Raising a stour Lighter

Stour Lighters operated on the River Stour from 1705 until the early part of this century carrying cargo up and down the river including bricks, grain, flour, manure and coal. Most of the boats were made in a dry dock or Basin at Flatford, although others were built on a boatyard at the top end of the former Gasworks Cut near the River Stour Trusts premises. Sadly, its remains were destroyed in...
Take care!

The reason I have uploaded this album is that it is almost impossible to get hold of these days (I don't think its in press anymore) I have spoken to many people who love the rest of Chris Wood and Andy Cutting's albums but have not heard this album at all. I cannot see why RUF records are not re-pressing this album, because its in great demand. So here it is...

The first tune is Les Trois Steps à Méo from Jean-Marie Verret
Who wrote the melody to this?
So beautiful and timely
Please release this again and lusignac . Two wonderful albums that should be in many music collection.
That's pretty fast sloe gin.
❤
Praise Andy kershaw that introduced your craft . Saw you both at the Albert Hole. And at the one off at Iford Manor in the garden cloister . Albion is a great collection of your work . Full of beautiful stories and tunes .
Love it
Tremendous, gorgeous, pure, heavenly. Thank you, it uplifts my nowandagains
For any who would be curious -- This lovely tune was composed by Chris Wood, and arranged by he and Andy Cutting for this recording. One of my personal favourites.
I'd struggle to stay sat in my seat listening to this! Someone better hand me more gin to keep me in one place!
Still going strong! brilliant duo
Imposters! 😅
This video is just wasting my time
this is my favorite version, first time I heard you guys play it in Saltburn.I was blown away.I bought the CD and played this song over and over. your two are so great together.you both have the most beautiful voices.love the harmony.
Thank you
I also tried over and over again to get a copy of this album. I even emailed Chris Wood and offered to pay £15 if he would copy the album on to a blank CD for me, but he couldn't be bothered. So, against my principles, I went onto an American site and copied the album for FREE. I love the three walzes fused together (Valse efter Tor Lohne)
I 100% agree with Royce below - Hexham hearts too - I bought this on mP3 when it came out within 30 seconds of hearing it
Thanks - This CD was just what I needed today!
Looking so young here.! A great number in their Bellowhead act, still to come..!
Top of my pops
Amazing
Yup
nice playing thank
Pure delight
Hauntingly simple, simply sublime.
Their cd,`Kite`,is so simple, innocent&lovely.I purchased it many years ago & `are still waiting in hope of a further`...I cannot find,`Kite`, on UTube, but it must be here somewhere? They are surely two of the most under rated artists`.I do hope a record company will offer them the chance to write & record another album/cd.My order will be straight in to my local independent record shop.Perhaps other artists with whom they have worked could use their connections . . ?
That's some oddball piano in the A part of the first tune... hard to accept that bass line
frankly the finest, most moving version of this song I've heard, would make a stone weep!
A great tune composed by Marcel Messervier living in Montmagny in Québec ( french Canada ) Marcel is à lovely person , great player , composer and accordion maker. His swing for dancing is awesome..!
It's bloody dance music..get up and dance.
Very glad you've uploaded
Haunting, crystalline, sublime.
Amazing job! One question; how was she ever found?
certainement la plus belle pièce du disque, aves la valse efter tor lohne... Je cherche la partition. Quelqu'un l'aurait-il?
Thank you for sharing this! A favorite choral piece which never fails to remind me of the beloved director who introduced it to hundreds of singers. This version is lovely.
I would not let go of this one!
wow, words cannot describe how good that is.
So beautiful, hope he plays it tomorrow night in south london, ha
Thank so much for posting this - you've made my christmas :)
They're not disbanding, they are merely distributing their talent.
So, folk music is all diddly-dee, eh? These guys are shit hot...sad to hear they are disbanding.
Dis band mustn't disband 😱
wonderful
Completely heart breaking.Tragic, beautiful. Utterly sincere. I defy anyone to listen to it without getting through a box of tissues, especially if you have the words in front of you.
Fabulous tune, Irish? Must be
Actually, according to the notes on my CD booklet, Chris Wood wrote this, and he and Andy Cutting arranged it for this recording.
@@gmartingould Thank you for your reply, it's been a while since I have listened to this wonderful piece and you reply on the next day, I guess that's what counts for sychronicity
@@rumplestiltskin5280 I love coincidences when they happen! And yes, it really is a fabulous tune. Cheers!
First time I've heard this in nearly 20 years since I saw them at Whitby folk festival. Thanks so much!
Tunes originally recorded by the wonderful Rose Murphy on her LP 'Milltown Lass' in the 1970s.
Anyone heard the Kris Drever version? Both totally beautiful... great song.
