Quickie QM-710 curb test
Quickie QM-710's stability tested on 2 inch curb. The fact that the front left caster did not drop down off the curb before the front right caster would seem to indicate that the casters are not truly independent, but I am not a suspension expert. Nevertheless, the QM-710 provided a much smoother transition off the curb than the M-300.

Quickie's QM 710 climbing ability tested using 2 foot ramp on an 8 inch rise. In case you are wondering whether the chair was able to make it all the way up the ramp, I'm sorry to say that I didn't make it all the way. I'm convinced that the chair would have been able to easily make it all the way up the ramp if the power and torque were programmed properly. If you or someone you know owns a QM...

    Being a e-chair user for over 20 years myself I am appalled. Taking curbs should NEVER be done this way, as it is a sure way to unbalance both user and chair. Use ramps and if not possible, confront the obstacle head on: drop both front wheels off the curb using your mid-wheels engines to break the fall and ease the drop. Then ease the rest of the wheels off the curb. Note for midwheelers: if the curb is too high the suspension will be maxed out and it is possible that the midwheels will lose contact with the surface. Only way to handle that situation is with a push by your friendly neighborhood spiderman, or whoever.

      That's real iffy. Over 6 in curb and you would probably topple. Chair repairs are expensive and getting hurt is no fun either.

    Thanks for your feedback Margie. I've owned the QM 710 for over one year and I can't say I've had any problems similar to what you describe. I've relied on power wheelchairs for the past 16 years and I'm learned there are many different ways to program these settings on your chair to control torque, acceleration and speed. When driving slowly over curbs and other obstacles, you want more torque than acceleration or speed. On smooth flat surfaces, you want the opposite. You can also try different driving techniques to get over obstacles, but always remember to drive safely. For example, try approaching the curb at an angle if possible. Hope this helps.

    I think the idea was to show the independent suspension of each wheel while going down the curb at that angle compared to a similar QM710 in another video. It makes me wonder though if the Permobil would have been trapped if you went straight forward. I also wish there was a Q6 Edge video. Thanks for the information.

      I use the M300 to get up 2.5" climbs onto the local light rail (tram) and around local kerbs. Apart from Marjin being entirely correct that this is a horrific way to treat a M300 and opening the angle like that is the easiest way to ground any chair in a hard to move manner, the drive wheels can manage the tip and the 'helper' is in a stupid place if the chair tips. While it does show the independent suspension it's pretty biased saying it's less sophisticated than the QM710 and Q6 Edge given they're both easier to beach and harder to recover from, plus the tracking systems interfere with normal driving - especially on adverse cambered slopes.

      I ended up getting the new permobil f3 and now I see they have a new design called the m3 for their m300 replacement. It looks nice. Wish it was available when I was getting the f3.

      I've just gone ahead with a F5 for the VS package even though I really want a M5 because I ride a lot with my 3 year old boy on my lap. The M3 is fantastic from what I've seen but the reality is that the front wheel drive is less likely to overheat, get stuck and comfort is generally better, plus public transport and kerb climbing is better and you don't have to worry about castor issues the M300 once had and a few other things - the F series tend to have bigger motors so the M3 is now an 'indoor/outdoor' chair - but in 4 years I guess you're hoping for the M3.2?

    • @NvikIngsN
      @NvikIngsN 7 лет назад

      Yup, pro's and con's for both, but I really miss being able to turn in tight places with a mid-wheel drive. Still getting used to the front wheel drive, but it does have it perks too. Thanks for the info.

    My qm 710 only climbs 1 1/2" without a ramp. I am very dissappointed. It also bottoms out when I approach 1 1/2" right after another one on the threshold.

    That is a very impressive test of the independent front and back wheels, would never attempt at in my TdX SP in Australia. I know it's not a recommended way to go down a curb but it is nice to know it can be done. I'm looking at getting a particular share or another model had tried to find out as much info as possible. Thank you for the video

    i have the QM-710 6mph powerbase , just received it about a week ago And I am truly impressed with the performance of this chair. However, I have found out the hard way that you need to pick your curb's wisely, it will not go down on standard sidewalk curb without trying to bury the front foot rest into the concrete... And also sometimes the motors run a little hot, just and FYI but other than that everything had exceeded my expectations and I am out in the community once again. I even go on solo fishing trip's. lol

      +Steven KILE I agree, I maybe in the market for a new chair. A tad faster and he would of made it, the chair isn't even wheel spinning. I moved away from mid wheel to rear wheel cause I previously had issues with the drive wheel lifting when hitting a obstacle but the spidertrac technology appeals to me

    Driving off a curb at an angle like that could lead to tipping over sideways. You should go up and down curbs straight on.

    Just out of curiosity, when he couldn't get up the ramp why didn't he tilt the chair forward to put more weight over the drive wheels like you asked him to do in the Quickie? I've had my Permobil M300 since Nov. 2011 and have gotten over obstacles, curbs etc. that other wheelchairs wouldn't even get close to. Because of my balance issues and spasms I tend to tilt back more when going down hills/curbs and tilt forward more when going uphill and up steep ramps or curbs. It helps.

  • @Eulogy96
