Way to go Dave! You’ve certainly motivated me to go faster on the next round of twisters. Please share these with your other colleagues. We’d love to see them beat me too!
This ends up Just Like 1910, The Philadelphia A's defeating the Chicago Cubs in 5 games of the 1929 World Series Championship.
Congratulations Dave. You are making me work on saying these faster! Have a great thanksgiving!!
Back in the day at Jarry Park after Claude Mouton announced John Boccabella the organist Fernand Lapierre would play the theme from the movie The Godfather.
Amazing!! Thank you for sharing this!! 😄
You did great!!!!
That's old.
Old!
I used to live in the bay area. Going to all those games. I remember all those great A's and Raider's teams. Roy Steele truly great. Oakland bad and incompetent city government lost all Oakland teams to greener pastures. Sad!
Roy Steele, the voice of God
Thanks, Tom. Your tutorials - especially with some nuanced suggestions - puts you “Announcing the game” videos above most others.
Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. That’s why we put these together, hoping it can be helpful somehow to someone!
Now you have women that screech into the microphone triggering men to take out the trash not enjoy the game
Roy was definitely a big part of the Dynasty! One of the greatest if not the greatest PA announcers in sports history. We were so lucky!!!

At the High School level, teams are usually going to have JV players and student Managers that you could probably ask for pronunciations. Are you sure the clock stops in the last 5mins if the score is tied and teams sub? I've never had an official mention that rule; only if a team is winning. For "Time of the Goal", do you follow the same rules when announcing Field Hockey and/or Lacrosse goals? Or do you just mention time elapsed for the specific period? You do not announce "Offsides" for a team? I usually do this because some times fans may not know what's going on and it does give a bit of clarity (Like announcing Traveling in Basketball). For Injuries, I usually announce "Injury on the Play" or "Injury Time Out" just to get the stadium aware and hopefully quiet down. When a player gets up and is walking off the field/pitch I usually say, "Let's hear it for [PLAYER]". So you don't think this is good etiquette? - I think a good video would be a video of you doing several different opening introductions (for various sports) to give ideas on what to do for opening scripts. As for officials, after announcing their names we tell everyone to applaud them for the work they do (something new we added this year). Another video could be things to announce during intermissions and halves. For me, I usually give the upcoming schedule for our team as well as what else my be happening for other athletics in the school (especially if another home team won earlier in the day). I also try to give stat/goal recaps if possible and let people know if there are any concession stands available and who are operating them (Boys soccer team are raising funds by selling food and drinks at the field house). - Another good video :)
Hi Brian. Thank you for the feedback! I've never used JV players or student managers for pronunciations, but they sound like they can be another option to get correct pronunciations. Personally, I've always gone to the coach at this level. This lets me go over other housekeeping things with them as I also get names (and maybe even starters!). For HS, the clock stops in the last 5 minutes if the winning team makes a substitution. I double checked this with the NFHS and some local HS coaches I know. This prevents the winning team to waste time on a running game clock by substituting toward the end of a game. The "time of goal" for soccer (...in the 35th mute...) doesn't carry over to field hockey, or lacrosse. Those sports goals are announced by the time on the clock. I can see your point about announcing offsides, especially as an educational piece to your announcing. I've explained fouls in FH and lax myself, when time allows during games, so I can see your point here. The fans certainly appreciated it! As for injuries, I'm going to stick with saying nothing, or playing no music. I feel that the risk of interrupting any communication on the field related to the injured player far outweighs saying anything. I guess that I would suggest going over this ahead of time with your district's athletic director. Also, a resource officer, that may also be a local police officer may have good insight, since they would work directly with any emergency personnel on scene. I will pass your ideas on about your suggestions for future tutorials. I've announced results of other school's teams at halftime when I did a lot of HS games as well. You're right, it gives some kudos to these other teams and may even generate some fan attendance at upcoming games! Thank you again for taking the time to offer some constructive feedback. We appreciate it! Glad you likes the tutorial! Please feel free to pass on the link to the rest of these videos to your athletic director, or any other PA announcers you know.

Do you have any advice for Soccer Matches? Couldn't find anything on your channel or anywhere else on RUclips :(
Believe it or not, sir, we are in editing and production on the Soccer vid. It will be out by the end of the week.
Great video. I am entering my 4th season of announcing high school football and just came across this video. You gave me some great ideas for this new season. My biggest challenge so far was calling a fog bowl last year on the final game. It rolled in 30 min before kickoff and I couldnt see the down marker or the entire far side of the field. Thanfully the fog lifted by halftime but that was ....interesting :)
Hey Joe, Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad that this was helpful for you! I don't know what I could've said to help with a fog bowl though! You'll have to tell me how it went.
@@tomwiniecki3057 Me and my spotter had to count the yards and hope we were right. When a play went to the far side to the field I relied on the refs to see where they spotted the ball to know if it was a first down or not. Luckily I was able to see who took the handoff as pass plays for both sides unless they were within 5 yards became impossible. Hope to never have that experience again..LOL
Roy Steele, awesome! Those A's uniforms are beautiful!
this was New England's first real win for the National Football League before the New England Patriots in 2002.
This was Detroit's first ever Championship win. The Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago Cubs, 4 games to 2 in 1935 as their payback to 1907 and 1908
Perfect World Series to People loving Judy Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis and the St. Louis Cardinals
I felt Happy for the St. Louis Cardinals winning The World Series of 1942 against the New York Yankees.
The Brooklyn Dodgers' first ever World Series Win in 1955 against the New York Yankees came within months of Lady and the Tramp's Original Theatrical Release.
I'm guessing there were no loudspeakers in those days. More likely a fellow with a megaphone.
The PA System goes back to 1913 but, yes, 99% would have been on a megaphone. You can see a bit more about all this here: www.publicaddressannouncer.org/history-of-pa-announcing/
Fun video
This was really the first time ever that a sports team would ever get to sweep the championship series, although many people thought that 1914 would be the first thanks to the Miracle Boston Braves defeating Philadelphia in a 4 game series.
1972 year I was born ..and when baseball was baseball...football was football ..and USA Was USA ...SOCIETY WAS BETTER THEN
Great video with practical and useful info! thanks!
I'm glad that you were able to find this helpful! That's why we are doing this!!
Nice upload!
The Voice of God. RIP Mr. Steele.
The Dodgers beat the Giants, 21-7, in front of 55,051 fans at the Polo Grounds. (The Giants would lose to the Bears in the NFL championship game two weeks later, 37-9.)
Native Americans were playing with the league also they were called the Oorang lndians.🎉
Odd that Baugh was listed as a halfback. What happened to the listed quarterback, Riley Smith?
This will come as a grand surprise to many but... Sammy Baugh was, in fact, a halfback. Riley Smith busted a blood vessel above his knee in an August 1938 exhibition game between the Redskins and the College All-Stars on August 31, 1938. The Redskins lost to the Cecil Isbell led All-Stars, 28-16. It was such an embarrassing lost for the defending champions that they hustled directly on to their bus after the game. Smith did not know this until the next day but, he injured his leg during the game. He did not play again until October against the Lions. In November, Smith was knocked unconscious twice in the same game against the Chicago Bears. He could take no more. The leg injury, in particular, had taken its toll. On December 9, Riley Smith retired and took a backfield coaching job for Washington and Lee. Most considered him the best player in football, better than Baugh, for the 2 1/2 seasons he played. The team regarded him as the brains behind their success and a brilliant play caller. Everyone on the team referred to him as "General".
Got called to fill in (D1 college) with 24 hours notice, never having done this sport. Really appreciate your tutorial! 👏👏👏👏👏
My father is John Schneller, RE #12 from Wisconsin, so I know a little bit about this team and players. I'm surprised if it was factual that Hall of Fame Earl"Dutch" Clark #7 from Colorado School of Mines didn't start at LHB instead.of F..Christianson.. My father never mentioned it, but if true do you know why Clark didn't start?
First, Glenn Presnell and Dutch Clark spent much of the time trading off on Quarterback duties. So, since they swapped, not too big of surprise Presnell started then Clark entered. Frank Christensen was more of a blocking back and punter. The Lions considered Frank their #1 blocking back so, of course, he got the start as he normally did. Presnell and Clark were scorers, Christensen blocked. In fact, Clark was the NFL leading scorer in '35 w 55 points. How did they often get there? Christensen was blocking. So, the point is that it was never a choice between Clark and Christensen. It was a choice between Clark and Presnell. Plus, the Lions expected much punting. Frank was their punter. The Lions averaged about 13 punts per game. They expected as much in the title game. Ken Strong, the Giants' punter, was the best in football at the time. Frank practiced extra punts just for the game. Interesting stuff. Hope my response was accurate and helped.
Must've been tough.
What a dud this guy was.
First time High School Baseball announcer starting this spring. I fount this extremely helpful! many Thanks.
Me too! Good luck!
Thanks! Same to you. @@phoenixbrown15
Should be put at 95% speed to be how it was live. Great tribute to the man nonetheless.
In DII the SID doesn't travel with the team. The SID I work for doesn't allow me (as a volunteer) to contact the visiting team. He does it all. Same goes with the scripts.
I had no idea there was an NFL team named Dodgers.. Who knew!! But they could block!
Just fantastic explanations. We are appreciative of your instructional words:)
I'm happy this is helpful for you! I'm glad to hear that the explanations were clear and compete. Please let me know what you'd like to see in upcoming videos.
This was a very educational video, thank you! I recently started doing the PA for boys and girls high school basketball and appreciated the level of detail you went into. I also appreciated your points on sportsmanship towards the guest team and establishing respect for the referees. Thanks again!
I'm so glad that this was helpful for you! That's why we are doing this! This is a sport that I've played, coached, officiated and announced, so I can see it from all those perspectives and use that in my announcing, not only for basketball, but for all the sports I announce. Again, thanks for your feedback.

No it’s real en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1884_World_Series
In 1935 this fight was as big as a Super Bowl is today. No question.
