Experienced same weird whining noise yesterday while going uphill then it never stopped. Gets stronger while accelerating. As if somebody installed an additional electric motor for no reason. 😅 In my case for my Honda Civic 2009 Auto, the solution came out to be the transmission fluid level to be too low though I've changed it last year at 150k. What they did was that they poured the exact same amount and over time it burnt out though I bought the Genuine Honda ATF DW-1.(Lasted only 35k) Let the car rest overnight, drained all transmission fluid elevated and flat on ground to get all oil out. Filled the transmission with 4L Penrite ATF Full Synthetic( recommanded for Honda Civic before 2011). Don't go with 2.4L, it's a fake recommendation. Let engine run few mins, gear shift to all positions. Voilà! Problem solved!

This happened to my Honda Civic 2008 LX as well. The issue was due to low power steering fluid. Topped up the power steering fluid and the issue disappeared.

Yo man, I have the exact same sound. If it helps any, I crashed my car into my neighbors lawnmower the day that sound arose. I DEMOLISHED that lawnmower though. Couldn't even see it in my rearview mirror. UPDATE: I haven't been able to find his lawnmower, but my car has been making that noise ever since. I hope I find my neighbor's lawnmower.

I removed some power steering fluid and added a bottle of AT-205 and whining noise is gone

Its bcoz of power oil is lower than its level.

I got the same noise. I changed power steering fluid and inspect for any leakage. But didn’t find any leakage nor fluid shortages either.. can that be automatic transmission?

I have the same problem but it happened after i added the steering oil...can anyone explain please?

My car JUST started making this sound today after some sharp cornering. I was stressed out thinking it was something big. I am taking it to my mechanic on Monday and will get him to top it up / check it out. Thank you for this!! I feel much better.

My Integra is making a noise like that, which increases with speed. I've ruled out a lot of things but wondering about the power steering - a while ago when it was super cold (zero degrees), I lost p/s at times but I thought it was just due to the weather. Maybe a failing pump? If so I am not too worried about it, you can easily go without p/s if needed.
