This is a really great video. You mention Dave Partington's book but it seems to be out of print now. Just wondering if perhaps you know where I can still get it? I've tried the GFS shop and searched on eBay etc but just not available anywhere. Many thanks.
Lewis must be the foremost practitioner of the Formby style alive today.
I have an Eddie Uttley electric guitar. Looks similar to a Gibson SG. The most wonderful instrument I have ever owned. He didn't build it for me, but I bought it off the guy who had it commissioned as far as I'm aware.
Excellent video. Could you possibly consider covering the solo of Leaning on the Lamppost please👍
Hi. Not really got the time at the moment. I would check out Lewis Clifton’s videos as he is the master👍🏽
Be great if you could get the book.
Can't seem to find this book, doesn't appear to be in the GFS shop
Another genius explaining things so clearly, while I look on with my mouth open in concentration..Thanks so much for de mystifying
Well thats 12.09 minutes ill never get back
More fool you for sticking with it for 12 mins then
Fascinating video, thanks for sharing! Never knew Fred Dibnah played the uke 😊
"Millimetres" NOT "Milly"."Milly" is a girl's name which can also be spelt "Millie". Then he changes from "10 or 12 Milly" to "10 to 12 inch".
And your point?
If you are explaining something then explain it properly.
@@ricban1950 it's explained perfectly well, however we weren't catering for the levels of stupidity that you clearly operate at.
Hi DAVE . Are they music notes🤔
Eddie is a wonderful craftsman. He built an Electric Upright Bass for me in 1996 - it’s a wonderful instrument which he lovingly constructed having never built one before. I always get great comments when I play gigs about it’s superior tone and beautiful looks. Thanks Eddie
This is brilliant and helps to breathe life into the brilliant book.
Great video, I've got a Ludwig Wendall Hall that I'm hoping to get Eddie to set up the action for us after the November 2018 convention, can't wait, excited.
Great tutorial just starting out but always been a formby fan, great to see how he did it!
Fantastic video! Does anyone have any information on the fishing line Edde is using on this uke please?
Thank you both
I've looked all over the internet and can't find the chords.....can anyone help??
Try the George Formby Society shop on their website, they sell four books there with all the chords in. It might be inbook 3 or 4.
Book 4 song number 16.
Great vid! Thanks! I only got the Partington book last December and I want to do a review as well from Canada.
How do you slot a banjo ukulele bridge properly? Anyone have any idea? The bridge on my Kmise banjuke is slotted terribly and does not hold strings in place. Please help! I want to play it so bad!!!
This is a long shot, but did you figure it out? I just got mine in and the slotting is terrible for the high string
Thanks! I'm going to do a review of that book very soon! It's an amazing book!
what are the chords for the song?
Great playing pairs well with a marvellous uke!
Hello Eddie what should the string height be at the strumming point ?
fincaman2 I was told 3-4mm. Personal choice really.
Thanks Angus, I found some of your tutorials very helpful
Shear Brilliance !
FABULOUS PLAYING , REALLY FAB !!!! The Ludwig, well, what can I say !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worth every Penny
Absolute Wizard !!! Fabulous Lewis
Well done Lewis
Just watching it up close like this, his hand looks inhumanly fast doing the shakes!
Great video breaks it done perfectly
Great playing guys, would like to know what types of uke banjo's you're playing as I am looking to get one greetings Edward
Fantastic video
This is a brilliant tutorial thanks for putting it on
Glad you like it Edward, happy playing.
Scottish Formby Group I am a huge fan of George formby, Just learning to play my first uke a sheraden ukulele banjo just learning the split stroke still to do the triple and the fan
Brilliant video
Brilliant playing
My right ear enjoyed this. ;)
And not your left?!
Scottish Formby Group The audio is a bit... Broken. It only plays through my right headphone, and my headset is working fine hehehe.
Fantastic uke player.
Oh Muther! - See you in June Lewis...
Took me a while to work out who you were Steve....😉
+Scottish Formby Group Yeah, it's me...
Hehehe, I'm gonna steal a couple chord sequences off of these, lol, much better than what I had devised!
That's what it's all about 😀👍
Thanks Scotty learning this one now Stuart
Good stuff Stuart, good luck with it. Nick
Hmmmm, something appears to be wrong with my banjo-uke: I have a Countryman DUB1, chinese, and when I play the E string on the first fret, it buzzes, but none other does....
great been trying to get this for ages
Hope it helps.
well played lewis.
I think this is brilliant. The explanation of all the different "syncopation strokes" that you put up on the board is really good and clear. It is great if you want to add rhythmic variation to strumming, on Ukulele, not only if you just want to learn George Formby solos also.
4:39 yes it is the tune "Whispering". Nice, thanks.
Great video. I'm wondering with Eddie's set up what's the ideal string height at the 12th fret, and also on the vellum where the neck meets the rim? Any tips appreciated.
Found out a little more about that Ukulele that my mate has . Turns out that when George came aboard ship to entertain the crew . He brought the Ukulele with him to Raffle off and my mates Granddad won it ! The Tickets were a Tanner ,(Six Pence)
Thanks for reply Eddie ,good job I did not try taking it apart ! Been trying play Scruggs Stile but not easy ,it was only a thought .I'm really on the look out for a nice banjolele ! would like an old one to renovate ,Problem is i'm in my mid 70s and not much cash , so have to get a move on ! but seeing you Guys along with Young stars like Lewis Clifton really gives me the buzz lol. a mate of mine who is a good Guitarist ,when I told him I wanted a Banjolele told me he had one in the loft ! his granddad had given it to him yrs ago But he wont let me have it . Now then , what he told me next I thought may be of interest to The George Formby clubs ,Apparently his Granddad served on an Aircraft Carrier in the Navy 2nd WW and George came aboard to entertain the crew ,granddads Uk has a picture of George on the neck and George Autographed it for him ! he wants to know if it would worth much ?
Try contacting Lewis Clifton, archivist of the George formby society, he might be able to help you there. By the way, we just did this video of Eddie, it's not actually Eddie advising you here lol..cheers Nick.
I have a Banjo ! would it be possible to swap the neck and convert it to a Ukulele
Not really Anthony no....the head is way too big on a banjo.
thanks for all your replies guys ! as think I may have said I'm in my 70s and mad keen to start playing a ukulele aint got much cash ,so looking for a good old one I can strip and rebuild ! thats the sort of thing I like doing
Superb, Lewis!
