A crazy chicken lady and an old goat bought a 4 acre farm in Wheatley, Ontario, Canada. This page is to share the successes and challenges of our adventures.

A cooler, rainy summer day on the farm!

It has been HOT!!! Today we have temps of 68F/20C today. That’s close to 10degrees C cooler than ten days ago!! All the animals are enjoying the cooler weather.
A new calf is born!!

Finally!! Yoko had a little heifer calf. (Heifer=female) Yoko was purchased from a farm in December 2023 as a pasture bred mature cow. (By a bull named Bozo!) Pasture bred means a bull was released into a pasture with a number of cows and at some time after August 1st she was bred. A cows gestation is 9 months. It’s been a long wait!
Levi is not happy to be in a different pasture ….

We have had a new calf born 5 days ago. I want to give mama and baby some time to bond. As well I want the calf strong enough to get away from Levi if he starts playing too rough. He is not impressed!

We made a bunch of desserts today! Peach cobbler Oatmeal, craisin, butterscotch chip, spice cookies Apple strawberry crumble All with the “help” of my 3 year old granddaughter! 😆
Rabbit room cleaning time

At least annually we do a full cleaning in the rabbit room . It is a lot of work. You would think the rabbits would appreciate it more. 😆
Yoko is almost ready to calf

We have been waiting a while for Yoko to calf. She was pasture bred. That means a bull was put in a pasture with a large number of cows and nature is left to happen. It appears that Yoko was bred mid October 2023. The gestation for cows is 9 months.
Planting in the back 4

I have a small strip of land that is dedicated to planting anything I feel like planting. I call it the back 4. It has red clover, daisies, horseradish, borage, scrub trees, aspen, bur oak, willow, mulberry and many others… Today I planted the horseradish and elderberry l, as well as a wildflower mix.

That is one of happiest cows I have seen in a long time.

Socializing piglets is an important part of raising them … they don’t always like it, but when they are 300lbs and you need them to do something, it sure helps if they are socialized early on😊
I think you should let the piglet go as she is very distressed.-

Nope …. Just drama from a kit…. I’ve been breeding for 10 years and you always get one who goes all drama…. He is almost 3 months old now and doing fine
Take note if a rabbit is screaming like that it's hurt
