I’m using scale shapes that I know will work for the key of C. You can use the C major scale, C major pentatonic scale, A minor scale, A minor pentatonic scale and a host of others depending on what you want to play. I plan on doing lessons in the future about how to use the right scales in different situations.

Nope. To make it sound like the record, you do need effects but you can play the song on acoustic or electric.

The first step is to understand which key you’re in. At the basic level, every major scale has 7 notes and every major key has 7 standard chords that can be made from those major scale notes. If you want to make your own licks that sound good over a chord, it helps to use notes from the corresponding major scale and to use notes that are already a part of the chord. For example, if you’re in the key of C and playing over a C major chord, you want to play licks that involve the notes of the C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) with special focus on the notes that come from the chord itself (C major chord = C E G). If the next chord is a D minor, you can still use any of the notes of the C major scale with a special focus on the notes of that chord (D F A). This takes a long time to master, but the concept is straightforward. Hope that helps! I teach private lessons if you’d like a more in-depth explanation.

@@Anaïsss39 Sure! Watch as many videos as you can from different channels about the musical alphabet, the major scale, and the Nashville number system. Like 10 different videos on each. Test yourself to make sure you’re retaining the information. That’s where I would start.

The delay I’m using is set to a dotted eighth note. How you get that timing dialed in varies, depending on what type of delay pedal you have. Some pedals have a tap tempo and note subdivision settings while others use milliseconds. I arrived at my settings by playing the song at full speed and tweaking the delay timing, little by little, until it sounded right.

I recommend just spending some focused time practicing chords. All you need is 10 minutes a day working on the same few chords until you have them committed to memory.

It’s the A note located on the 7th fret of the D string. It’s a little bit quiet because it’s being tapped, but you’re welcome to pick it as well. Hope that helps!
