5" Clarion wide range speaker test
Interesting driver with a teal green-gray cone. 8 Ohms. Bought this with the intention to replace the 5-¼" Carbonneau driver in my GE-P780B (well, once I get to it and if it turns out to be a goner). Has a few cracks in the cone but has a nice crisp sound with deep punchy bass and good treble response.

Not sure what model. Seems to be an 800 Ohm speaker as I had to literally crank the amp wide open to get anything out of the driver. Otherwise sounds good, no rubbing or anything.

Video was captured using my Panasonic D-snap via AV in (line). I did not use or have a Video8 tape on hand, but I did test the tape player with a Hi8 tape and aside from obvious compatibility issues, all of the player functions (pause, FF, RW, etc.) work fine. Despite being a bare-bones model and having no nightshot or halogen spotlight, the TR64 has an amazing low light sensitivity of just 0.8...

The canon SX230, SX210, SX240 and similar models are notorious for lens scratches and getting dust in both the lens and sensor. Disassembly for cleaning may be better said than done for most folks including myself. It's better (and more economical) to pay up for a clean example like this one. This unit is not for sale, so don't bother asking. This particular unit is in very good condition. it d...

The worst speaker I've heard yet.mp4
Просмотров 169Месяц назад
Small 3 x 5" 8 Ohm 1.5W. Despite being NOS and rub-free, it sounds absolutely terrible considering how stiff it is. It's no better than a typical AM pocket radio speaker. I have other vintage 3" x 5" speakers that sound WAY better than this even without any kind of baffle.

Nice speaker video. It has good clarity
It is a good speaker, but I definitely have better than this for sure. Not to mention the very high impedance makes this a difficult speaker to drive. I'm gonna have to measure it and see what DC resistance it actually reads, but I'm betting somewhere along the lines of 800 Ohms (as some Philips/Norelco and NEFA speakers were)
Quam unit? Has the same bolted magnet as a quam.
Nice wizzer unit. Good deal. Sounds nice on my headphone.
Nice driver for sure.

Your right, it does look similar to the 1999a version of the mininus 2.5s on my page. I see from your video they are also Malaysia made speakers. Now I'm curious about the minimus 0.3s. Great video 📹 👍
@@speakeradventures Thanks!
Hey there. How's it been. Man your right they do look rather similar to the ones I have. These look even closer to the first Gen bose 901. Nice video
@@speakeradventures Thanks! I've been fine, just have homework assignments piling up lately. They are fairly similar to the early Bose 901 series I & II.
Great video, thanks for this.
@@richardcrook2112 You're welcome!
That's a great demonstration , thanks for that. Doesn't sound like a full range speaker, I guess it's a woofer or mid/woofer. I'm fascinated by these old Utah speakers, I wonder how old that driver is.
Ah I see it's an instrument speaker for a Hammond organ, it's sounds suprisingly bassy and slightly muffled though.
@@richardcrook2112These were actually mounted (and glued in with adhesive) to separate pieces of plywood at my local speaker specialty store. I removed them from the plywood baffles as I don't have space for those (and they weren't in great shape anyway). It appeared they could have been used as extension/console speakers or as an addition to the rear rear deck of a car? These are 8 ohm speakers made by Utah on the 26th wk of 1976. They do indeed have decent bass response to ~70Hz (though granted I had the bass turned up and my smartphone is very sensitive to bass). It's definitely not a full-range driver, seems to roll off around 7-9Khz although I had an AM radio program playing when I recorded this clip. So you're not hearing the full extent of the speaker.
@@richardcrook2112 Speaking of which here's another clip I recorded which does demonstrate the full extent of the Utah 6" x 9". ruclips.net/video/jW_5thwNAc4/видео.html

Mine are still going strong after 20 years as well. Still using them on my main PC, which has been replaced a few times since then. No reason to replace them.
They sound great! Much MUCH better in person than this. I have a single 502 in excellent shape. looking for it's sister or to sell to good home.
@@scooby0068 Yeah, the camera I shot this video with does little justice to these speakers (aside from stereo separation). I do have a single David 30 that is missing the original woofer.

@@justlooking6898 My Sony Xperia 1 mk III (Smartphone) that I used to record this video is actually VERY bass-sensitive, which makes it great for recording smaller speakers in free air, but it's also prone to Sony's awful heavy compression anytime you hold it up against or even remotely near a decently capable bookshelf speaker or ≥ 8 inch speaker in free air. It's not a square wave, but it's not pleasant to listen to. The bass comes off as bloated and boxy when it's nothing like that in-person. This video is a good example of what I'm talking about. ruclips.net/video/L6XrkObLaXs/видео.html There is no EIA code or date or even impedance on the speaker anywhere. Stamped on the lower pole plate of the magnet just reads "490355" and "612TNG". I do however know these were used as midranges and midwoofers for various Infinity RS-series speakers including infinitesimals, but that's all I know about them. I drove this particular driver with my Fosi BT20A class-D Amp (old version) which is realistically rated for around 50W into the 4 ohm load that this driver is, and closer to 25-30W at 8 Ohms with the included 24V 4.5A supply.

Soound like 💩
@@OU-xc4os What you're hearing is intermodulation distortion because the front & rear waves are cancelling each other out. It'll sound much better when mounted to an enclosure or at least some kind of baffle.
@@brigganthewolf1461 The two waves cancelling is pretty much entirely linear at these SPL levels so it will generate no distortion. What is generating the distortion is the motor force plummeting (and conversely the suspension force suddenly increasing) as it gets to higher excursions. While it’s not always explicitly so it allows the speaker to gracefully handle being overdriven without trashing itself mechanically. The one downside is that the coil looks like a resistive load at the ends of travel so it can smoke itself before it heads back the other way. Of course running it in free air you could probably crash the coil into the magnet if it doesn’t have a stop.
To summerize the other 2 guys said, putting in box = much better sound

Do you have a manual or any instructions for that radio?
@@whbeng Unfortunately no. I didn't get this with a manual. There is very little info on it to begin with. That said it's a very simple radio - on the top is your on/off volume (left), decorative compass (middle- I forget what purpose it would've served), and tuning (right). On the left side of the radio you have access to the battery compartment (which is a plastic tube with spring contacts permanently installed in the radio cabinet, runs on x4 1.5V "C" cells) and earphone jack, and on the right is your bandswitch for Shortwave, Marine & Broadcast (AM). On the back you have absolutely nothing. On the bottom is some info about the radio and a couple feet, but no visible screws to get into the radio. The front (obviously) contains your tuning dial and Westinghouse crest, and a single 3x5" speaker. You do not get a tone control or dial light or fine tuning with this model. No bells & whistles to speak of.
Thank you. I recently received one, and had a time getting into the battery compartment, but it looks clean. I need to pick up some C cells and test it out.
@@whbeng Yeah. You turn the door to open or close it. I found it kind of a trip at first. Struggled to figure out how to close it. Somewhat unusual for a transistor radio. My set works great aside from a rubbing speaker at higher volumes (this is probably because the dustcap on my unit disintegrated, and some of the dust got into the voice coil gap). Shango066 also had a set (actually it's why I bought one, because it's such a hot AM DX'er). You can see it at 19:23. ruclips.net/video/Cg7-i2LS9DQ/видео.html
Nobody is EVER curious as to how these receive broadcasts, plus there hasn't been anything good on the radio in over 30 years. PLAY a TAPE. That's the appeal and draw to these things. Go buy a cassette and try again! ;)
@@summersky77 I WOULD play a tape...IF the tape desk was WORKING... don't have the time to see what's makin' it play warbly & distorted.
@@brigganthewolf1461 Try giving the pinch roller a good cleaning, these units seem to work fine. I have an RX-C50 (just acquired) and C52S. Both work. I wanted to see if any videos of working units were up. If I were researching prior, Id also want to see it play tapes. ;) Well, hope you get it sorted and enjoy. Cheers.
Sounds amazing, how have you connected the speakers to play via bluetooth, what are those devices in the middle of the table, can you give me the names and models numbers of what they are. thanks
I just took a 3.5mm TRS cable and hooked it up to the "sub" unit. The BT receiver itself is just some rocketfish brand I bought at best buy several years ago. Works fantastic, lots of gain. Below it is a Fosi BT20A (old version) which I use to drive the Visonik David 502 speakers which the CSW sats are sitting on top of. The Davids are supplemented with a Pinnacle Subsonic subwoofer (dual 6-½" version) to supply the low end.
