Restorer of old pipes. I also make my own home-made pipes with hand cut stems. Also, homemade bowls generally made with Australian eucalyptus wood and other introduced trees.
I have an eBay site where I sell these items at a reasonable price.

A pipe can be art too.
This pipe was a request from someone who has a taste for art as well as a good tobacco. I hope you enjoy watching this video, if you do.

From tree to bowl in 6 months
Просмотров 1117 месяцев назад
A friend that I work with gave me a small load of wood from an Ash Tree. As a thank you, I made her a bowl from some of the wood. So roughly 6 months after they chopped it down, I turned a bowl from it.

Another Freehand Pipe.

This is another Freehand pipe. I used a different type of Vulcanite for the stem and found it easy to use and really comfortable on your teeth. I was a bit worried at one point that it wasn't vulcanite. Then I smelt the Sulphur.

Refurbishing two old Meerschaum pipes

A funny little Dunhill pipe

Resurrecting an old Peterson 314

Another ebay acquisition that I couldn't resist. It had a hole drilled right down through the air way out the bottom of the bowl. The hole had been repaired with Araldite. I'd love to know what some of these old pipes have been through.

Australian Iron Bark. A beautiful but extremely hard wood. Virtually indestructible, in fact it's even to dense to float. Even the bark is almost an inch thick and can withstand extreme heat.

Awesome
Some mighty fine work there. If I could afford it, I'd get you to make me a nice sitting poker. I'd like to get me a local pipe.
Thank you, Mr. Brown. Appreciate your comment mate. I actually have a Poker for sale on my eBay shop right now, for not a lot. It's a small one but has a good size chamber. The link is in my channel info. Regards, Kevin

Gun smiths use an epoxy called acrylate for wood stocks. it is heat resistant and permanent. Try it out next time.
Beautiful - thank you for showing this
You are welcome mate. Thanks for watching. Cheers,Kevin.
Nice job, and loved the ending sequence.
Thanks Man. Appreciate you watching and glad to hear the ending was encouraging for you. God Bless.
nice
Hello Mark. Good to see you dropped in Bro. 😊
Nice work mate.
Hey there Glenn. Good to hear from you mate. Regards, Kev.
Hi, is there a way to neutralize the head of a meerschaum estate after scraping it out? You can't go like Bruyere and do it with salt and alcohol.
Hi mate. Sorry I've only just replied. I hadn't seen your message. If by neutralize, you mean sterilize or clean, you are correct. You can't use alcohol like you do in briar. I always sand the inside of the bowl as far as I can till, I just start to see lighter coloured Meerschaum. Sometimes this is impossible though, as the carbon has penetrated far too much. So, I at least make it smooth. Having said that, I will wipe it out with alcohol and use it to clean the inside of the shank. The problem arises when you allow it to soak in. I hope that helps and, thank you for watching and your question. Regards, Kevin.
@@aussiebulldog9706 So regarding this, you would not recommend buying a 100-200 year old smoked historic estate meerschaum, that i want to smoke then?
@@Prismit-m7v Oh man, I'd buy it. Just clean it as best you can. Remember that it will probably be reasonable fragile. Particularly where the stem and shank meet. If your really worried about any living organisms inside, UV rays kill a lot of things. Anyways, I've smoked this old pipe a few times now and I'm still ok 👌 let me know what you decide. Kev
@@aussiebulldog9706 thanks!
New subscriber here. Thank you for such an informative video on cleaning up meerschaum pipes.
Hey Thankyou Bob. I really appreciate you watching and your sub. I have to tell you though I wasn't aware of the "Fuming" finish around the rim until somebody brought it to my attention. They were made on the Isle of White. Wish I'd know. Oh well, now I do. Anyway, Thanks again. Regards, Kevin. 😁
That pipe has a hell of a ghost. And I don’t mean from tobacco. That thing is haunted.
😂 You could be right Blake. Everything I tried turned to pooh. But eventually, it came together. Thanks man. Regards, Kevin.

Oh, right. Well thanks for your comment, Brother. Enjoy your day and thank you for watching. Appreciate it. Look forward to seeing one of your videos.
I was really wanting to see how you shaped the mouthpiece.
Sorry mate. I probably should have. I always do the final shaping by hand with files and sandpaper. I appreciate you watching and your comment. Regards, Kevin.
Nice job!!
Thanks mate, and thanks for watching. Appreciate it. Regards, Kevin.
Thanks for showing the process you follow, really enjoyed watching it. How did you you treat the stem to make such a shiny deep black?
Hey MJ, thanks for watching mate. After bleaching the stem and cleaning it, I buffed it with tripply compound and then carnanba wax. Then buffed it with a clean buffing wheel. Hope that makes sense bud. Cheers, Kev
@@aussiebulldog9706 Thank you Kev. You made a lovely job.

G’Day, Mate! Nice to make your acquaintance! Just gave you a sub. Shawn, aka “Ghost Cob” sent me Down Under. Been there before, to Sydney. Glen is a great friend of mine. I love the Old Bugger (almost as much as I love Stonehaven!🤣). I’m glad to know ya!
Hey there, thanks Ninja. Glen is an old Bugger. Although down here we'd say old Bastard. He's always got something to say, that's for sure. Yeah, I've heard him pooh, pooh Stonehaven often enough. He's a shit stirrer, that's for certain. Cheers mate. Kev.
Kev, I already love you, too!!!🤣🤣🤣✌️. I’ve been known to stir a little shit sometimes, myself!😉
A up cliff, can’t believe I’ve found you here, 😂😂I’ve just got a meerschaum estate pipe that kind of matches what my dad had need some work so I’ve been trawling looking for help found this channel and subbed in hello bulldog 😊seem to have a problem with the air hole can get thin wire in with difficulty but not a pipe cleaner so reckon it needs a super deep clean possibly a drill bit running down it. Bottom of bowl a build up with mortar required as well looks to be very worn, any advice would be grateful, it is clogged with tar stem and air hole huge amount of cake in the bowl which I’ve scraped out very gently
I don’t know a damn thing about Meerschaum, Bob! But I think you have found the right bloke to ask!😉

Dude, thanks Man. Always look forward to your reaction. Love you, Dad.
Hey Kev, that Peterson being an African meer came from Laxey pipe factory on the Isle of Mann with a "fumed" rim stain. Almost all African meerschaums have a fumed rim.
G'day Jeff. Thanks Man, that's very interesting information. I'd never heard of that before. I did some research from what you told me and it's amazing. I have to say that I don't really like the look but now I know for the future. Cheers Man. Regards, Kev.

Kev you went above and beyond my expectations my friend. They both are great smokers. Thanks again mate!!!
Thanks Glen. I'm very happy that you like the work I did. I opened the latakia a few days ago. Very smooth and I don't think it's gunna last too long. Kev.
Done well, played strong
Thanks Bro. Well said. Regards, Kev.
nice job kev
Thanks Mark. I'll keep it short.
G’day, thanks for sharing. Very heavy wood, why did you leave rim so thick for. You could have undercut it a bit to reduce the overall weight. Yes I agree ironbark is great turning wood and oh the Georgia’s red colour of heart wood. I liked the fact that you used a little epoxy to seal cracks and voids. I’ve used epoxy for same reason. Blue colour goes really well with iron ark as well. Good finish well done.
Hello Greg. Thanks mate. Appreciate you watching. Yeah, I did leave it a bit thick. It was a wedding present for some friends, and they wanted a really heavy bowl that they could chuck stuff in and eventually have a battered looking patina on it. I've done an iron bark container with a blue coloured epoxy and it does look awesome. Thanks again Bud. Regards, Kevin.
Hey Aussie bulldog! Looks gr8, funny I thought the resin would hav filled the wholes to😅, one less thing for me to try, I'm thinking bout getting into the hobby, any recommendations for my first lathe, I just moved to 5 acres on the mornington peninsula in Victoria and I have a few banksia trees.... which sparked the idea 😉
Hello furry. Sorry man, I've only just found your comments. Yeah, the fact that the resin didn't fill the holes was more to do with me and the way I poured the resin in. I didn't notice it worked its way up against the side of the container. You learn by mistakes, I guess. Lathe, wise I use a carbotec lathe and it's plenty good for what I do. Just depends on what you can afford too. Thanks for watching man and your question. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Nice spot there too mate, the old peninsula. Regards, Kevin.
Too cool Kev! Came out great and fun to watch. You are inspiring me to take a crack at something more than pipes on the lathe. Thanks for sharing with us. Best wishes.
