Really? I thought that's when someone fails to pay the mortgage and bank takes possession of the property and then sells it to someone else. But also sometimes there's possibility to pay the person's debts and they write the deed to you - and now you continue paying it and own the property after all. That way the person that sold it to you doesn't have big hole in their credit score.
