@@robriot6882 that’s awesome, thank you!
Amazing video! Thanks for taking the time to put it together and share!
Thanks for taking the time to make a great video. Both funny ( 6:29 & 9:48 esp) and informative. Your photos are absolutely beautiful.
Great video. I was also at Brooks this summer and wanted to add that it seems the planes are more reliable than the boat. I’d booked the boat RT and upon arrival was told my boat was cancelled due to wind but was put on a plane that got me to camp no problem. Boat guy said if there’s wind the boat ride can take over 2 hours! For the same price, better views, faster and more reliable- I’ll be booking the plane in the future. I imagine they raised the boat price to match the plane so they aren’t taking a big loss when they have to reschedule boat passengers to the planes.
You honestly make me feel like I've never truly visited Antelope Island before. You did an amazing job on this!
*Thanks* Congratulations!!! Please keep us posted….
Thank you! Will do!
Nice ! Found you on FTF messenger
Welcome!
Great video. I can't imagine how bad the mosquitos were camping there? I've been in the Canadian interior and have gotten eaten alive before.
What camera gear did you take?
Canon R6 with 100-500 mm lens. Couple of GoPros.
I think you are very wrong on your assessment of the planet vs boat. Boat cancels is far more unreliable. Just ask a ranger even.
Agreed. See update in description.
$450 for a ferry ride? What a rip off!
Agreed.
ran into you out on antelope island, great videos!
Remind me… were you one of the nice folk I spoke to at the fence as the heard came in?
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimals Yes, I was shooting right next to you when they passed, I had the Sony and the 100-400
Amazing! Thank you.
Some epic shots man! So jelous! Very well done!
Great job while living your dream.
This is so informative. You're so smart!
What time of year is best? Thanks
Great video!
I'm animal and nature lover and love this video. The visual and music are great match.
Thank you. Very glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for your two wonderful videos about viewing brown bears in Alaska. In your Brooks Falls one, you mentioned not getting many subscribers. I think your best bet for getting more is to have more content. I’d love to see more videos about seeing animals in the lower 48, where accessing the areas is more affordable. For instance, Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge in northern Idaho or the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge in Montana, where it’s possible to see hundreds of elk in the fall. Thanks for taking the time to make beautiful videos.
@@elnorac Wonderful advice, thank you. That’s the plan anyway, more videos. Of course I have to manage a full time job and get the budget to go to these places so it’s taking a bit longer than I hope. Regardless, I will make it happen. Working on a burrowing owl video, coping with a loss of a pet video, Ketchikan Alaska video and an Elk Refuge video. The thing about living your dreams is it takes a while, but I will keep on keeepin on :)!
What is the specific permit needed for the river trail and how much does it cost?
Stop by the Ranger Station (across from Brooks Lodge where everyone eats) and they can get you a permit for about $6.
I was there 1st week of August last year. Lots of bears on falls, but I didn't get the iconic salmon flying into bears mouth either. !00's of great shots though.
great video. thank you
Thank you for this video, I hope I can camp next summer, but am kind of afraid to go alone
@@CorsoLady I think you’ll find it can be done. There is plenty of rangers available to help. Get a good waterproof tent, walk in groups, use good ole common sense and you’ll be fine :).
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimals I totally get that-I'm sure it can be done but I'd want to be part of a group there as they recommend. Even then I would not be thrilled about walking through the bears
I went alone this last trip. When it came to walking to and from the falls, I simply waited for other people I can walk with. I wasn’t part of their group, but walked close enough as if I was :).
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimals thank you!
Love it!!
Was there in 1986 and am heading back next week. Man ! The place has changed. heading for an extended trip into the 10K Smokes.
@@waterst9 Glad you can make it back! I bet it was different back then , but at least the bears are the same :).
No bears can't walk on water but they are strong swimmers.
They sure are, hence “We kept our distance.”
The part where you pull up the Explore cam and shout “What the, come on” at all the bears was so hilarious, I played it back several times
@@AubreyCasler-c3p I know. I’m demented.
Dammit I jumped at the tent/bear scare
Sorry about that. Small sacrifice to gain subscribers :-).
A very well done and informative video. Thank you.
Very welcome!
Brown Bears are great swimmers.
They sure are! They good at walking like humans too!
The water taxi is less reliable than the float planes. The planes have an alternate landing on East wind days. Most float plane companies will also refund your ticket due to cancellations, whereas, the water taxi will not refund and does not have an alternative route.
Agreed. Learning more and more about the water taxi. If anyone is reading these comments, recommendation is to go with the float planes! Description has been updated.
Hi! Great video! I'm in it too coming out of the food cache in the campground :) The only thing I would add is that the Water Taxi can be very unreliable especially during high winds. I've been to Brooks Camp the past 4 years (including this one) as a camper and there are always cancellations posted by the water taxi. It works for some and it's a great experience, but their cancellation and NO REFUNDS policy has put a few people into tight spots more than once.
@@perlgurl Agreed! I am hearing more and more about water taxi cancellations. I’ll put a disclaimer in the descriptions. Feel free to like and subscribe so more people see the video. Thank you for being a star and the info about the water taxi!
You nailed it ... accurate video and exceptional photography.
Thank you! Glad it helps.
As someone that lives here in Alaska for over thirty two years now and I also do photography that is one place I plan on going next year but there are so many places here in Alaska that you can drive to and get pictures of bears without having to fly out to them and that is just one of the reasoned I love living here in Alaska plus’s being able to do photography of the northern lights and all of the other wildlife
I would love to learn if such spots. I live in Utah, but struggle to pay for the trips to Katmai every year.
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimals just let me know when your coming the next time and can hook you up with the places to go on the road system
@@robertdoyle8972 thank you will do. Hoping one more time before summer ends. I usually hang out in Soldatna, Homer and Seward.
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimals I have a lot of friends down that way and still getting reports of the bears in Valdez feeding over by the hatchery and lots of eagles
I would love to know where I could see bears other than Katmai. I'll be in Anchorage after my cruise and am trying to make Katmai happen but it seems like a daytrip will be a nightmare.
Your video is the first that I’ve heard mention of a trail going down to the river. I’ve only heard of platform viewing at Brooks Falls and I would much prefer eye level views for photography. I’m going to have to research this more. Thanks for posting this.
You bet! The trick is courage. During the busy times (i.e. July, August and Sept), I would feel better with a guide.
Great video. I was lucky enough to camp at Katmai in September 2020. Chose September to avoid the mosquitos and see beautiful fat bears. I did take the water taxi instead of flying in with my group, but I ended up flying out with my group because the water taxi was cancelled but the flight wasn't.
@@katieforeman7947 Thank you for the comment. I am hearing the water taxi cancels sometimes. Did they give you a reason?
@@LetsGoFindSomeAnimalsYes, it was weather-related. The waves were too high.
How is this a thing? Boats can handle way higher waves than the float planes.
@@ch56mc float planes can land on Brooks lake during East wind days. Which is usually the type of wind that causes issues at Brooks.
I have reservations for September 12th - 14th, haven’t booked flights bc I’m worried about spending the $ and then not seeing many bears.. did you see plenty at the falls during your September trip?
Going in two weeks. Thanks for the tips.,,
@@ShawnQuish0904 you’re gonna love it!
Have you ever done wildlife photography in Grand Teton and/or Yellowstone?
Although I have climbed the Grand and Teewinot and explored all around Yellowstone, I did so before I discovered photography. If only I knew then what I know now, but that gives me even more reason to go back.
Thanks for the tips. We just returned from Alaska and visited Lake Clark via a plane from Anchorage. Seen lots of bears when we landed, was an awesome experience. Now I have my eye on Katmai and starting to plan for next year.
Lake Clark is such a beautiful place. I think you’ll really enjoy Katmai. Just be sure to go during the busy season so you see tons of bears. Thanks for the comment.
The part right at 13:09 was tooooo funny. Those mosquitoes getcha every time!
Glad to know other's get my sense of humor! Those darn mosquitoes are scary!
Hey: just watched your RUclips and it was fantastic. You give the best advice for visiting Katmai. It was a pleasure to meet you at katmai and we will continue to watch all your videos. Liam, Jack and Melissa all say hi and are looking forward to your next video.
Wonderful! It sure was nice meeting you and family while there. If you send me your email I can send some raw footage of you and the boys fishing (not color graded yet). I didn't include them in the vid because of under age rules with RUclips. Rather then responding with email on this public forum, feel free to contact me through facebook Let's Go Find Some Animals and I'll send over some footage.
