I know this is not specifically a Miyazaki movie, but many traces of his style stand out from the rest of the staff. Especially tough, dual-wielding babe-with-an-attitude Kathy, who shares many traits with other “dream girls” found in his actual movies. I was oblivious when I saw this at 7, but watching it as an adult I was reminded of Robert E. Howard’s “Queen of the Black Coast” starring Conan the Cimmerian. This movie feels more like a child-friendly version of the former than Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”… Is Miyazaki a closet “Conan” fan? If so, that would be awesome.

You need to do more videos bro. Im not asking to do them often, just consider doing them sometimes.

I'm happy to see these thoughts articulated so well- showing why these different manga make an impact and what makes their art special. It's so frustrating to see people say one's art is lazy or amateur when, whether it's appealing to you or not, it's done with incredible care and intention. You also explained it really concisely which isn't easy.

This movie has very curious Universe. There are only Three Human characters, when rest of characters are anthropomorphic animals. It's bitly similar to Disney's "Treasure Planet".

I was still living in Japan when I saw this. I also played the Data East Laserdisc game based on this, called Bega's Battle. I'm still haunted by the ending though. What did it mean when the sound went silent and the camera closed in on the stag?

I literally got into this back in 1983, from the Bega's Battle Laserdisc arcade game, and it inspired me to find out more, and look at anime in a different light than just badly dubbed/edited shows like Battle of the Planet and so on.

People ignored you when we needed you the most

I can understand them just reading a synopses of the Piccolo arc and Frieza arc out of context, and just melding them together, but what could possibly lead them to think that was what the Red Ribbon Army arc was about?

I bought the dutch VHS tapes back in the 90s because they were uncut. I absolutely loved this show.

I watched the RUclips upload of this entire anima before I inadvertently came across both your review of the original English dubbed American 1960’s series anima along with this subsequent review of yours of this 1990’s version. I found this ‘90’s version interesting both visually as well as story wise, but I also was saddened by the gratuitous gore a truly awful, and completely unjustified shame for young impressionable viewers to be exposed to. Instead for example of the 8th Man (which for whatever reason was called the 8 Man instead) grabbing hold of the various cyborg characters’ robot limbs, and ripping them off in order to stop the cyborgs from what they were doing he could have just as effectively neutralized them by merely crushing the mechanisms of those metal limbs without all of the hideously obscene visual, and audio enhanced horror of ripping the prosthetics from their limbs.

Don't blame Saerom. Blame Cartoon Network for choosing Saerom to animate Steven Universe. If I were in charge of where Steven Universe was animated, I'd choose an animation studio in the Philippines or Malaysia. In those two countries, the language barrier (at least in the metropolitan areas) is minimal. Also, you'd get better-looking on-model animation from either of those two countries for cheaper versus South Korea. Cartoon Network really needs to invest in vendor studios that aren't from South Korea, that way there's more competition to go around. The only cartoon that wasn't animated in Korea was Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which was animated at Boulder Media in Ireland. The Powerpuff Girls Rule! was also animated in Ireland, too.
