    Great video :) just wondering how this compares to the Paparoa in terms of how rough the track is? Thanks ! 😊

    • @getoutside519
      @getoutside519 29 дней назад

      @drTeddyJo hey there, I would say overall it maybe smoother than paparoa. The first climb has some bumps but there are some sections on dirt that are amazingly smooth. They would be similar in terms energy expenditure. If you managed the paparoa then the heaphy is absolutely achievable and enjoyable.

    No expense spared in signage but the signage is pretty poor in delivery the message. I took a wrong turn and went down the Pike29 memorial trail carpark which left me having to call out the police to get a lift back to Punakaiki.

      Lucky you living in such a lovely region. From the start of the track its about 14km to where we turned around. Because it's out and back you should be able to Guage your battery life pretty well. I would have liked an ebike on the main climb as it was tough. Thanks for watching and I hope you get a day like we had for your adventure

    Thanks for this great video - it inspired me to visit Queenstown, and I did this trail last week. Awesome scenery, so glad that I did it, it's a great back-country trail. Highs - well, the scenery, the flow the sense of achievement for finishing a great ride. The lows - well, there's essentially no shade for 95% of it, and those climbs are long in full sun. Take some chain lube, all those water crossings and dusty climbs had my chain dry and crunchy by the time I got to Arrowtown. Oh, and Macetown road is a pretty disappointing trail to end to such an epic ride

  • @PAC-fp9hy

    I did the trail back in the early 90s. It was a tough climb out of the car park, a partial ride along the trail's contour and then onto Spooner Lake and then another climb before the full on descent. In those days, there were parts of the trail that had various home made repairs where it had fallen away and it was quite tricky to navigate. I remember at one point someone had put an old iron bedframe to cross a gap. It was also the days before disc brakes and so the deep sandy descent from Spooner Lake always required constant braking. When you got to the bottom, you had to prise your fingers off the brakes handles!

    This is such a great video of a stunning ride. Thanks for sharing! I was doing some research into the track and your footage and commentary have helped a lot. I don't think I'm skilled enough for the Grade 4 section (which I believe starts at around the 5 min mark in your video), so I was planning on doing the Skippers Pack Track or Skippers Road detour. As far as I can tell, that should rejoin the loop trail somewhere near Greengates Hut (12 min). I was wondering if you could confirm whether this is true, and whether there is any signage for the detour? Thanks so much.

    • @getoutside519
      @getoutside519 9 месяцев назад

      Hi, yes I'm sure you can go down skippers road which is also stunning then at the bottom lookout for a turn right and climb back up the pack track a bit to the turn. Unsure if it's marked at the bottom of skippers road as I'm not a local. I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to find if you can get trailforks map or similar. Hope that helps and you have an amazing ride out there....it is stunning and very rewarding. You'll probably sleep very well after doing it. G
