Amazing to hear and see all the hard work you have been doing, this study so difficult to play and you mastered it! Well done.
Thanks for all the support! It means a lot coming from you! I'll keep up the practicing and hopefully I will make more progress!! Thanks!!
How? Good job bro
Nicely done! Almost perfect! Just make sure not to rush and play with metronome, slow practice always first 🎉
Excellent work~!
Excellent!
Thanks so much! I am still trying to get the Fugue up to this. Thanks for listening!
My pleasure. Such a thrilling piece!@@SergeiRachmaninoff01
Does anyone have information about his brother Luis (Lewis) Kottler? I recently discovered that he is my biological maternal grandfather. I know there is a story there, but i really have no real information. I know he played violin and cello in chicago and detroit.
reminds me of some Volodos arrangements, very nice
The tempo fluctuations are incredible. Each phrase has a pulse, like a real breathing human. Always give and take and then back to the established tempo. Recently my daughter, Kathryn Parks, just posted a live interview with him on public TV where he plays and you can watch this piano giant in action! ruclips.net/video/_ciLm5q8vg0/видео.html

Wonderful i love it!!!♥️♥️
lovely! i’m learning this right now
Lovely work, Joseph! I have enjoyed listening to you play! Blessings!
Joseph, such a vast improvement in your playing and performance skills, since I last had the pleasure of listening to you play, aided as they are here by your teacher Gerald Goslin accompanying you. It is a well conceived interpretation, vibrant and full of Haydnesque buoyancy. Congratulations! It has been a complete pleasure! Blessings to you and Maestro Goslin!
Excellent!
Thank You Mr. Paul Barton! That's very kind of you to say! This one was helpful to start developing technique throughout the 'Entire Hand'; that's how I look at it
Mr.Paul please record Czerny Op.756 Etude 10 and 21 please!!

Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much for posting this beautiful piece that Mischa KOTTLER PLAYED. Studied piano with him and was thrilled to listen to this wonderful recording.!
Brilliant--played by a man who mastered life as well as music
It is probably Antal Dorati conducting the Detroit Symphony. He was music director at the time, although it could have been a guest conductor.
Although he did perform regularly at Wayne State's CAA during this time period, this particular performance is recorded at Ford Auditorium with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1980. The WSU orchestra was pretty good, but not this good! Mischa Kottler was 80 years old at the time of the recording! (1899-1994) He had performed the same work with the DSO in the 30s. Mischa was the most prominent pianist and teacher in the Detroit area for 50 years or so. He had a huge repertoire of concerti, solo repertoire, and chamber music and performed often with the DSO and other local orchestras as well as in solo recital performances. He was DSO staff pianist for a number of years, chairman of the piano division at Wayne State University and music director at WJR AM 760 for many years when it was a classical music station. He had his own Steinway model D moved to Ford auditorium from his 2nd floor studio at his home on Fairfield near 7 Mile Road and Livernois for this performance. The piano was given to him by WJR. I think he played the Rachmaninoff 3rd three times that weekend including a Friday matinee. I was fortunate to study with him for many years and spent time in several lessons with him showing me some of the challenging sections of this piece during the time he was preparing for this performance. He especially emphasized the passage at 6:53-6:58 and 7:11-7:22 as being tough, and enjoyed demonstrating how other prominent pianists resorted to simplifying it.

@@dsoworks501 Thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea this interview existed. He often told these and other stories in his lessons, which could go for a couple of hours. I never had the foresight to write anything down, so this interview is truly a gift for any of us who knew him. So many memories come flooding back. It is wonderful to hear his beautiful touch and tone, exquisite phrasing, and his authentic sense of the Russian Romantic style once again. Thanks again.
I believe around 1980 at Wayne State's community arts auditorium

Ford Auditorium, Detroit, Michigan. 1980 Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Antal Dorati conducting
How wonderful to hear this. I had the tremendous privilege of studying with him for 2 years. What an amazing pianist and teacher.
I heard him give the whole "Third" with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, he was a tremendous performer and woefully under-appreciated. His rendition was greatly superior to that of Horowitz. Kottler agree'd to be my teacher; sadly it was a form of "hate at first sight" for both of us.
Kotter presented me at 18 at the Art Intstitute in a debut recital. Kotter knew Rachmanioff. He would say,This is Rachmanioff's fingerings.
I'm so pleased to hear this. I too miss Mischa. He was my teacher for nine years and my mom's for 16 years. Thank you for posting this.

Meraviglioso!!!
Wonderful playing! There is no divide between the performer and the music. Thank you!
I love it! There's no affectation whatsoever, just genuinely fine musicianship. Beautiful playing!
Elegant playing!
THANK YOU!
Thank you very much!
This is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!! so is your Rach 2 haahahha Cannot wait for your Rach 3!!
Thank you- its one of my personal favorites :). Yes wasn't it Hoffman's only video recording? It is very amazing.
You understand the breadth of it. Your body of sound is commendable. I like it. It's a little difficult to hear through the crackles of surface noise. With the lower opening notes at the octave etc, I might tend to lead them to their destination with a dynamic gradation. You might also need to temper the tempo here and there, it can become a little too wayward, but all in all Josef, you do have a fine feeling for this piece at feeling at its most inner region. Have you heard Hofmann play it?
