I agree with your opinions, chariot especially. It's the easiest boss in entire franchise. He just stands there and if you have some experience you beat him easily. Yea i like his design and maybe they wanted him to not to be that strong for being the first boss. But i think they could've made him little harder. And he would've been an amazing boss. But still i like him.

Hey. Love the list. But it's unfortunate that you didn't include the house of the dead overkill bosses. I think you should research it and do a separate entity on it and compare it to other bosses from the HOTD

I Love this list..Despite I think "Justice" & "Death" kinda Swapped Out

House of the dead 1, 2, 3 and Time Crisis 1 and 2 are my go to Arcade games to play whenever I need to kill time. I can finish HoTD 1 with 1 credit and HoTD’s 2 and 3 with around 3 credits only.

While I actually enjoy the utter disorientating chaos of the Wheel of Fortune fight (and epic boss theme), you're completely right about it being a coin eater -- I can't even remember how many coins I used to defeat him in the arcade but I'm guessing he alone made me at least £5-10 poorer.

I watched this to see if he would talk about the scrapped levels from house of the dead 2 the museum and the clock tower and a scrapped boss being the puppeteer

About the part where you mentioned the bosses are Tarot references, here are my theories on why they were given such names (will only include the ones I'm probably sure about): Magician - The reverse card means obsession with power, being blinded with emotions. Magician in the game has an obsession with getting revenge on the AMS but fails every single time and doesn't bother reconsidering his strategy and maintains the same fighting pattern throughout. Empress - The Empress card is associated with life and nature, but the boss' design is a bit machine like and wields chainsaws, which is pretty much machine and destructive (often used to cut trees, the opposite of respecting life I guess) Emperor - The Emperor card represents authority and Emperor the boss keeps talking about how he rules over nature and such. Lovers - Although yeah, that's a male and female duo. The spiders represent the opposite of the Lovers card since female spiders eat their mates, so yeah not a healthy relationship. Chariot - His tendency to pursue you in Scarlet Dawn and his pattern in the first game where he just swings his axe represents the one-track minded nature of the Chariot card Strength - The card depicts a female angel but the boss is the complete opposite - male, muscular, ugly Wheel of Fate/Fortune - Literally has a wheel on his back and the fact he's Dr. Curien embodies the destiny aspect of the card. Justice - Is supposed to represent the opposite of his corresponding card since he looks like a tortured captive with the chains and exposed muscles Hanged Man - The card represents self-sacrifice but as seen in the first game, the boss tends to command bats to do his bidding, basically throwing others under the bus, the opposite of the Hanged Man card. Death - Probably an interpretation of "Death always comes for everyone." His pattern is to chase after Lisa and G and the police clothing may be because police are always known for chasing criminals, in this case, the player for "trespassing" Temperance - Explicitly stated by the devs that his fat look is the opposite of the Temperance card, which represents moderation Star - Has some star motifs on his shoulders and the projectiles look like stars??? Judgment - The card represents being able to reflect and make decisions on your own but the boss is literally a mindless entity. The puppet is headless and relies on someone else to make the decisions for it. The World - The card represents transcendence and the boss keeps on evolving (until James sacrificed himself)

I love the game series, I even played the 2nd game multiple time with my dad in the arcade and kept finishing it, I tried to find and play the 1st game but couldnt. Me and my other are house of the dead fans and the grenade throw at magician keeps haunting me. and the movie sucks balls

I’ll be honest, I bloody love the Wheel of Fate boss fight because it’s a war of attrition, but tbf the reload mechanic of HoTD 3 utterly ruins it and those projectile attacks are so difficult to manage

"Hangedman is so annoying and hard to counter, which is why hes so low on the list" Brother... respectfully, I know the Bats and Life bar are really hard to balance, and i know mainly that factor is owed to the HOTD's general consensus on tactics to use on Hangedman -- they almost always prefer that you use the speedrun strat; which is to prioritize Hangedman'a HP and gun his health down as FAST as you can, because once he reaches half life; the bats just despawn. I, for one, am the unpopular opinion, simply because I quickly uncovered a No-Damage stratagem of my own for Hangedman's 2nd phase -- once Hangedman loses his bats, he quite literally cannot touch me... so i prioritize his Bats in the 1st phase, instead! :) Thats why Hangedman is a lot higher on my top 10 list, making the top three, because hes iconic and fun for me. His character and speed really shine for me, and well, the ease of my tactics may make it easy, but no less enjoyable, because Ive watched the Hangedman molly-wop my best friend at age 13 and my Dad TWICE -- once with an old battle playing as James... Honestly hate to toot my own horn... but I love Hangedman. Because I love his character, I love how he plays, and well... he was one big W in my childhood that i held close to my chest, through a dark age where i would find little more. Lets round it out like that. .... thanks for making it to the bottom of my comment! I'll reward your patience with an actual reward -- my ancient childhood Stratagem for Zero-Damaging the Hangedman. Phase 1 -- just prioritize the bats. They all fly around, and after maybe a handful of continues, you can tell which ones are flat-facing the camera (the ones coming in for attack, specifically), and down them all in one clip. It takes a bit to master, but honestly its a lot less risky (and in the end, coin-saving! ^-^) to just quickly learn how to pick the attacking bats out of the crowd and shoot them -- forget Hangedman's HP; unless you have the patience of a firecracker, it wont matter, because the 2nd phase is where you learn to actually molly-wop him... Phase 2 -- All the bats are dead by your hand, and now the Hangedman himself gets involved. He flies around the screen very fast, but its a fluke -- a boss tactic that prepares you for one crucial thing used when fighting the Magician -- timing your whole clip, and emptying it at lightning speed, when it will count the most!!! *WAIT until you hear him say "DIE!"*; i even encourage spending a continue by choosing not to fire at him to lower noise interference, and just listening for the "DIE!", so that you can clearly identify it amidst all of the game's chaotic audio -- he says this every time he goes directly on the offensive; ALL of the Hangedman's attacks are preceded by THAT audio cue. The timing between the audio cue and the Life Damage (from memory, sorry; its been awhile) should be about 5 seconds for the dive bomb or balcony dash (3rd phase), 3 seconds for the bat swarm (1st Phase)... and only 1 second for the 2nd Phase Claw Swipe... the last thing you need to know is that in his 2nd phase, he'll veer JUST offscreen before yelling "DIE!"; either to the left or right -- allowing us to follow him with his gun, NOT fire until we hear "DIE!"; potentially sneak a reload on that side of the screen WHEN he says it... and finally empty the clip into him at lightning speed, forcing a STUN before he can land his hit!!! This also trains us for the upcoming "melee" rush the Magician does, because the same tactic applies, only theres no audio cue -- he just darts off-screen to the side hes gonna attack from. In the Hangedman's 3rd Phase; its basically more of the same -- waiting with a full clip, following him around with your gun sights, waiting for the audio cue, and emptying the clip when his flight path suddenly becomes a lot more straight than it usually is. Learn all of this with a few continues, and you can EASILY Zero-Damage the Hangedman... and pick up some valuable skils which may aid you in other installations of HOTD.

Sorry, The Star doesn't belong on this list. He's just a Dante-ripping floaty-man.

Alright, as someone who has some fondness of the game, I'm gonna give you the rundown, my thoughts on this. I'm even going to remember to count *down* and not up. SO! {10} Yeah, I can see why this is a placeholder. The Tower isn't special, but also not bad. {9} The Lovers fall under 'Interesting, but not interested' for me, so I can see this being here. {8} Now, for the Priestess, I actually have something to say: She's an octopus. I'm not entirely sure how that was missed, when you DO guess that her cries are whale-like, but she's an octopus, and they don't move very fast on land. That's why this fight is the way that it is. Wait, is Temperance a she? Never heard that one before. I figured it was more a giant toadman. {7} Chariot is much better in Scarlet Dawn, yeah. Them re-using a couple older bosses and making them better was a good decision on the part of the developers. {6} Empress' design and weapon are not bad for me, and I think some of the fights in HOTD 4 were suppose to be somewhat mirroring the ones from the second game on purpose, like Goldman took a bicycle pump to the previous ones and...okay, Star isn't special. He's just a floating man with energy balls ripping off Dante's look. {5} Hierophant completely belongs on this list. No arguments. {4} It's a spider. It shoots webs, so it's a spider. Hermit isn't a very GOOD spider, but it's a spider. {3} I figured Sun would be here. Bit of a nothing boss. However, there might be others I think deserve to be here more than previous entries... {2} Saw this one coming a mile away. The Emperor's such a derp, thanks to HOTD 2's 'acting'. And yeah, its powers are irritating to deal with. I'm completely with you here. {1} I can see your reasoning here. That said... Star belongs on this list for being a lame floaty-man with knives who rips off Dante from Devil May Cry in atttire, and both Justice and Temperance are only saved by their design because they have no character but Rawr.

Justice deserves more justice 😂, the only boss that actually scares me. you should definitely rank every single boss theme in the game ❤

Wheel of fate really was a long and difficult fight but I was also like what he and the Emperor had to do with the living dead but I didn’t care much as long as I’m intertain

overkill bosses are meh (I LOVE THE SCREAMER but thats it) most of the gameplay is a copy of other bosses and the design is decent to meh and the final boss prob has to be one of the easiest bosses in the series

Do you mind if I ask what are your feelings on The Fool? I motive that he was left out in both best and worst bosses list. I, personally, can't stand him as he is so fast that I think he could outpace Magician and his weak spots are so damn small to hit sometimes.

While it's cool there are some 'upgrades' on some bosses like Hermit -> Lovers, but I hope they'll keep some slots of tarot for more various other boss type for each new Tarot name. No more reusing of past boss shape for other tarot. Let the upgrade be something like what happened to Chariot and Hangedman on Scarlet Dawn. Too late though, it's only Devil left. For me Emperor is something like typical slime on RPG ish game thus make he can replicate the shape of other bosses, it's a cool idea but they just can't execute it well with their tech at the time. He looked stiff af instead of slime-ish. Gotta to give credit for the main idea though, hopefully the remake can execute Emperor's boss fight main idea better.
