I believe Kanye wests dialog in the script was trying to portray the idea of being the “same beast” as having the same level of skill and success in a craft ( music, basketball ) and that being the “different animal” means to be unique in your practice, style, or approach. Something that both Kanye west and Kobe Bryant are known for respectively with “mamba mentality” and Kanye”s visionary ideas and outlooks being expressed in his music and through popular tweets at this time. So being the same beast but a different animal would just mean to be a successful and talented artisan who contributes a unique value or perspective to their craft in relation to the success and contributions of the time period of each practice.
