This recording is of Clarence Quanbeck and had been added to the tape I have of Grandpa Louie's funeral service from July 17, 1978. Clarence Quanbeck (Louis and Martha's son-in-law) sang this hymn "Oh, Happy Day When We Shall Stand" at the gravesite of both Martha and Louis.

BEAUTIFUL SINGING!!! God Bless You all - Thank you for sharing the Love of our precious Lord Jesus with the world! A listener in Tacoma, Washington :)
I have been thinking of Harald many times in the last few years... He attended LBI Seattle when I was a student there in the mid '60's. He was such a wonderful man of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. Does anyone know if he is still living? I was 20-21 back then and will be 80 in a few months. There are some people that touch your life for good for eternity - Harald was such a Blessing to all of us at the Lutheran Bible Institute!
@@RoxanneMSHarris I have not heard that Harald has died and I know individuals who would probably know if he has. I assume that he is still living, but I can comment again if I hear otherwise. Glad you enjoyed this recording and your time at LBI!
This is amszing!!! 💟☮️
That’s work love the old equipment and trucks
That has to be after 1962.... That Blue Ford was made in 1962. I had one just like that. Learned about Girls in them Straw Piles.
Interesting content. Good ol ways of the good ol days, but its not that interesting without the original audio and/or some narrations to go with it
@@tymz-r-achangin there never was audio for 8mm films like this. Maybe someday there can be some narration
I think it's a bit later than 60. I see a 61 or 62 Fors car in there as well as a newer ford pick up. At this point in time these get togethers were referred to as Reunions. As the majority of the engines and operators were the same ones thar made a living using theses same machines back a few decades.
I'll have to inspect the film itself. Some of it has the month and date it was developed printed on the film edge.
great footage!
My, how far we've come in 64 years.
Is this a steam machine event, or were they still this popular then?
They were just beginning in the 1960s. The Dalton show began in 1954.
Bet that's somewhere near Lake Wobegon.
Once owned by the late Daniel Anderson. This 35hp Buffalo Pitts engine was originally bought new in 1905 by the late Jacob Johnson of Christine, ND. who used the engine for custom threshing for some 28 years. Carl and Joseph Anderson bought the engine in 1938, and it was still in the family and owned by Carl’s son Daniel Anderson until 2014 when it was sold by auction. Except for one year, from 1939 until the spring of 1967 the Andersons used their 1905 Buffalo Pitts engine to thresh grain. The unique part is Andersons always stacked-threshed and always threshed with steam on their farm for 87 years, from 1880 to 1967. Think of this, the Rollag Steam Show had been operating some 12 to 13 years when Andersons quit threshing. During the years the Andersons threshed with their 1905 35hp Buffalo Pitts. They used mainly straw for fuel in firing the engine. Other fuels used have been wood with rubber tires, wood only, but no coal. From 2005 till 2014, it was the only engine fired by straw on the Rollag Showground’s. This 1905 35hp Buffalo Pitts sat idle from 1967 until 1995 when repairs were done before heading for Steamer Hill at Rollag. In 2015, this engine and rebuilt straw and water tender (restored by Daniel and Gerry Stange), was up for auction and was bought by Jered Ruble of Forrest City, IA. The engine stayed on the WMSTR show grounds for another 2 years, then moved to Iowa. This information provided was from excerpts of the article about this 1905 35hp Buffalo Pitts Steam Engine written by Richard Birklid in the 1995 WMSTR Show book and information given from Karl Stange. (From 2001 till 2014, my dad (Gerry), brother Mike (2008), brother Ken, niece Katie, nephew Lucas and myself all had the humble pleasurable oppurtunity to help Daniel with his engine). To all, I hope this helps, Karl Stange.
Very interesting! Had you seen any film footage like this before?
I thought it was the buffalo pitts that was once at rollag. I thought a different family had it. Good information to know.
This is incredible video...I've never seen anything close to this from Dayton archives.
Glad you enjoyed it! I have never lived in Ohio, but I purchased this film on eBay and had it professionally converted because it was so interesting to watch.
The beginning of the end of traditional parade marching in Minnesota. It evolved into mini fieldshows on the street. Not a fan.
The irony is how much smaller downtown was, yet how much more alive it was.
Eu conheco a cidade de Zanesville, Ohio, gostei muito cidade de Aruja. SP, Brazil
There’s a barn down the road I want to move
It's the beginning of the end of straight forward marching in Minnesota parades. Eventually... it evolved into miniature fieldshows that stop and perform. It's my opinion that this type of performance began to require too much rehearsal time and that it hurt the enrollment of many programs. Something has been lost. The drum corp influence took over.
This video is great! I saw my Grandpa and Grandma, Bob and Inez George, and Pat, Loxy, Mona, and Bobby Jr. Thank You!
Check out those side-burns at the 2:37 mark.......
Did they bury a time-capsule???
They buried a pot of beans and cooked them underground. At least that's how it was explained to me.
Nobody could find a bucket to simulate throwing water on the Witch, so they used a "shrinking box" instead?? Weird!!!
The Lion gets extra points for his best "Bert Lahr from Brooklyn" accent/impression.
Interestingly, the director puts "The Jitterbug" in just before the Poppy Field. It is meant to be in ACT II. The Witch sends The Jitterbug out into the Haunted Forest so Dorothy & Friends will be too tired after dancing to fight off the Flying Monkeys. It seems just an "add on" number here. In any event, it was cut from the movie so it wouldn't "date" the movie, and the inclusion of a "jazzy number" interrupted the dramatic build of the scene.
Pastor Roger..what a wonder man of God…..a true blessing.
I'd love to use this in a documentary. Is there a way to reach you directly about that?
I'd have changed that opening blurb to "For nearly one hundred years," etc.
🙏🙏lutherans are stubborn but good people
strange to think that if you went to an old car show today, most cars there would've been built after this was filmed. Goes to show how quickly "new" becomes "old"
Those are Connecticut plates on the cars....interesting to see all the "New" cars in the background
Interesting, looks like it was a car show, looking back at all those old automobiles from earlier on in the 20th century!
Yes, I would agree that's what it was. Very different than car shows of today!
Terrific! Really interesting!
Any idea where this took place??
Somewhere in the eastern US, I think. It was in a case of family movies I bought on eBay.
Cool
my Great Aunt and Uncle.
I grew up in Dayton in the 60s and seventies and left in 1980 , I went back after 45 years and I couldn't believe what has happened to my home town ,I seen a short lil vid you showing the witch's tower ,as we knew it back then as Frankensteins castle , my girlfriend and I would go there late at nite ,sometimes, that's when it was open and could hardly get to it for all the over growth of trees and bush's , and a muddy Rocky trail ,thank you for posting ,it did my old heart good ,I'll be visiting again soon to visit , my high school sweethearts grave ,buried not far from carolton park . ❤️Love your post and thank you ❤️kiser high : GO PANTHERS ❤️ In loving memory for 💐🙏Christine strausburg 😔💐🙏
Is the title of this, "The Elite Posers" ? Pretty disgusting to me.... Thanks for showing this, You Tube....., that's a like
It would be cool to do an overlay of then and now!
This is do amazing!!
Wonderful to hear you singing again. You stayed at our home in Oregon. ‼♥‼
Yeah, a quarter century in the past, but more recent productions could learn a thing or two from this! Points for: solid musicianship; the farmhands not speaking as if they lived in Dogpatch (that's from "Li'l Abner", kids) instead of Kansas; originality for Professor Marvel (but see below); a live dog (always risky!); performers who know how to open their mouths and project instead of relying too heavily on the mics; the simple but evocative cyclone object movements; mostly good, sometimes excellent, singing and dancing for the principle characters; the well-made Tin Man costume that looks like genuine metal even to to the skin makeup; some fun alterations in the Lion's song; the old-school Jitterbug choreography (though I think the number usually works better in the song-deprived second act); good use of the aisles; juggling in the Merry Old Land of Oz; restoration of the reprise of Ding Dog The Witch Is Dead; good Wizard, though not being at all the same as Professor Marvel slightly misses the point (why introduce Professor Marvel at all?-just have Dorothy return home when she realizes the danger the storm poses to her family); the Over the Rainbow chorus for the curtain-call was lovely. Point deduction for someone (it's often the director, not the actor) insisting on the Lion channeling Bert Lahr's accent (fading some over time), marring an otherwise animated and audience-pleasingly amusing performance.
Thanks for putting these on. Brings back great memories from Ray Public School!!!!
Wonderful to hear this. I so enjoyed being part of both choruses.
Thanks for doing this. I remember doing this my junior year. I have the album but not sure where!
You are very welcome, Kathy!
This is not the 1996 parade. It is 1995. The announcer says 1995 when he announces the grand champion at 1:53:29.
Thank you, I wasn't positive. I will correct this.
My goodness, they somehow managed to make 'Professor Marvel;' entertaining. That scene is normally drab but this was delightful.
In the MGM film, the only purposes the scene serves are to persuade Dorothy to return home, and to introduce Frank Morgan to become one (or more) of the characters in Dorothy's dream of Oz (the Wizard, Guardian of the Gate, Cabbie…). Here, there are different actors for the Kansas and Oz characters (because it's impractical to do the costume changes for the last scene-though the WIzard could be an exception, just changing the coat!) and so the Marvel scene just adds time to an already lengthy framing prologue (remember, MGM almost cut 'Over the Rainbow' from the film because it was too much time watching 'that little fat girl' singing). I quite agree, this Professor Marvel is entertaining, but the only reason she's there at all is because there is a Professor Marvel in the film.
Great video. I think this was 1943 as the Jefferson Memorial, seen under construction in the video, was built in 1943.
It was actually started in 1938 and dedicated in 1943. This film was labeled as 1938.
Marched in a few of these parades myself in the late 80's. Thanks for sharing.
The skies were so blue! Before chem trails…. I wish I was born in the 40s
So much has changed. Surprised not much footage on amusement park. It was on the West side of Dayton.
