2d cycle time lapse #39 - SWIMMING and BUBBLES!
Alright, cycle #39 from my next short film, my first of two swimming cycles. Started out slow as I got a feel for it, but fell into 10 minutes per drawing once the first three were worked out for arcs, angles, and spacing. Watch for the special bonus section with the bubbles at the end!
Thanks for checking it out!
12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped.

2d cycle time lapse #38 - STRAIGHTFORWARD WALK... with a TWIST!
Просмотров 349 часов назад
Alright, cycle #38 from my next short film, I was determined to keep my approach simple, which I did for the most part, with the exception of the fur on the elbows/knees and body silhouette! Still ended up with some nice relative complexity on the arms and head, I feel like I'm starting to get this process. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. 2d cycle time lapse #37 - ASYMMETRICAL RUN with HEAD SMEAR!
Просмотров 2614 часов назад
2024-07-16 Alright, cycle #37 from my next short film, not exactly what I was initially planning but that's the joys of going straight to clean, you never quite know what you're going to get! Heel strike turned out to be on drawings 8 and 11, which means that the feet are doing more of a gallop than a run, but it's supported with the single circular body motion that accounts for both steps happ...
2d cycle time lapse #36 - GORILLA CHARGE!
Просмотров 2319 часов назад
Alright, cycle #36 from my next short film, hit my 2-hour budget with some pretty good angles and relatively consistent structure, despite my oversimplification of the body shape. At this point I'm more focused on speed and not going over with too many ideas since even my worst efforts these days is still withing tolerable limits, more than half-way there now. Thanks for checking it out! 12 dra...
2d cycle time lapse #35 - SQUASHY STRETCHY BOUNCE!
Просмотров 2521 час назад
Alright, cycle #35 from my next short film, my initial sketch gave me all I needed so the rest was just execution. Reminds me of the "sucky baby" Gerry Fournier assignment from animation school back in the day, still fun and still effective, with a thousand different equally valid potential solutions. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. CREDITS: 35 down 35 to go Dra...
2d cycle time lapse #34 - STARTING FROM BREAKDOWN!
Просмотров 73День назад
Alright, cycle #34 from my next short film, trying a different workflow with mixed results. I ended up changing my starting pose once I had the rest of the cycle complete, as it was functioning as an awkward breakdown rather than a transition between strong extremes, but it got me where I wanted to go. Very happy with the full-screen real estate usage, looking for more of that in future. Thanks...
2d cycle time lapse #33 - CIRCULAR RUN!
Просмотров 74День назад
Alright, cycle #33 from my next short film, approached this pretty loosely and ended up needed a massive smear drawing in order to hook the cycle back up. Pretty forgiving on the body and tail there, I had drawn myself into another corner, thank goodness for the Dover Boys. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. 2d cycle time lapse #32 - LIMITED ANIMATION!
Просмотров 3514 дней назад
Alright, cycle #32 from my next short film, dividing up the motion into layers for some good ol' limited animation! Eyes, tail, and SL arm are all moving on separate layers, with the body as a held cel. Added hatching for extra detail since I had time, this was the fastest and simplest cycle I've done so far. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. CREDITS: 32 down 38 t...
2d cycle time lapse #31 - SMEARS!
Просмотров 2614 дней назад
Alright, cycle #31 from my next short film, as often is the case I became emboldened to experiment as the cycle progressed. I ended up doing smears on 5/12 drawings, 3 of them fully smeared. Appeal aside, the motion worked out pretty darn well considering, flipping is always the way to go. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. 2d cycle time lapse #30 - Backwards Flailing Run!
Просмотров 5021 день назад
Alright, cycle #30 from my next short film, went pretty wild with exaggerating the arcs and stretching the arms/legs, sacrificing volume consistency for strength of individual drawings. 10,11,12 are pretty much just functional as a way to get back to the cycle but it's worth the wide sweeping arcs and real-estate coverage of the overall cycle. Thanks for checking it out! 12 drawings on 2's, 1 s...
2d cycle time lapse #29 - Pepe Le Pew-style bounding run!
Просмотров 9521 день назад
Alright, cycle #29 from my next short film, turned out pretty much like I'd hoped with the timing top-heavy and showing nice offsets between the front and back legs. Details took me extra time to add in later, not sure they were needed (especially the scales since they look like fur to me with the looseness of the shapes), so might be cutting back on those in future. Thanks for checking it out!...
2d cycle time lapse #28 - floppy armed run!
Просмотров 6621 день назад
Alright, cycle #28, a little more complex design, I fought the layering and struggled to keep the arm/leg silhouettes clear on a few drawings so this one went to 2 1/2 hours, turned out good enough though. Sillier than I intended but gotta go with those natural inclinations. Thanks for checking it out! Drawn in TV Paint, 2.5 hours. 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. CREDITS: 28 down 42 to go ...
2d cycle time lapse #27 - leading with the back legs!
Просмотров 2921 день назад
Alright, cycle #27, I ended up spending a good amount of time on the legs and arms in this vertically-focused cycle, leading with the back legs pushing off first (a little unintuitively), and having the tail turn out pretty well first try and not needing revision. Should be some nice contrast to the other cycles I've done so far. Thanks for checking it out! Drawn in TV Paint, 12 drawings on 2's...
2d cycle time lapse #26 - smeary run!
Просмотров 4421 день назад
Alright, cycle #26 from my next short film, started out as a standard run but turned into smears on drawings 5 and 11 in order to get more contrast and ease my transition back into the cycle. Might be doing more of this in future, it sure makes things easier :D Thanks for checking it out! Drawn in TV Paint, 2.5 hours. 12 drawings on 2's, 1 second looped. Alright, cycle #25 from my next short film, didn't have much to work with here in terms of implied motion or direction so I went with reversing the line of action, changing the expression, and eventually deciding to add a jump at the last minute, all came together pretty well. Might do more like this in the future. Thanks for checking it out! Drawn in TV Paint, 2.0 hours. 12 drawings on 2's, 1 ...

The quality of the e conte ( storyboard ) comes from Miyazaki Hayao beeing first an animator. That's why his movies are so action driven and why he can depict the feeling he needs in the scene so accurately. Don't forget he had been mentored by the amazing Ôtsuka Yasuo, one of the best japanese animator ever, who, by the way, animated the cars in this movie.

Thanks for the comment! Translation to English: "oh! I guess some foreigners have finally realized how good this movie is. Hayao Miyazaki's memorable debut work When Spielberg saw the car chase in this movie, he said, ``I don't have the confidence to surpass this movie, so I won't make it.'' A work full of romance by Hayao Miyazaki I lined up the day before the release and saw it three times on the day. Brochures are kept neatly When I die, I'll be cremated with you (I won't give it to anyone) If you haven't seen this movie, don't tell me you like Hayao Miyazaki."

I've been looking into a lot about this show as of late and I really appreciate seeing a breakdown of some of the work you did here! It's interesting seeing the show and its assets in their proper form and learning little things that went into the animation here. That sort of glitchy jitter you did with Pupert as his heart breaks was quite clever and a fun effect for its time. Also, now that you've mentioned it, that face you made out of the mud is now my favorite character in the show.

As an animator currently in Vancouver, it sure is inspiring to watch this while also somewhat depressing. Would love to see studios like Intl. Rocketship pop back up and bring a unique flavour to Vancouver once more. You definitely wouldn't see this much unique creative freedom nowadays in current studio pipelines.
