I feel like this is taking a lot longer than it needs too. I get that the govt needs to do inspections and have proper engineering plans but guys, get the damn rock and dirt off the road to get it open. Build retaining walls AFTER you open the highway. Having to take a 30+ minute detour all the way around the preserve is just ridiculous. Edit: Literally you have to drive all the way to the beach just to get up into Ojai which is absolutely insane.

I guess this is what "Build Back Better" looks like. Spending multiple months dithering in committees and spending millions and getting nowhere through vast bureaucratic incompetence.

@@CamiloSantana Clear the damn rock and dirt off the road then build the retaining wall after a couple lanes are open? The logical solution? Its summer now no rain is coming anymore, no more mudslides.

Sadly today I visited SR39 closed road and it’s extremely rocky and there is a huge landslide, there is a waterfall flowing down a whole chunck of the road as well as tons of rockfalls and landslides it’s extreme but I THINK IT SHOULD BE OPEN, screw the baby people who think we shouldn’t drive up there

While I appreciate the update, why is there only one bulldozer working? Why are you giving "fall" (at the earliest) as an opening date? And why is one lane blocked in PCH for several months now, saying it's "not a priority"? I have never seen a government agency put out promo videos. Entire roads and bridges have been constructed in less time in areas outside of Southern California. This slide should have been cleared already. You're putting everyone in the canyon and the surrounding areas at risk...especially if a large fire comes through the area. Florida rebuilt the Sanibel Causeway in FIFTEEN days.

If this happened in orange county the road would have been reopened within a couple of weeks. But since this happened in LA, they say they wont clear it until the fall, which would mean 7 months from when the slide occurred. Absolutely ridiculous. These people are clowns not deserving of a paycheck.

I appreciate him coming out and he's probably going to be the next governor, but the "climate change" talking point is ridiculous. Was it climate change in January 1969? And if it's climate change, why is he waiting for geologists to come out? Shouldn't he be consulting meteorologists? Let's not make it political. Let's get it open.

In 2000, there was an LA Times story that stated an estimation of 30,000 cars driving through Topanga daily. Today there are no doubt many many more commuters than there were in 2000.

As a longtime resident of the Santa Monica Mountains, the impact will not be unprecedented. Topanga is closed. As it has been in the past. So, could you address efforts to mitigate the impact? Is there a link or links to a website or websites where we can get information? Perhaps you could put those links on a on page, to make navigation more efficient and productive. Thank you.
