that we found, going thru the experience help me understand more about what to look for during a pre flight. I never touched on the picture in my thumbnail. There was a birds nest under the cowling that I found during a preflight. I parked it in transient at Mammoth lakes airport (KMMH). That was an easy one to find but if the cowls didn’t open, like a lot of planes out there, it may have caused a few issues.
Does this compressor require oil?
No. Just clean the air filter and run it. I have many many hours on it so far. Still runs great!
I have a an eight year old version of that compressor. The regulator just failed, so I'm looking the get the newer one. I am going to find a way to replace the regulator on the old one.
Sweet, that’s good to know it last that long. I have ran the crap out of this one including sanding drywall sanding paint off cars, and other things that require prolonged runtimes. It’s held up very well so far I still continue to use it on a weekly basis.
For someone looking for a blower like me, this is great(valuable)info. Thanks for making this vid.
Excellent video. I’ll be sharing this with my Comanche-flying friends. Something all aircraft owners could learn from.
Thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful! I tend to over analyze a lot of things.
This was a great video. I have a 260B myself so this helped me rethink my pre-flight.
Heck yea! Glad it helped. I just got done doing an owner assisted annual. It’s my first time doing one since we’ve owned the air plane (8 years already). It was a great opportunity to learn more.
@@askmehowiknow3571 I am planning on doing my annual that way as well. If you have a good IA recommendation in the LA area please share.
@@sugebzzy2038 I’m really not sure about that. Every year for the last 4 years I have flown down to SoCal to do the annual to keep the owner/mechanic continuity and trust going. I’m just not sure about anyone in LA. I think mike bush at Savvy aviation has a list of shops that they have had good experience dealing with. That might be a good start.

Great video. I own Comanche N9225P, also a '67 260B
Thanks for watching! The Comanche is a fantastic under rated airplane. We true at 161 knots at nearly every altitude. The “B” holds a special place in our heart. We have flown her for nearly 8 years and 500 hrs! Man, time flies! It’s a balance to include things that I want to remember, and that mean the most to me along with keeping the audiences attention. Lol.
Great stuff, nicely done! Just one ? regarding that Cylinder 5 overheat you found - the baffling hole that you plugged to cure it is beside Cylinder 6 (rear right). I know airflow does strange things around engine compartments, but seems a little odd that the leak was on the other side to Cylinder 5.......
Good call! That’s not the first time I have mixed them up. Thanks for watching! Fly safe!
I was told not to get this air compressor because it has a leak around the pressure dial. Well I did not listen and two years later it leaks. Trying to find a Fix-It video
That’s a bummer. Sorry to hear. I haven’t had any issues with that and I usually leave about 60psi in there for days on end. It’s been a good compressor for me so far.
Yes those screws will back out far enough to jam up the stabiliator.
Another dope video! “ You lost your license now you can’t fly ! Lol. Keep ‘em Up . I’m grounded bc of this damn weather in Norcal! Can’t wait to get that Camanchero up soon
Thanks for watching my half rate video! Lol. I feel your pain! NorCal has been so mean to GA this year. Just getting nailed! We should get some of the NorCal Comanches together for a fly-in this spring.
Living the dream! Hope you get to do that Mojave dirt bike trip soon. Beautiful place to ride.
Thanks Matt! The Mojave desert is one of my favorite places.
I wonder if this one will do my semi tires at 115psi
It might take a while but this compressor is still going strong! I use it regularly for high PSI tires on my diesel.
Really! Ok I'll buy me one then. Thanks
Stock Trans can't keep up with higher hp tunes
Great Video! That's some complicated airspace
Good video!! Nothing like flying in the bay! Peace fellow Comanche owner!
Heck yea! Thanks for watching! The Comanche is such a great aircraft!
Started following u awhile ago! Great shit! Love the sarcasm. Keep posting.
@@travelingchef3242 thanks for that! Some times I think I need to tone it down and be more professional. Lol. I just love having fun! The next few months we are going to be flying a lot. (Man plans, God laughs) I’m hoping to get some good videos made of Sedona, Channel Islands in Washington and hopefully some Idaho adventures along with some repeats of SoCal and Havasu.
I’m trying to do the same exact thing for my travel trailer. I have a 2001 7.3 power stroke. Do you have any added mods to support the power?
Hey! Yes I do, just a larger intercooler, wicked wheel turbo compressor and a ATS housing, and a exhaust. Pretty minor mods. The hydra is great but it does not lock the torque converter below 50mph which can get the tranny fluid really hot when pulling heavy loads below that speed. The transmission has overheated several times up into the 260-300 degree mark. Because of that overheating I’m sure it shorten the life of the transmission substantially. I’ll have to reach out to them to see if they can change the tune and have the torque converter lock up earlier to avoid overheating. Just something to be aware of. But other than that the tunes for the truck increase performance an unbelievable amount and make driving it so much more enjoyable.
@@askmehowiknow3571 Awesome! Thanks for the info. I have the Mishimoto trans cooler which dropped the temps a lot when I tow so I should be ok there. Everything else is stock. I’d like to keep this truck for awhile. Ill probably do the exhaust like you did. Thanks again!
@@r3efelipe it’s a great truck. We tow a 10k bumper pull toy hauler with it and the hydra makes 70 in the freeway a non issue. Passing up hills is night and day more powerful and EGTs on the 25 HP tune are super safe. Enjoy. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
@@askmehowiknow3571get the 6.0 or Mishimoto tranny cooler. It will make a huge difference on temps.
Dude, your door mechanism. We def need to touch base
Enlighten me! Is there a better way/easier way to open and close it?
@@askmehowiknow3571 yours is sooooooo much easier than mine! Mine requires a strong person and two latches. I want what you have. What is the name?
@@CaptainJaison I’m not sure what’s different among the Comanches but maybe my door makes it easier to push my wife out if she gets talking too much. Lol. Jk.
@@askmehowiknow3571 hahaha I can't take you serious man! lol
@@CaptainJaison yea, never take me too seriously. I’ve never been accused of being smart. Lol.
Your door doesn't have a top latch??? How is that?
Your Comanche and mine were made around the same time haha I have 48P! lol It's cool knowing that I do the same things during my preflight. Fly safe my friend!
How long did the flight take?
Hey! Thanks for watching! The flight from French valley in Temecula to John Wayne was about 15 min or so. The flight back from John Wayne to Calaveras in NorCal is usually about 2 hrs.
Thanks so much. As a newer Comanche owner I appreciated this. Also based at F70 and have Bradford taking care of the plane!
Bradford is such a good guy! He’s been taking care of our Comanche for about 8 years even though we moved to Northern California. He has always been fair and has been such a pleasure to work with. We all need to do a fly-in at his new hanger house!
