I first watched the movie The Lost Weekend on TV as a kid watching the midday movie. I had a powerful impact on me and I've never forgotten it.

Raymond Lyman is a genius. In another video Ray speaks to the same council member and Ray tells him he's a fraud and will be sitting in jail. Fast forward about 10 years and the same guy (Cartwright?) was convicted for fraud for stealing public funds from Scranton taxpayers and he DID wind up sitting in jail. Ray Lyman called it. Ray Lyman is the guy you want in the trenches fighting beside you whereas these other politicians would probably end up pissing themselves.

Wow, were still facing the huge ramifications of colonization, while Caucasian people are quick to say "get over it", "it happened in the past" and that it doesnt effect us today. The decendants of the indigenous people are still suffering from the legacy of colonization. There will come a time though when we take back our lands, we must to protect it.

I am an alcoholic. Currently I still drink, however not NEARLY to the level of utter self-destruction that I once did. Many years ago I found out about The Lost Weekend, saw the film and not only was it a devastating (although the movie was romanticised) look at an alcoholic, but also a window into another time, that of America in the 1940's. I hunted down the book and have listened to it on audio book a few times. The book, as they say, is indeed far better and you get a much much more personal account of Don Birnam and Charles Jackson living through him. Alcohol is psychotic. At the time Jackson penned it, the phrase from AA, "cunning, baffling, powerful" rang true and it still does to this day... I have attended many AA meetings, but personally it is not for me. I cannot buy what they preach. I am also a very firm Atheist and even though they try to say very delicately, "God as you understand him", it never works with me. I personally do not agree with their dismissal of science either. I know it has worked for many people, but I curbed my drinking on my own and for that I feel much more satisfaction than if I had done it through them. I also don't believe in going fully dry. I drink carefully these days and never binge anymore. It's weird hearing Jackson's voice... Wikipedia tells us that at the height of his career he was making boat loads of money, lecturing at universities and basically being a minor celebrity. Today you couldn't get a single Gen-Z person to name him at all as they're far too into their phones and vapes... Time fades us all and it's these weird moments of reflection that I think too few people realise. We somehow all feel we are invincible.
