I am pastor and I think the church (leaders, congregations,etc.) is highly patriarchal and so long as there is a scripture to abuse or stretch then abuse is inevitable.

There are no serious discussions that can be had where an assumption is made that Christianity has been a rational idea to people making any kind of effort to understand the world anytime after 1860.

The need for sexual repression is fueled by STDs and unplanned pregnancy. Instead of banning music that glorifies sex - our own hormones, our minds, our eyes and all of unbroadcasted culture glorify sex. Instead of trying to block the encouragement of sex, include messages about safe sex, good health and birth control.

I have enjoyed the conversation. My take: When a child has to wean off a full-milk diet he doesn't get straight into the pork chops and goat ribs. There's a steady diet he must go through to prep his digestive system for more "grown up" food, and even to allow his teeth to grow enough for him to bite and chew. The weaning is after 6 months of milk. À la 1 Pet. 2:2, crave first the pure milk of the word, THAT YOU MAY GROW THEREBY, then, having grown, go to some solid food. A move from secular to Gospel industry can't be just about skills; the game changes, and God should be an artist's rule book, for one who is now born again. What's He saying? Is He asking you to take time out to marinate in Him before your juices can ooze? Jumping into that ring without seeking His direction is pure recipe for disaster, why an artist will quit and say, It's not what I expected / Too harsh / etc. The narrow streets = death to self, a stripping down (I concur with Thimba!) and that can kill a young believer who isn't adequately prepared for this new battleground. Just because you got born again as a talented secular artist doesn't mean you're in any way ready for true Gospel airwaves, just as an army recruit isn't ready for a war in Somalia by virtue of being signed up to join the army. Ps by "true" I mean your music is more than a few "Jesus" lyrics thrown in hapa na pale. I'm taking God-inspired music.. Newly believing artists should take some time to grow in God, be mentored in their walk, learn to hear Him and experience Him, then pen their music thereafter... It will make a world of difference!

This conversation is necessary. For me it isn't that complicated. Jesus taught the parable of the sower. The goal should be fruit that lasts, not necessarily great hits and fan following. Dear converting artist; You're in a relationship with your public. When you change, be sincere. People can tell. When you fall, get back up. Seek counsel about a fall back plan-a job or a vocation really helps in the humility department & balancing us out to normal. Find a good church and get grounded and don't expect star treatment-set up a few chairs, sweep the church hall, do some Bible study, pray hard out of sight for a year or two. Perhaps God has called you to a ministry in music, pray about that and seek good godly counsel. If they don't love you, don't worry, they crucified Jesus! Godspeed
