Broadcast Vivosmart HR data onto a GPS watch
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.8 лет назад
Got a Vivosmart HR? Connect it up to a GPS watch and you'll get heart rate data and distance in sync for your workouts. In this demo I've paired up with a Garmin Vivoactive, though it should work on any Garmin device with ANT connectivity.
Garmin Watch Strap Broken? Here's how to fix it.
Просмотров 28 тыс.8 лет назад
My Garmin Vivoactive watch strap was looking a bit grubby and broken, so I decided to replace it with a new blue silicone strap. Here's a quick guide on how to change the strap over using a Garmin kit. These packs are available across many of the watches in the Forerunner range, so it's quite easy to buy a strap which matches your watch design. Original article on ShuffleRun - www.shufflerun.co...

    Can I attach the sensor with electrical tape without losing the signal? I'm worried about it falling off when riding rough terrain.

    I have Garmin Speed Sensor 2 Gen3 BSCM Version 4.73.4 (no Build Number) which uses Garmin Connect on my Android phone (I paired it via Garmin Connect App). It auto records my Cycling Time after the ride but not the speed or distance (I am assuming ascent needs a cadence recorder?) - I cannot find anything about setting up wheel size but the product is on the metal bit in the middle of the back wheel anyway - is there something different I need to be doing? Is it supposed to tell me distance and average speed (as well as the time) after the ride has ended? Thanks

    What are you using to display your ride on the handlebars? I gave the speed sensor 2 but would like to see the miles clocking up as I ride. Whenever I go into the Garmin app it records the ride as complete even if I’m part way through. Thanks!

    my 530 does not allow me to enter wheel diameter. Have latest software, any ideas?

    • @uncoolben79
      @uncoolben79 3 года назад

      it should auto-calibrate if you go for a little ride with the 530 switched on! (somewhere with good GPS reception!)

    • @johncrow5552
      @johncrow5552 3 года назад

      @@uncoolben79 Thanks, the calibratiion function turns on after you spin the wheel a bit. I calibrated it by measuring wheel circumference rather than GPS as I have doubts about the accuracy of GPS.

    • @uncoolben79
      @uncoolben79 3 года назад

      @@johncrow5552 I know what you mean. I used to use my phone for strava, then an old Edge 130 and now a 530 ... Since ditching the phone for dedicated devices, my rides always show up to be 5-10% shorter than my friends who recorded via smartphone, with about 5-10% less climb! Bit annoying! Dont know if mine is correct or if the phones are!

    Thanks for this helpful video. I'm amazed (actually not) how completely useless ware the guides included in the packaging. The push buttons and menus are pure 2006. It's interesting as soon as I started riding it jumped to the map, fussing around I found I could add speed and compass direction - but I'd selected elevation profile and speed...

  • @rdkuless

    does the wheel diameter affect accuracy..? Ie: a 406 will spin far faster than a 700 at the same MPH.

    • @macvos
      @macvos 2 года назад

      No, since you either enter the wheel diameter manually or auto calculate it by riding.

    • @rdkuless
      @rdkuless 2 года назад

      the speed sensor is only sensing revolutions. So are you saying the Garmin Edge is calculating the speed by the number of revolutions divided by distance..?

    • @macvos
      @macvos 2 года назад

      @@rdkuless no, by multiplying revolutions with wheel circumference (=distance) and then dividing by time

  • @marcb1278
    @marcb1278 3 года назад

    It used to be that the sensor must be installed on the rear hub, as per Garmin. When did that change?

    • @macvos
      @macvos 2 года назад

      The rear is more accurate for distance traveled (since the front wheel moves left and right a little during riding and therefore covers more distance on the same ride), but the front wheel had better reception (shorter distance to the computer and less obstacles in between).

    is it possible to permanently disable backlight on edge 25 I've only two options 1st permanently enabled 2nd auto time it's annoying that I can't switch it off permanently

    • @Shufflerun
      @Shufflerun 7 лет назад

      Hey Felis, You're right. I've had a good play around the Edge 25 and can't find any alternative options for the backlight - Only the two you've said. When the light comes on with a button press (auto time), you can turn off the light instantly by pressing the on/off button, the top left one. That's the best I can give you I'm afraid.

    What's the battery life for the Vivosmart HR on broadcast mode? I'm thinking of using it for cycling purposes. But I can go on long rides (6-8 hours in one go), so I'm a bit curious about the batt life.

    • @Shufflerun
      @Shufflerun 8 лет назад

      Hey +Ricky, I've tested this out by pairing a FR 220 with the Vivosmart HR. Surprisingly it was the 220 that ran out out of juice first! It lasted 8 and a half hours, while the Vivosmart HR still had plenty of power left. Once the 220 died, I kept the broadcast mode active on the Vivosmart HR and it lasted about another 10 hours; though not being connected to a device may drain battery differently. You should be fine to use it for your long bike rides, though it may shorten the battery life of your GPS device, best to use one that can easily last your ride just in case.
