Weaving the Handspun Acrylic Throw
In this video I demonstrate weaving a throw using an acrylic commercial spun black warp and an acrylic hand spun variegated weft. This project was set at 10 epi/10 ppi and woven using Draft #149 from Carol Strickler's book "A Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns". Final dimension are 42" wide x 56" long (including Fringe).
If you would like to purchase this throw you can find it in my Etsy Shop tangledwebsweaving.etsy.com/listing/1834911951/handwoven-throw-56-x-42-with-fringe

Amaryllis in Winter Scarf Weaving
Просмотров 9654 месяца назад
In this video I weave a scarf using an overshot weave structure. The pattern is called "Amaryllis in Winter" and is from the Jan/Feb 2017 issue of Handwoven Magazine. The warp and tabby weft is a 60% silk/40% wool laceweight (6,400 ypp) and the pattern weft is an 8/2 100% reeled silk laceweight (2,790 ypp). I had enough warp to make 2 scarves so the second scarf uses 20/2 Wool for the pattern w...
Weaving Overshot & The Amaryllis in Winter Scarf
Просмотров 5545 месяцев назад
In this video I explain how to weave overshot and the problems I ran into while trying to weave a pattern from the Jan/Feb 2017 Handwoven Magazine called "Amaryllis in Winter". The pattern is a kit from Treenway Silks and specifies a 60/4 Silk/Wool for the warp & tabby weft and 8/2 100% Reedled Silk for the pattern weft. The warp is set at 28 epi and the pattern says to weave at 22 ppi (11 ppi ...

This is the final video in the series where I weave 8 drafts out of the Strickler 8-Shaft Pattern book. I cut the finished cloth off the loom, measure and record the width & length of each weave structure, wet finish the cloth and re-measure each one to find the rate of shrinkage. Weaving Strickler 8 Shaft Draft 13 Irish Poplin
Просмотров 3376 месяцев назад
This is the seventh (and final) draft I'm weaving on this warp from "The Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns" by Carol Strickler. The draft is #13 (Irish Poplin). The warp is a white 8/2 cotton. The weft is purple and pumpkin 8/2 cotton. And I tried a little hack by using the partial tub of purple yarn directly in my boat shuttle as a bobbin! This is set at 20 epi and 20 ppi. Very pretty work and interesting techniques. I did not realize that I needed a fringe twister device until now.
Thank you so much for the kind words. You don't have to use a fringe twister (plenty of people twist by hand) but I don't have the patience to twist by hand 🤣. Happy Weaving!
Great video and i might finally understand a weaver’s knot!! I agree cuts out finding threading errors!! Thanks
I'm glad you found it helpful. Happy weaving ❤️
@ have you considered using painters tape the back stick threads so they don’t shift around as you pull one thread? It’s been a problem for me and it just occurred to me while watching your video.
That's a really good idea. If i put the painters tape on before I cut the project off it would keep them all in order. Thanks for the suggestion! Happy Weaving.
@ I just thought of it and will try it myself !!
Grace, I love these napkins so much I purchased the last three and purchased the pdf draft from you so I could make more. Would you be willing to share the wif file from iWeave it with me? If you are willing to do so, I’ll send you an email…I have your card from the purchase. You packaged it so pretty. Thank you for taking the time to do so…it’s such a nice touch! Jill
Thank you so much for purchasing the napkins and the pattern Jill. Yes, I can send you the WIF. I've been trying to figure out how to include the WIF with the pattern but Etsy only allows certain file types to be uploaded. Send me an email and I'll send you the WIF. I'm glad you found the packaging nice. I like to make it like a present you're opening for yourself. Thanks again for the support. I'll be weaving more of these napkins soon as I have another commission and they seem to be quite popular! Happy Weaving.
Actually it is a worsted weight Dk is a 3ply or light weight. This how I started weaving.
You are absolutely right! I misspoke from memory. Thanks for catching that. I think all knitter-turned-weaver has started out with knitting yarn since that's what they have available. I wanted to show the non-knitters out there that it's perfectly acceptable! Thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Grace, I am wondering what program you have on your computer. Is this a dobby loom?
This is not a dobby loom. It's a 1940's Bergman countermarch loom. I have a couple weaving programs I use. On my PC I use Fiberworks Bronze. I then transfer it to my iPad and use iWeaveit. I really like iWeaveit but haven't been able to justify spending the money for the Mac version when I have a perfectly good program that works on my PC. Maybe when the PC dies I'll have to break down and purchase iWeavit for my MacBook Pro 😊 Thanks for watching.
The blanket is coming out so beautiful! The way you were able to keep that colors straight is amazing to me. Great video. And, that's a long stretch in that reed!
Thanks, it's going to be a very cozy blanket, I think. The width was quite a stretch and was tiring. Thanks for watching ❤️
That came out very pretty.
Thanks. I like how it turned out too. Thanks for watching.
Grace, I'm so glad to see you up working at the loom. I almost spun that roving up too, but just kept using up fleeces I had instead. That blanket is gorgeous!
I'm happy to be able to weave. It's slow going since I don't have a lot of energy but it makes me happy. I would much prefer spinning a nice fleece over acrylic but it was early in my spinning journey, I wanted the practice and it was cheap 😂.
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow... That is so gorgeous.
Thank you! I love the way it turned out. Thanks for watching ❤️
I Spun that roving many times. It works wonderfully.
It is fun to spin!
Beautiful blanket
Thank you so much! I love the way it turned out. thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Grace. Such a lovely project. It is a pleasure to watch you weave. That black warp sure shows off you pretty hand spun weft. What are the little washers that I saw when you changed your bobbin? (At about the 20 minute and 30 second mark.) I ask because I use the LeClerc boat shuttles too. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I really like the way it turned out. The little washers are battery terminal anti corrosion washers I got off Amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGPTVN53/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1). Basically just felt washers to take up space and keep the bobbin from rattling 😊 It makes it a little quieter, especially when the bobbins are close to empty. Thanks for watching!
@tangledwebsweaving ahhh, good idea!!
Je vous suis régulièrement comment procéder pour les vidéos en français merci
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you find them helpful.
Hi Grace-just checking in to see how you’re feeling 😊. I hope each day will bring you a little bit more strength and loving thoughts. Whether finding healing in your weaving practice or just resting, know that this will pass. I had cancer twice…and through the creative therapies, managed to navigate the journey through. ❤😊
Thank you for your kind words and support, it means a lot to me. It has been a struggle the past few weeks but I'm feeling better lately and just try to remember that it's a finite process and will be over in a few months. I'm so glad you hear you've navigated your journey successfully and wish you continued good health. Thanks for watching and Happy Weaving.
I thought the chair was going backwards, not the dog drop. 😆
The dog is such a goof it doesn't surprise me he fell off!
Finished but not finished. 😁
Love the Texsolv heddles. How do you like them?
I really like the texsolv because it's so quiet when weaving. But tthhe easing meddle heddles is easier but you get used to how the texsolv threads so it goes pretty fast. Thanks for watching ❤️
I get it ! The bane of the Artist’s perfect perfection.
Obviously, this is not your first rodeo, uh, warping.
I can totally understand your trepidation. It’s a very beautiful cloth . Just cut it you know what you’re doing . You got this.
Hugs and prayers for successful treatment and speedy healing.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching.
Lovely to see you back at the loom. My husband went through this 6 years ago so we know how expenses can mount up. Wishing you well and a speedy return to good health. ❤
Thank you for your kind words and support. It is tough to deal with the financial stress of cancer treatment on top of everything else but my weaving helps keep me in my happy space! Thanks for watching ❤️
Keep your chin up, we’re all are with you in spirit.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Your support is so greatly appreciated.
So good to see you back on RUclips. Sending you my very warmest wishes. Lovely Strickler pattern too!
Thank you so much! It's hard to keep motivated sometimes but you all give me inspiration.
Great pattern. All prayers and good thoughts for your fight!
Thank you so much for your kind words and thanks for watching ❤️
Your directions were very clear and useful. As a former alpaca breeder I feel you do a disservice to the fiber to label it ‘sleazy’. The nature of this fiber, and indeed a measure of the fineness of the end product is it’s softness and draping. Also, it’s generally not woven under high tension.
Thank you for your comments. I did not mean to imply negatively by using the term sleezy. It was ment to imply that it's very slippery and will move around in the weave structure more readily. The drape and feel is like butter and I absolutely love it ❤️
Thank you sooooo much !
I'm glad you found it helpful!
You probably know this, but there is a forum called colon talk. I had colorectal cancer in 2016 and I lived on that forum. My best wishes for you and recovery.
Thank you for the tip. I was not aware of the forum and will check it out. I'm glad you were able to find a helpful community to be part of during your treatment. Thanks for watching my videos also!
Thanks for the update!! Take care!! ❤❤
Thank you for your support. ❤️
Praying for you and sending you some white light energy. The black warp is beautiful
Thank you so much for your kind words. I love the black warp too! Thanks for watching ❤️
Great to see you and hear how you're doing. Your project on the loom is gorgeous! 🥰
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you like the weaving project.
Bless you Grace, you are in my prayers hoping you will start to feel much better soon. Thank you for the update, I have been thinking about you hoping everything is okay. The blanket/throw is absolutely stunning and thank you for sharing. I just bought some beautiful items from your Etsy shop too. Take care Grace, wishing you a speedy recovery ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words ad keeping me in your thoughts. I so appreciate everyone's support and really appreciate your Etsy purchases. They are going out in today's mail. I hope you enjoy them ❤️
thanks for the update. I was worried. You are so gracious, so positive and a role model. Fingers crossed that the treatment gets easier and you're back to the things you love in life.
Thank you so much for your kind words and thanks for your support. It truly means a lot to me. Thanks for watching ❤️
I didn't know about this...I'm so sorry. I'm glad to know I'm not the only weird one that has bought that fat blanket roving and spin it...lol Good luck, we wish u the very best!
Thank you so much for your kind words. The blanket roving makes good spinning material if you can get it on clearance I I think they actually have it in 100% wool but I didn't find it so cheap as the acrylic and the colorway I really liked. Thanks for watching.
Sending you good vibes ❤
Thank you!
Keeping you in my prayers! Take care of you!!
Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️
Praying for you, sweet lady.
Thank you so much ❤️
So good to see you Grace. Prayers for a successful treatment and full recovery. I absolutely love the project on your loom! You are so inspiring to keep weaving and knitting through your treatment.
I appreciate your support. It's been a tough journey but weaving is a great way to keep my mind busy and focus on something positive. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Soooo good to see your beautiful self and your beautiful weaving. It makes me smile knowing that you are happy with the lovely project on your loom. Prayers for the rest of your treatment to be drama free!
I appreciate your support and prayers. I'm trying to stay positive and focus on my health, but it's nice to have a creative outlet to keep me going. 💖 Thanks for watching!
@tangledwebsweaving 😽❤️
Had been thinking a lot of you the last week, and am very happy to see you now. It isn‘t an easy road you must go, but I trust you will find the strenght to go on. Sending much love and light. And thanks for showing us the nice pattern! (Still struggling with inches as I‘m used to centimeters 😅)
Thank you for your kind words and support, it means a lot! It's not an easy road but I have to remember it's a journey and there IS an end in sight (it happens to be my birthday at this point but that could change!). I'm glad you like the pattern. It's turning out better than I could have hoped. Inches to cm is easy (1" is approx. 2.5 cm). Going cm to inches not quite as easy math (about .4" to a cm). I guess it's what you're used to though! Thanks for watching ❤️
@ 💕
I love that pattern and the black warp. I'm going to have to try using black more in warps. Good luck with your treatments!
Thanks so much! I think the black in a warp really lets the weft colors and pattern shine! Thanks for watching ❤️
My prayers go out for you. ❤
Thank you so much ❤️ It means a lot to me.
Great video! You look lovely. The pattern and colorways are amazing. Hugs coming your way. ❤
Thank you so much my friend! Your support throughout this has been so uplifting. I'm glad you liked the pattern and colorway on the weaving too! 😊
Prayers for your fight. ❤
Thank you so much 💗
I'm frustrated to the point if giving up. I've tried warping my loom but can't even get beyond a few warps on the oeg before it seems to be twisted ir something. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I'm so sorry your having trouble. Unfortunately without seeing at least pictures (or a video better yet) I can't tell what might be the problem. If you want to email me more details on your project (yarn using, steps taken, when the problem comes up) with maybe a couple pics I can try to help. One suggestion right off would be to make sure you're going around the peg the same say every time. Hope you have success and please do email if you would like more help.
I thought tabby tie up was 1 and 3 then 2 and 4??
Not necessarily. The idea of tabby is to raise every other thread. Because the original threading in this draft is 1, 3, 2, 3 and 1, 4, 2, 4 I need to raise shafts 1 & 2 for one tabby and 3 & 4 for the other tabby. When I extend the threading to 8 shafts I just carry those up to shafts 5-8 the exact same way (1/2/5/6 & 3/4/7/8). I hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching and happy weaving.
Thank you for sharing
You're very welcome!
Hi Grace, you probably won't see this for awhile but I wanted you to know I am thinking of you and sending lots of good energy. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. It means a lot! ❤️ I know I haven't posted anything in awhile but I'll try to get an update out soon.
