A lot of the time when we train we use what we have to hand, and with the stick you often see students... myself included…. using a weapon that’s the wrong length or weight and this can really dictate how you use it. Combining hard and soft is one of the major incentives of shaolin systems thats why they are shown a lot of times with these bamboo sticks in order to channel power through the weapon that bursts only on the tip.

    In India are similiar devices existing called SPINAL CORD WEAPON! Aka Vajrayuda, for this you would need to cut the sections, make them hollow to put some steel wire inside and put them back together maybe with rubber disks in between. A feather steel core would allow to screw to top piece to the steel core.

    • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan 19 дней назад

      Interesting, although I know I said that I used a steel core for this stick... it isn't supposed to have one. It's just a stick made from wood. I didn't have any wood available for the size I needed, and this was a test piece, so I stuck it together with the steel bar to give it some strength. There are so many interesting weapons out there and I'm sure there are some fantastic variations of steel infused sticks. This one is just a stick... or at least it should be.

    • @FuryoTokkosho

      @@borgiskhan Regarding the argument Bagua and Xing Yi then a flexible core would make no sense. These arts seek for weapons that exploit the force of linear or straight impact to heighten the force, thats why ba gua has the giant dao or xing yi the needles. If the design were meant for these then it would be left one piece hollowed in the middle which would be filled with a heavy oil or steel balls or something like that to shift the point of balance in favor for the hit.

    • @FuryoTokkosho
      @FuryoTokkosho 19 дней назад

      @@borgiskhan Regarding the square design, lets say flexible is relative, if you look at the Mozo Bamboo spears that were used for war, they are just flexible in so far that they are able to absorb or transfer. The tip moves this way at best max. 5 inch. Really flexible weapons like a jian that is able to bend 90 to 180° would be no shaolin anymore rather a wudang thing.

    You sure, that the things is done right? I read about Jiang Rong Qiao who taught Mizhong Whip, sword, spear, and Qinna, that this whip, is flexible cane made by wrapping flexible steel with wood. So i guess it would need to look at the sections more like bamboo pipes that get slimmer to the top and are put into each other as flexible sections. Probably working similiar to the world war 1 trench clubs

    • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan 19 дней назад

      This was made from Master Lu Jun Hai's specifications, (he literally drew it and gave me the measurements), he's been training in Mizong for nearly 80 years, (I've trained directly under him for over 25 years) and he was happy with it. The stick is square so there's no way it could be flexible. I'm sure there are many variations of gun from different lineages, we have a few of different lengths in ours and to be fair some weapons are lost to time. I know that Master Lu's father used to share techniques with Jiang Rong Qiao who was more well known for his Bagua and Xing Yi, so if it was the same type of stick, I'm sure we would know.

    • @FuryoTokkosho
      @FuryoTokkosho 19 дней назад

      @@borgiskhan As long as you are happy with it its fine, just wanted to point cause the design of useless sections would this way make more sense too. Although hope you are not going with this all knowing master stuff etc. cause most chinese sources regard themselves that they just have fragments left cause of so many people dying in battle, prisons etc.

      No, the Wikipedia page is pretty poor in its information and focuses more on Mizong Luohan than Mizong quan. Now I think some Xing Yi systems may use a Mizong Quan taolu or 2 but not the full Mizong system which is quite extensive. Chinese martial artists were known for sharing techniques and taolu as my instructor and his father did. These websites have much better information if you want to find out about Mizong/Yanqing: mizongkungfuandtaichi.weebly.com/mizong-kung-fu.html or taipinginstitute.com/yanqingmen-%e7%87%95%e9%9d%92%e9%97%a8/

    The exaggerated movement wasn't for application more han teaching range of motion and improve limberness and fluidity. The rehearsal of cooperative technique was for body feel or familiarization. It's not much different than Silat Sambut or Goju Ryu Bunkai. Don't lose focus of the bigger forest by focusing too much upon a single tree.

    • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan 7 месяцев назад

      Indeed, 2 persons sets are a very good midway point between single person taolu and sparring, as you said they can teach the body mechanics and flow between techniques in a controlled way, and I believe this is the main focus. But they can also be trained and performed in different ways depending on what outcome you are looking for at the time. The difference between a performance for display and studying the effectiveness and failure points of techniques looks very different. Our Yanqing jia is a similar case where it can last from 25 minutes to over and hour depending on what your training focus is at the time.

    So why is it called "lost track"?

    • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan Год назад

      An extract from our website may explain it "It is often claimed that Mizong may date back as far as the Tang dynasty. Some say it was created in the Shaolin Temple by a monk named Lu Junyi who fused Shaolin techniques with neigong. This master is said to have become famous both for his skills and for his unwillingness to take on students. The legend says that a young man called Yan Qing joined his household as a servant and spied on Lu while he was practising, secretly studying and copying him. One day while working in the fields, Yan Qing was forced to defend himself and the other servants when they were attacked by bandits. His secret was out, but rather than scold him Lu Junyi rewarded him by taking him as his sole disciple and training him properly. Yan Qing eventually took many followers himself, which they called Yanqing Quan in his honour, but were forced to change the name to Mizong Quan or “secret sect boxing” when they considered that both he and Lu Junyi were hiding from the authorities at the famous Water Margin bandit hideout of Lian Shang. Whilst hiding there he is said to have once evaded capture by leading the government troops who pursued him through a confusing maze of false trails. This is why one branch of the family writes the art in the characters Mizong Yi, or the “art of lost track”. This name is also often offered as being an allusion to the footwork in Mizong, which is deliberately deceptive." mizongkungfuandtaichi.weebly.com/mizong-kung-fu.html

      Unfortunately, there is so much that is lost. We can only go back as far as Sun Tong historically, and even his story, ending up in the Shaolin monastery, sounds very similar to many martial stories, so how true it is, is anybody's guess.
