Laxlife: Offense Drill #1B - "Give & Go's" (Shooter & Crease)
If the off-ball cutter is not open or unavailable once the ball is passed or carried low by the ball-side shooter in a motion offense, Motion/Look #3 is the next decision for the ball carrier to read, which is a cut from the player at the ball-side (same-side) shooter position, who looks for a give-and-go return pass.
This pass needs to be a “touch pass,” with the passer throwing a softer pass into the cutter as opposed to passing it with full strength, on a rope, as we say. The passer also needs to be aware if it’s a suicide pass because of the receiver having to be looking back over their shoulder in order to see the passer; in which case the pass shouldn’t be made if the player is in d...

Laxlife: Offense Drill #2 - Off Ball Cutters
Просмотров 8216 часов назад
The second look in a motion offense is to get the ball low and look for an off-ball cutter; refer to our motion offense video for a global view of this entire offensive system. The concept of off-ball cutters is a principle in most offensive systems, as you rarely want to just be standing on the outside and not getting through the middle. It can also open up your teammates cycling and filling b...
Laxlife: Offense Drill #1A - "Give & Go's" (Point & Shooter)
Просмотров 3819 часов назад
After a walk through or drawing of the motion offense, which is used to teach beginners how to play team offense, our proceeding series of offensive drills are designed to drill each of the different looks or options that are available within this offensive structure. The most fundamental aspect of the motion offense is the give and go, beginning here with the point to shooter give and go, whic...
Laxlife: Transition Drill #8A - 2-On-1 & 3-On-2 "Fast Breaks" From Centre
Просмотров 91День назад
By the end of a 10 week minor lacrosse season, a great goal for coaches working with beginners and younger lacrosse players, is to train players to be able to identify a 2-on-1 and then execute in breaking it down to a 1-on-0; a concept which applies to most team sports. In lacrosse, this is accomplished by ball carriers being a threat until pressured (or, carrying until pressured), as we say, ...
Laxlife: Transition Drill #3A - 2 Player Out & Ups
Просмотров 11514 дней назад
Whenever running up the floor, transition players should never run alone; a teammate should always be trying to turn a slow-break into a fast-break or simply be there as an outlet if their teammate is pressured (otherwise known as “running in two’s”. Opposing teams will sometimes try to pressure up during a slow-break (especially if they have the short change), so defenders need to “support” ea...
Laxlife: Stickwork Drill #3 - Corraling & Catching On-The-Run
Просмотров 5114 дней назад
This drill is a great intermediary step when building up both loose ball and catching skills from stationary to dynamic. Having previously rolled the ball back and forth with a partner, the player now needs to scoop the ball after a full run in the open floor. For catching, before partner passing on-the-run, which is the next step, this drill progression allows players to practice catching the ...
Laxlife: Transition Drill #1B - Basic Out & Up ("Run It Deep")
Просмотров 9014 дней назад
If no fast break is available, wherever possible players transitioning from defense to offense should attempt to “run the ball deep” to the far side in the offensive zone, as low as halfway down the side-boards at the "mid-boards" as we call it, if not pressured. This will turn the heads of the other teams’ defense, sometimes allowing the 3rd, 4th and sometimes 5th player coming off of the benc...
Laxlife: Transition Drill #1A - Basic "Out & Ups"
Просмотров 9821 день назад
After playing successful defense where the goalie smothers the ball after a shot, there is a loose ball obtained by a defender or perhaps there is a 30 second shot clock violation by the opponent, a defender will find themselves with the ball and their job being to safely advance the ball into the offensive zone. In some cases they will receive pressure from the opponent and some they won’t. Th...
Laxlife: Systems - "House" Defense
Просмотров 20421 день назад
A basic "house" zone defense is essentially the inverted coverage of the prime scoring area, in the shape of a stick-figured house (a square with a triangle roof on top). Zone Defense: A style of defense characterized by defensive players covering a certain area of the floor, as opposed to individual players. In the "house" defense, two defenders cover the crease positions, two cover the shoote...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #D8 - "Trail Check" Drill
Просмотров 6828 дней назад
If a defender is cleanly beaten and the offensive player has a direct path to the goal, the defender should first work hard to regain position and then wait to time a “trail check” when the offensive player cocks their stick back to shoot. The player that is chasing will likely have just one opportunity to trail check their opponent, so players have to be selective and not waste their opportuni...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #7 - "Recover" Top Side
Просмотров 12128 дней назад
Despite a defender’s best efforts, inevitably the offensive player will get a step ahead of them on their top-side, after perhaps getting beat with a well timed dodge or series of dodges; and this drill is all about recovering back into top-side positioning after that has happened. For a more detailed breakdown of defense in box lacrosse, visit laxlife.ca/fundamental-skills-analysis/defense For...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #6A - 4 Corner Checking ("Top-Side" Defense)
Просмотров 10628 дней назад
While playing 1-on-1 defense, defensive players should generally try to take away (“deny”) top-side and offensive players should try to get over top, in order to get quality shots on goal (from inside of the prime scoring area). "Top-side positioning" refers to a defender’s feet/hips being in line with the opponent’s top shoulder (relative to their stick), “over-playing” their top-side with a “...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #5A - Rollies Partner "Box-Out" Drill
Просмотров 80Месяц назад
“Boxing-out” literally means to establish body position between the ball and the person challenging for possession When the opposing team shoots the ball it is the responsibility of all defensive players to control their check before attempting to corral a loose ball off of a rebound, especially the defenders who are checking the crease players. At the end of the day, boxing out is all about im...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #4A - Shot Blocking ("Close The Gap")
Просмотров 78Месяц назад
A defensive player must be able to position themselves to take away “outside shots” by an offensive player without “screening” the goalie. Players should be in a “closed stance” and overplaying the offensive player’s stick (standing between their stick and the net), at the same time closing the gap on the shooter as best as possible. Closing the gap is when the defender rushes out at a ball car...
Laxlife: Defense Drill #2 - Monkey in The Middle
Просмотров 22Месяц назад
Keeping your stick up on defense is probably the most important habit to build and is something that gets harder as players get tired, like a boxer keeping their arms up in a fight. Having your stick up will knock down 1 in 10 passes simply by accident, and this drill is about learning how to move your stick ever so slightly once it’s up to mirror the stick of the passer, perhaps allowing defen...

Sorry but that’s not how u properly do it we take the back in the front and we ➡️ and than while it’s rolling back we put our stick infront and we scoop

  • @toyorover1313
    @toyorover1313 Месяц назад

My theory is that with the old wood and gut sticks the thicker lip of the stick made a normal 'scoop' a bit more difficult than it is with the plastic sticks. Thus the success ratio was closer to other methods of picking up the ball. Not to mention that in box lacrosse this has it's uses when in the corner. Easier with pinched sticks.

@@dontaescisson7472 because it's an all or none technique that is not as efficient as picking up the ball with proper fundamentals. Why risk it? Where we've seen people use it in games is in a scrum where there's no chance to pick up the ball regularly. Some people might "bat the ball" out of the scrum, where others are able to use this pick up technique, which the best are able to do with one hand (again not proper fundamentals). Bryan Kazarian (NLL) was the best at it.
