    We are on the same brain wave for our son’s 6th grade school year…we are focusing on a lot of what you are. We are continuing on with write shop Jr and trying Beuwolf grammar, and adding on some of the Critical thinking Co books to help werd he’s struggling in LA. We are also doing Ancient civilization, but with Curiosity Chronicles , our science is from Guest hollow but focused on health/human anatomy. We are also doing Guest hollows geography course so I can try to start painting a big picture of global society as a whole

    This is amazing! I’m starting next year with OM with my 7th grader and we are only an hour from Williamsburg so I can’t wait to incorporate this! Do you feel like the Language Arts and History go so closely together that you can’t do one without the other? I had other plans for History so was going to do OM just for Language Arts this year just to try it out; but do I need to purchase the History too?

    • @TheSimpleHappyLife
      @TheSimpleHappyLife 3 месяца назад

      I think for the 7th grade level, you could get away with doing a different history. The younger levels of English and History are in the same coursebook, so I've just followed the history and incorporated other resources as we go. Because the literature for English lines up pretty well with the history lessons, you could look at the table of contents in the Oak Meadow History sample to see if your history plans or curriculum line up. www.oakmeadow.com/curriculum-samples/ Of course, you could also present the information in whatever order makes the most sense. But I would say that you can do the English without the OM history at this level.

    For Saxon we utilized Nicole the Math Lady- check her out she does all levels of Saxon!!! And I personally love Saxon. My oldest hit a wall at Algebra 2 as a 9th grader so we did a switch to Math U see and stepped back to Algebra 1 to make sure we were ok and now he is in Math U See geometry and loves it.- he was math gifted until Algebra 2 (he did all calculations in his head). My middle hated math from when we pulled them from school after covid- she did Saxon 3 (parent led) and then we tried TGTB level 4 and still struggled and ended on Math u see. She is is 6th grade and will be doing prealg for 7th. My youngest has only known Saxon since she has been home since 1st grade and she wants nothing else. This year she is in 4th grade and does Saxon5/4. I just sit next to her and provide more emotional support- she gets it on her own. Once my youngest gets to the Algebra level I will outsource again to Nicole the Math Lady. Hope this helped- very rambly

Videos are quick and they have a fun corny brain break. She’s very bubbly and not boring. We love that the workbooks have no fluff and are to the point. • @TheSimpleHappyLife
      @TheSimpleHappyLife 5 месяцев назад

      I honestly do not know. We were using RightStart Math and Teaching Textbooks before we started OM. The OM 4th grade level was pretty easy for my youngest. So we used it along with Teaching Textbooks and IXL. Since it was a new curriculum I just let it be more confidence building for him, but OM was more of a challenge in the reading and writing for him. The second half of OM 5th grade math is just right for him this year, so we are only using it along with IXL.

    How do you like oak meadow curriculum compare to book shark? Well I know you have older kids than I do. I have first grader this year. Just want to hear what u can say about it since you have used it before. Im thinking of bookshark science and history.

      So I am not sure about the younger years of Oak Meadow. The levels we have done are written to the student and are designed for them to be more independent. I like the art aspect of Oak Meadow and the varying assignments my boys get to pick from. Again I am not sure about the younger levels. I like OM English and History set up for my boys. Now the science is a lot and takes getting used to, but my guys enjoyed it as well. BookShark science is more straight forward with the readings and worksheets, and I like that they have science kits. I don't think OM has science kits until 7th grade.
