I’m watching this at 1700 on a Friday, after the hardest weeks of nursing school yet and 12hrs after one of the worst NOC Shifts I’ve had in recent memory, where I lost two patients, one wasn’t surprising but still sad, the other was one of the most devastating code blues (emergencies requiring CPR &/or AED) in recent memory. I’m absolutely crying right now, not bc I’m overwhelmed, but because this speech is so goddamn inspiring & motivating, and gives me hope that I didn’t have beforehand. I’ve already given classmates a pep talk, who wanted to give up before me, and just now it was my turn.

Decades in the military and in a warzone have taught me that pain is not temporary. This type of motivation is not helpful to someone like me. Chronic pain, mental anguish and loss of all hope is where I'm at. I know it will end. I hope for death nearly every moment of the day. I'm allowed to be selfish if i choose. I've done enough for others and the tank is below empty. Just running on fumes. Take care everyone. Best wishes and luck to those who are gonna stay in the game. Hope it's for suckers and prayer is for sinners.
