In this simulation, the residence time distribution is calculated for a 6 Blade Rushton Turbine Stirred Tank and compared with an ideal CSTR. 10 Thousand Particles are injected from the inlet at the start of the simulation. Velocity field is calculated with MRF approach.

This video shows the CFD simulation results for 4 different impeller configurations (6 Blade Rushton Turbine, Smith Turbine, Pitched-Blade Turbine, 45°, up- & down-pumping). For the rotation zone a MRF-approach is adopted. Finally, key dimensionless numbers (Power Number, Flow Number) are compared with literature values.

      @@DefaultMando the meshing itself is done with openfoam, if you look in the video i do the execution in a WSL with openfoam. So parallel execution is no problem.

      It is a GUI for generating dicts for openfoam meshing tool snappyhexmesh. I wrote it by myself. It is a beta pre release version right now.

    Great work! I am also trying to do the same simulation. There is one mesh from default tutorial, but I want to try other meshes, but I am facing some problems with formatting PLOT3D format to OpenFOAM mesh files (not only geometry, also mapping of boundary regions is important for this calculation). So, there is the question: have you tried to do calculation on several grids places on NASA website? I will really appreciate, if you will help me with this problem.

      yes, i did and i didn't have any problems with the mesh provided by NASA. you should download the .p2dfmt files. for converting use: plot3dToFoam n0012.p2sfmt -2D 1 -noBlank. You need to create patches then with: autoPatch 45 -overwrite. Change the patch names in the boundaries-file, and you are ready to go!
