Yes the tempo here is very much i think on point with the energy of the intention. Ive heard many versions..usually way too fast..absolute brilliance in many dimensions
The first time I heard this was in a sci-fi movie called Zardoz directed by John Boorman and starring Sean Connery, and I was hooked ever since. I think I was 19 or 20. Ahh! Beethoven. Absolutely heavenly.
¿A qué invita?
I had this movement playing on a boom box in the delivery room when my daughter was born. I wanted the first thing she heard on this earth to be Bernstein conducting Beethoven's 7th. She was born during the allegretto.
You see , Tempo in music is a "range". It's not a fixed value on physics standarts. So , even if the composer creates some Alegretto, it gets a full range of interpretations of bps to do it. And, FOR HELLS SAKE this timing of Bernstein is absolutelly a perfection. Like the classic concerto n°1 for violin in A minor from Bach that if you go too rush, you just ruin it, this is a movement that if you go too fast or too slow, you RUIN it. And I think Bernstein was the only one to nailed the perfect tempo for this. It's a march, almost, but not a funneral march... it's slow, but not melancholly, not sad, it's slow, but graddually grows, gradually in intensitty... as an ascencion! I've never look at this as a sad movement, but as an ascending evolving composition! It's like I see the entire conection and meaning of the universe on the ending violins (you can call it god too) within the entire greatness of life itself! (Ps.: I'll write about this trip on my blog, 'cause I love this! Life is just too wonderfull for you to not to write what you like and what you think that this would make humanity better)
The pull back in tempo adds a new emotion to how I perceive the whole composition.... Beethoven genius layered with Bernstein genius. My heart sees the horrors of 1813 every time i hear this...and hopes anew that we dont repeat in the 21st century
Will someone learned in these matter please answer my question? Most players are looking at their music and NOT at Lenny. Is this unusual or customary?
2025.

Bernstein isn’t conducting as much as he is living the music.
Sublime
My favorite Beethoven Symphony, for certain
Magnifico!!! Ars longa, vita brevis!
Oh my …so deep…I m crying…😢❤ directly
Perfect perfect tempo & insight of the essence of the 2nd movement
Nagyon szép Beethoven alkotás, a felvételben volt kis hullámzás, de így is csodaszép, köszönöm.

A piece of music that makes you feel powerful and pathetic in equal measure.

It is Moderato not Allegretto .He messed it up.
This piece moves me because of it's beauty and the way it grows from soft to loud and then back down. Brilliant works. Thanks Beethoven!❤
Maravilloso

Lo que escribiste no fue un comentario. Fue un poema.
Thank God for this correct tempo.
Yessssss almost the only one.
Best performance/interpretation. He gets it. Music has meaning, purpose, phrasing, feelings, and much to say.. He captures this.

Best 7th ever. Maestro plays Genius.
"You were right, Smith. You were always right. It was inevitable."

Smart!! What an amazing idea! I didn't think of that with my daughter. Boh. Looks like I'm gonna have to have another child sometime soon ;)
slow and solemn boys... slow and solemn
Love this❤
I agree with so many other listeners. This piece is pure emotion. Bernstein doesn't race through it like the rest.
Magnifique interpration
The 2nd movement ends with a phrase asking a question. This question is resolved by the war-like movements of 3 and 4.
❤ Beethoven 🎩 Bernstein 🎩
How can you not love Beethoven! And Mr. Bernstein was like a shepherd leading his sheep-beautiful!
Still so hauntingly beautiful in 2023

Perfect tempo and expressiveness for a funeral dirge. Magnificent.
Too bad the quality on this' only 360p :/
Beethoven Masterpiece and Master Performance by Bernstein 🌟
This version is my personal favorite because of the tempo. Sometimes this piece is done too quickly, but this is just right.
"allegretto??"
@@johnduke40 Allegretto, un modo di dire canzonatorio, quasi allegro ma con ampi margini di riflessione.
Only Bernstein understood Beethoven. Best conductor for this composer.
Very Beautiful…
Tune 2023
Beautiful
When was this recorded?
