Great video, only a few comments and I understand the semantic part of my comment so relax. # 1 explaining the grip was great difference I teach is the strong hand grip is like a good hand shake and the support hand grip would be more like squeezing a tennis ball giving people a better relationship ( some instructors with their 70-30 , 60-40 which is not quantitative.) My fingers on the grip are the hinge and the palms the nut cracker so to speak to apply proper pressure on the grips. The term smashing the trigger has a different meaning connotation depending on what part of the country you are from. Most people would better understand pressing the trigger as smashing could mean excessive and indicative of slapping with force. So again not trying to be critical just terminology can be different depending on audience. Similar to people using the term weapon vs firearm and yes a firearm can be a weapon, however my firearm is used as a tool of self defense the media has demonized the term weapon and relating it to military use and people with weapons are criminals, so to avoid that I have a firearm. Correct terminology adds to credibility.

Job one is chronograph the load and then zero to 100 yards. 100 yards is important because it will reveal sight misalignment. This is simply a placeholder zero. Next, use a ballistics app to understand bullet drop compensation from the 100 yard zero to the long range distance. Now, shoot a tall target at 100 yards applying the bullet drop compensation needed for the long range distance and note if the bullet strikes are left or right of initial grouping. This will give recognition of the optic being level. Finally, shoot match grade factory ammunition and use it as a base line for the accuracy expected from hand loads. And do not shoot F class because it does not support the number one thing which is marksmanship development. That will come from shooting NRA any/any LR using bone and sling support. That discipline helps to understand how to achieve muscular relaxation and natural point of aim which are as essential to long range as is an understanding for what to do about the wind.There’s much more but this will get anyone off to a great start. How do I know? I was once a novice and now I am an American High Power Rifleman in Long-Range Award Winner. The bottom-line is marksmanship is knowledge and skill. The knowledge comes fast and easy, while the skill takes time to develop.

Buy both, learn both, get a second focal plane in moa to harvest game. Get a FFP in MRAD for target/ elr… if it’s beyond your capacity to become proficient in both, pick one and stick to it…

If you can easily find a place to shoot- Mil. If you have trouble locating somewhere big enough to use your rifle- MOA.

Suffice it to say, hunters are generally shooting at shorter distances than long-distance target shooters. So, a hunter using MOA at 200yrds makes more sense than a PRC shooter at 1000yrd using MOA, due to it requiring more clicks than mrad.

This debate always involves bias and trying to over complicate the other. Keep it simple, if you take away the unit or name…. At 100yrds One click on one =.25” while the other =.36”. Move the turret accordingly. The MOA is more precise, however, the MRAD has less turret travel to get to greater distances

Dot sighting simplified. Point Of Aim (POA is where your dot appears on the target). Point Of Impact (POI is where the bullet hole on target is located). Adjustments clicks may be described in 1 minute of angle. This maths out to 1 tenth of an inch at a distance of 10 yards. Regardless of zeroing by human fire or mechanical fire (ransom machine, etc), apply the math. Your dot sight instructions should describe which direction to turn. Mine describes from POI, so my adjustment is to move the hole to the dot/POA/target center. So, in the perfect world, I want to move 1 inch (hole to center of target at 10 yards), the adjustment is 10 clicks. One tenth of an inch is roughly 1/4 the width of a 9mm casing. Personally, I adjust less than the math number, then shoot again. Using this method, I adjust until it's gone too far, then adjust back.

Not all the time as it depends on the specific application, as not all pistols require a plate to mount a red dot.

Diagnosing the anticipation is key. Practicing sight alignment/sight picture, focusing on the front sight, dry fire, moving the trigger finger only, and telling yourself, "Let the gun do the work." Pushing the gun doesn't help. Take it from someone who knows. Practice, practice, practice. ✌🏾

It is important to stress Mil Radians have nothing to do with the metric system. People get freaked out about that. It is a unit of measure just like MOA..

No 1 cuts their base board trim on the metric system in America. When they do.. mils will fly. The only reason the average American chooses mils is tactacool. Unless former military. Even though it is more simple in my mind.

Forgot it Guys.. When an American no longer reads a tape measure in inches.. then mil will be wfo. Period..

I ran out of travel on a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 when using a Vortex Venom. Required a 1 degree shim, seemed pretty standard when I asked Tandemkross in regards to their Shadow mount. Guess it's all just too flat without the shim.

If you zero at 25, the worst offset at closer distances will be less than 1". If you zero at 10, your offset at 25 will be around 6". That, plus shooter error, can put you off the chart. At 25, your off zero shots will be more obvious than at 10. If you can't get decent groups at 25 yards, know that limitation in a self defence situation. There is an attorney attached to every shot, especially missed shots. Seems obvious, but watching cops doing multi-mag dumps and missing worst than 95% of the shots show that they are taking shots way outside their actual skill level, making their gun a noise maker, only...

As to being way off because someone at the store may have been playing with the scope. What do you guys think about mechanically centering the scope? 1. Windage: Take it all the way left or right. Bring it all the way the opposite direction ( counting your clicks) Then bring it back half the total clicks. Windage can be done the same way. Except your taking all the way down or up. Then do the same procedure with elevation . I do this to all my scopes. Time consuming but at least I am comfirming the scopes Mechnical Zero. Any drawbacks to this process? Enjoyed your video! Vortex needs to address a few thinks with this optic #1 the 14 hour shut down time with a shake to wake optic is foolish should be more like 10 minutes would make the battery last a lot longer. #2 need better refresh rate. #3 Most people cannot feel or hear any click on the elevation or windage knobs.
