The Art of Building
Добавлен 20 июл 2024
This channel is intended to help anyone interested in building. Whether you’re entering the trades, honing existing skills, or a homeowner trying to maintain your own property.
I have over 30 years of building experience, mostly residential, some commercial. I have extensive experience in design, timber framing, trim carpentry, and welding/metal fabrication. I have performed nearly every job involved in home building, but I’ve also spent decades raising my kids while maintaining and improving my own home.
One of my main passions is problem solving, which brings me to the name of the channel.
The Art of Building refers not only to adding an artistic touch to any project, but really to the idea that we are trying to create a nearly perfect result from imperfect materials and circumstances.
Thanks for watching!

Great video!!
Sorry everyone, I realized I called the screws out incorrectly. Not 1/4”-20. Just a 1/4” lag screw. Have a great day!
I was gifted the Z-W's but I'm definitely making some of these. Great video!
@@EJx313 Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the reminder on a simple technique. I’m going to use this on a project that I am struggling to measure accurately. Another option is to measure over 10 inches(or what ever measurement is convenient) and then measure from the other side to your 10” mark and add that number to 10”.
@@scottmason7129 Thanks Scott, that is another good option!
Great beginner video Swa!
TLDR:Perfect. I am a hardware installer door wizard who uses paper shims from flushing out hardware like you did to tipping hinges to center doors. I keep 1/8" dowel in my tool bag to shove into wallowed out screw holes or to move the hole as you did only I don't bother with glue. Cram it in, snap it off, pre-drill if required then run the screw it. It isn't going anywhere but you use what you got. I use a #9 VIX bit too,l for others an 1/8' bit will do. To save time I move the screw holes first then attach the strike over lapped and run a sharp utility knife along the edge realizing the angle the blade rides matters. Gloss finishes or flaky paint require a soft touch. Look closely at where the blade tip actually hits wood before slicing. Remove strike then wood with a sideways tap of the chisel to control the depth of the recess easier and you will get a good fit fast. I am looking forward to your next video
Thanks for the feedback!
I used a piece of angle for my door with the angle turned in under the door molding. My door opens inward .
I like that idea, thanks for sharing!
Great video!
😸
Never knew that about the movement of the tape measure hook, I thought my tapes were just badly made or wearing out.
Good Informative video.
Great advice ,thank you .
Super informative! Especially for those who struggle to break down fractions like myself! Plus, I loved the additional info from the kitty at the end of the video. She definitely taught me a thing or two 😂😂
Great! Very informative!
