Welcome! My name is Mr Jehoe!
I am an enjoyer of video games. More importantly, I find video game design to be endlessly fascinating. I love looking at a variety of games made by a variety of people and seeing what people choose to put into their games.
I love finding interesting choices that pay off in little indie games. I love big AAA games that know exactly what they're trying to do. And I love how both the smallest of indie devs and the biggest of AAA devs seem to have an equal chance of pulling something off that's capable of capturing people's attention and imagination.
This channel is dedicated to finding games and turning people onto them who might find them interesting.
I do tend to focus on upcoming smaller indie games, but the big chonkers are fun to look at every once in a while, too.
I hope you enjoy your time here and I hope you find something new to check out!

Karate Survivor: Fresh ideas in a survivor game!
Taking a look at the official release of Karate Survivor.
I recently talked about this game in a video about the best demos from the most recent Steam Next Fest, and now it's out!
I was thinking that I was starting to get a little tired of this genre, but I think it's just that I haven't seen one in a while that does anything new. Karate Survivor feels fresh and has some cool new ideas, and all of the sudden I don't feel tired of the genre anymore! Who would have thought?
The theme in this game is fantastic. Not only is it just a fun world to inhabit, it also informs a lot of the more interesting game mechanics. Most notably, the combo-style skill bar, where attacks are slotted into a seq...

The Lightkeeper is Gone: Extremely Disappointing

Taking a look at the demo for The Lightkeeper is Gone. As the title suggests, I was super disappointed with this demo. But not because it was a bad game. I was actually really enjoying it! Unfortunately, there's a part of the demo that makes absolutely no sense. You're supposed to fish. You're told to click once to put a worm on the hook. Click again to cast. Clicking doesn't appear to do eithe...

Bump in the Night Early Access: Clueless Leader Guides Heroes

Taking a look at the Early Access release of Bump in the Night. I previously looked at the demo of this game and enjoyed the concept. Bob and Susan are real heroes. The game is still a little feature-light but it's day 1 of early access, so that's to be expected. This version has 3 new levels that weren't in the demo and while Bob and Susan still have some pathing issues, it's nowhere near as r...

Taking a look at a game called Phoenix Springs, which was just released today. Apparently I put this game on my Steam wishlist some time ago, though I have no memory of doing so. But I can see why I might have done so,, the visual style of this game is incredible. The gameplay, though? I like it! It does a subtle but unique spin on point and click adventure games where you need to discover lead...

Demon Quest - More puzzling than platforming

Taking a look at a demo for a game called Demon Quest. After watching the trailer for this on Steam, I thought it was going to be a fairly vanilla platformer game, but with a cool visual style. Alaric - Slightly disappointed after the solid pitch

Taking a look at a demo for a game called Alaric. The pitch on steam is that this is a boomer shooter mixed with a metroidvania game. That sounds alright! The metroidvania part of the pitch was nonexistent in the demo. And the gameplay was just kind ...
The Long Road Home - Has a lot of heart

Taking a look at a demo for a game called The Long Road Home. This seems like a fairly casual walking sim type of a game with some light environmental puzzle solving. That being said, the game hints that maybe the woods aren't real and something bigger is happening in the kid's life. What th...

Heartworm - Very cool game with some pretty gross issues
Hey! I am the developer! I am very sorry for the mishap-the fishing rod fiasco was not supposed to happen and I somehow never caught this exact thing while testing. The rod should appear with the fishing hook, but it seems like the hook got bugged out somehow during the play-through. Very embarrassing; I'll get to fixing it right now! EDIT: I've made some adjustments, but could not actually reproduce the issue. I'm hoping what I did will fix it.
The game youtube auto selected is wrong. Another game dev released a game with the same name on steam a few months before we released the early access version but long long after we had the storepage and demo up. We asked them to change it and they told us oops sorry we didn't check and its to late now hope it doesn't cause issues.
Ok also just finished watching your playthrough. Its kinda awesome watching a blind playthrough like this! We have had a decent amount of people stream the game(it has chat integration where chat can control bob and susan) and there are always others in chat that will help them over some of the logic jumps. Seeing where someone actually gets stuck is great. We take feedback really seriously I believe you messaged using the feedback form about the word change and its on the list to do. Need to update the graphic, change the text and we actually registered the domain as an easter egg but ya we will change it. Had no clue about that word having a negative connotation. One other thing that I have seen a few times and not sure yet how to best tutorialize is the hiding spot is actually the coffin in the backyard on the church. As far as things in the lobby, the pc has a few messages, minigames, unlockable original music, paper shredder and the desktop wallpaper can be custom set to one of the photos the player has taken. There are some achievements for doing things in the lobby too. These are things we had hopped would be found by the player organically and will look into more ways of accomplishing that. Ill be going back through your video again because you give great feedback! Just like you did with the demo. We have already pushed out day 1,2 and 3 patches with things found by players in the wild and are working our way through the reports as fast as we can. It's two of us building this game out of passion and love for game development. While we hit every milestone for the the early access release we do plan on supporting and expanding the game much more. Just like we did with taking the demo to the games current state, we will be sitting down in the near future and planning out/putting together a roadmap for the full release. p.s. There are quite a few secrets already in place for creative players
Cool! I'm excited to see how this game develops. There's just something about it that strikes a chord with me. I think I said this... somewhere. The concept of Bob and Susan doing ALL of the work is hilarious to me without diminishing the actual scariness, which I think is really fun.
Hank just wildin out at any given moment LMAO
There's a steam achievement for having Hank pet his cows that I didn't get. And I'm both surprised and ashamed that that wasn't the first thing I did in Hank's scene.
@@MrJehoe think of the replayability though!
Great list dude A lot of variety
Thanks for watching! Yeah! I'm pretty happy with the variety of the list. I didn't necessarily set out to do that, but it's fun that it worked out that way.
I LOVE RAM
Right? It's so fun. I'm curious to see what they do in the full game. I assume there will be more robot types, which could be very good. The ones they already have seem very well fleshed out.
Multi-player fast food sim seems fun. Wonder how the difficulty scales with more players. I enjoyed the quick rundown on the games, nice video!
I didn't get the best sense of how the difficulty scales as a single player game. As you do well, you gain popularity. Do poorly and it goes down. I think that might be the driver. So multiplayer may allow for that rating to skyrocket faster. Maybe? Glad you enjoyed the video! I always appreciate your comments!
I hope they take this and clean up some of the issues, and maybe speed up the walk speed
Save points and maybe a little guidance around how to actually play are all I really need... and actually, if there were save points, that'd probably make experimenting to figure out how to play significantly less painful. And I'd be awfully surprised if save points weren't in the final game.
great playthrough, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks very much for watching!
Big thanks for the video !! Hope you enjoy
Dude you didn’t finish the game! There’s a little bit extra at the end, a very important 5 or so minutes of gameplay after the credits that explains everything and ties it all together. Finish this game, even if just on your own.
I have since finished it. I actually feel a little bad about how much of the game I showed. My intent wasn't to show almost the entire thing. I just didn't realize how little was left when I ended the video. Very good, though. If anyone watches the video and hears there's not much left, I still recommend playing through it. The last part is phenomenal.
@@MrJehoe I agree. I believe every single let’s play should leave out that part to the game and be encourage people to go and finish it themselves. It a great game by a very small company and it’s extremely cheap. It’s an ending worth going to finish it yourself.
I've worked on a few games. 90% of development is the last 10% a lot of small things like the volume not consistent get pushed to the end with all the other small tweaks.
Makes sense. It's one of those little issues that I notice in sooo many demos. And it's a fine issue to have in a demo. It doesn't interfere with delivering the vision of the game. I'd rather a lack of polish and finishing touches than some of these demos that don't actually highlight the core gameplay/selling point of the game.
Good Video!🙂 Is there any chance for you to try an indie time travel game called "No Time"? It has an interesting Story!
I might. I'd never heard of that game before but it looks like it might be up my alley. At least interesting enough to try out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for playing and i appreciate the honest feedback. The game and demo is in early stage at the moment but the feedback sure helps me polish the game and iron out quirks that shouldn't be there. It is a solo project after all and it will take some time😅
Cool! I look forward to seeing how it turns out. Best of luck!
Hey there, Jehoe! Uncured devs here :) First of all, thank you so much for not only playing, but providing honest feedback on our little combat demo. As you might have guessed we're still an up-and-coming studio and need all the help we can get to make Uncured the best possible game it can be. You had a few uncertainties about some of Uncured's future plans and current mechanics, so we'd like to clear some of them up! 1. The visuals, which you've correctly pointed out to be placeholders, will have a major overhaul down the line. This includes some of the very rough developer-prototype UIs, or the player animation silhouettes. The reason for implementing these the way we do is to be able to implement new content and exciting mechanics into the game, being able to test and finetune them to make them a fun gameplay experience, and to only then visually polish them. So no worries: Everything you saw that was lacking in visual quality is not intended to stay in the long run. 2. About the weird thank-you screen at the end: We actually just attended Gamescom last week. This disclaimer was meant for people at our booth, who were playing it preinstalled on our computers, to be directed toward Steam. Of course, when pushing the Gamescom version to Steam, we ended up directing Steam users to... well, Steam! Whoops! It's an oversight on our end and you're the first to point it out, so thank you. 3. About Uncured's future in general: What you're seeing here is only a small part of what we envision for the final game. We will have multitudes of different levels with different enemies and especially deeper storylines and more upgrading possibilities. We hope for you to come back and give the game a go upon its release in the next year(s) again, and we'd value your additional feedback then a ton. Otherwise: Thank you for the kind words, too. We tried to make this unpolished product as fun as it can possibly be in its current state, and we're really glad we achieved that to an extent. One more sidenote: You almost did a first try no-death run! That's insanely impressive. Good job, and congrats on beating Jailbird <3 Cheers Love, Michelle from EndRealm
Awesome! I had a lot of fun with this game and will definitely check it out again when it's released. I don't know why, I liked the giant butterknife weapon way more than I feel like I even should have. The reach and power are so good, and the way you debuffed it a bit by giving it the long prep time was very fun, when mixed with some of the speedy enemies. Generally fun to use. Best of luck with development!
Hey, I'm the dev of the game, thanks for playing through and giving your thoughts! The first couple levels that're in are tutorial levels to help people understand the basics and we're working on adding a new tougher and more fleshed out level this week. Also noticed a bug when you played through the 2nd tutorial where the enemy pathing got messed up and fixed that. Appreciate you taking the time to play through and give your honest take!
Awesome! Excited to see how it all turns out. Best of luck!
This looks pretty fun, the game is full of personality, like Boss Monster before it. I wish Boss Monster digital would be re-released with all the content from the physical board game.
They released a new game at Gen Con this year that seemed to be inspired by Mario Kart. Looks a little deeper than this and Boss Monster. Didn't have a chance to try it out. Seems like it might be cool, though.
The one where you shrink on the desk, looked like there was a note on the back of the picture on the desk I like the game but some of them are waaaay to easy
Oh crap, you're right. That is kind of disappointingly simple. I feel like the demo was significantly harder and I keep thinking there's more to the solutions than there is. I finally figured out the one with the printer and the never ending looping stairway. You click the printer and it prints out a piece of paper that says the floor. Similarly disappointing. I kind of wish the developer took the gloves off. Some of the solutions from the demo that were dumbed down were really cool.
@@MrJehoe maybe they will make another more difficult one. It's simple but it's only $3 I suppose
@@t0ptircasua122 Indeed. Can't complain too much. And I'll definitely check out anything else the dev makes.
Fun fact that purring is from the developer's cat who has passed
Thanks for playing. There was a bug, that some UI elements got turned off on cards. Not revealing what the card does was not intentional. So sorry! Hope you will try it the intended way in the future :)
Hey, thank you so much for playing! And I'm glad you like it enough to wishlist and play the full game once it's released :) I realise the coffin puzzle didn't click with you, but I'm pretty confident the full game will pleasantly surprise you. The full Part 1 has you finding not only those five ingredients mentioned in the demo, but two more ingredients that we were able to add thanks to the Kickstarter, so you have a lot more 'ways in' to the puzzles that a confined demo doesn't offer - and that's just Part 1 of a five part game. The demo was made in 2022 - we've made a LOT of improvements, big and small, since then :)
Hello, I would like to introduce myself as a representative of the developers for the game Mage's Legacy. I want to mention that it is currently only a trial version of the game with its first level, so there may be some incomplete and subjective assessments. Thank you for taking the time for us, and we hope you will support the upcoming official release. <3
I totally get that it's only a sliver of the game and not representative of the full final product. I don't say this to be mean or rude, but if a demo doesn't make some kind of sales pitch for the game that'll get anyone excited about it, it's either the wrong sliver to make a demo out of or there's no need for a demo.
😮
Thanks for the efforts to read out all the dialogue 🫡🫡great recording quality
Thanks very much for saying that. Glad to know it's appreciated. It's a weirdly challenging struggle to keep the focus on reading while recording a video. There's always so much going on. Easy to get distracted.
You don't HAVE to stay at 16 cards, you just have to have a MIN of 16 cards, if you want to fatten a deck you can.
great video!!
Watching this back, I have to say, I really nailed the pronunciation of the name Eli. (I don't even remember saying it that way while recording)
Blue Prince demo was sooo addicting
Hi. Midnight Special Dev here. Sorry about the constant Mr.Happy Bar. It's a UI issue we missed. We'll be patching it asap. Thank you for taking the time to play our game.
Nice quick demo, seems like a cool puzzle game!
Nice
Dog shit AI art the card game.
Joe knows his games. best resource of games I know.
Happy to see more of this game!
may be it's one of those wanna be chilla's art game.
That may indeed be the case. I've seen some stuff that makes me think you get kidnapped at the end of the demo and wake up in a house that I'm assuming is the kidnapper's... but I don't actually know if that's what the game is or if it just resets and you do another shift. In which case, it would kind of just be doing the exact same thing that Chilla's Art games have already done.
@@MrJehoe But, with better quality assets...🤣
@@sliceofanime8614 This demo was re-released as another game under another developer and publisher (only 2 days after the "Midnight Shift" demo was put up), where the Steam store describes the full game as something where you have to escape the house of the kidnapper and surrounding area, and can do so in multiple ways, from being stealthy and evasive, to going on the offensive, with dynamic AI that responds to your play style. Which sounds cool. But I have no idea how the stuff in this demo becomes that game. This demo has a few very simple scripted events and "press E to make the screen fade to black where a sound plays." And the scripted events don't even work in the new demo. There's something really fishy and weird about this.
Roguelites are my favorite games, hope to see you play this one again! Also looks like Divine light slowly damages over time things that are above you
My first streamer! Thanks for playing. You were right about the budget. This is a personal project I have been working on to try and release my first game on Steam.
Looks way too grindy for me. Like if NCSoft made a survivors game lol. Might be cool in a couple updates. Do you have a list of games you plan on playing?
Indeed. It's not finished until it's finished. You never know. I don't have any kind of a list, in terms of demos. Whenever I feel like making a video, I usually just end up looking at the store and grabbing something about 2 minutes before recording. But in terms of full releases, I have a steam wishlist of 232 games, most of which I've played in demo form, liked, and plan on checking out when they release. That being said, about 98% of them don't have a release date so I have no idea when they'll be out to look at.
@MrJehoe what are your plans or goals for your channel?
@@t0ptircasua122 None. I just do this for fun. Critiquing and rambling about the games while playing them and having them live on youtube to look back at adds a fun element to playing games that I enjoy doing. I've already exceeded any expectations for people actually watching anything.
Nice showcase and break down! Broke my heart when you mentioned beyond good and evil and I remembered the sequel may never be real lol. Looking forward to you playing some more of these
Apparently the new remastered version of BG&E (that comes out in 2 days and was announced after I posted this video) has a new mission in it that links the story of the first game to the second. Doesn't mean it can't just disappear, but Ubisoft is still insisting that it'll come out.
Cool vid! I liked that other than dungeons if hinterberg these were all demos i didnt play so i got to hear about even more!
Glad to hear it! Thanks very much for watching.
Watching this back, I'm frustrated by what I did in the hedge maze. Towards the end, I would start by immediately going right and checking a dead end. Then after checking everything on the right side, I'd loop back past the elevator to go left and in the process, pass the dead end right in front of the elevator, thinking that was the first one that I'd checked when I hadn't actually looked at it yet. I legitimately think the hedge maze is just number of statues and I was confusing myself in the maze.
Thanks for the review, we appreciate it!
congrats on the 100th video joe

Any standouts from the Ludonarrative fest for you? You've got one of the best sets of videos on it that I've seen.
My two favorites were Mind Diver and Minds Beneath Us. (Coincidence that they both have "mind" in the titles) Mind Diver was just a really cool way to explore a world. Minds Beneath Us was very well written and did an awesome job of creating actual sympathetic characters in a very short amount of time (and then placing them in an interesting situation).
