@@gq4362 there is a keyway located on the front of the lock that is on the exterior of the garage door. It is just like the lock that you would find on your front door. You don't need a garage door opener remote. Using a keyed lock means you have to get out of your car. This is a security risk in itself, and anyone who lives in FL can tell you that this is not a viable option during the rainy season. You can get a wi-fi enabled opener or retrofit your existing system with a wi-fi interface, and control your garage door with an app, installable on an unlimited number of devices. That way, you can use the security of your router to make sure no one can capture your remote radio code to open your garage.

This is true. Batteries on the poles should typically last for 3 days. You can use a UPS or generator to power your network. Some network devices are 12V and if done properly, can run from any 12V source such as a car battery. You could also wire any 12V battery to the battery terminals off a UPS to get much longer run times.
