Phil is that you?
Are you still in Mitchell?
Yes! Mitchell, So. Dak!
Hey, how does that foam hold up during use? Would a thin wire wrap help in durability or would it hurt the fly as a floater?
The foam is more for body aesthetics, so a light wire or mono rib wouldn't hurt anything. Maybe add a CDC underwing for more floatation. Durability really depends on catch rate and how chewed up it gets. We had a day in the Bighorn Mts last fall where these flies were showing some wear and tear after catching so many brook trout. Good problem to have I guess!
Hi, Where can you find this Larva Lace foam??? Thanks. Tom
Hi dear, I Hope you are Well? DO you Want a professional RUclips Thumbnail Designer? Let me know please Thanks.
👍
Great looking caddis ! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I bought some silver and olive larva lace due to curiosity, but im wondering if you could make one of these but with the olive being bucktail. I would be making something smaller to mimic an emerald shiner the steelhead i fish for eat and will be using small bead chain eyes
Great idea, We'd love to see that!
Why using foam with this technic. The foam lose its ability to float. If you use it without wrapping and just tie a piece of it close to the hook eye will be a different thing.
Where can I buy 100 of these? Jeff
Looks very nice!
Thank you!
Thanks for demonstrating!
No worries!
The foam material is very nice. Looks to be very buoyant. Nice pattern.
It's a great foam. Used all over the world.
Tied this pattern back in the late 90's for a shop in Hamilton MT. I occasionally add legs to pass for small hoppers. Over all I have found this pattern to be one of my favorites as a general searching pattern where ever caddis were present.
Great call on legs! We've used both super floss and knotted pheasant tail. Both work great.
Bonjour j'adore vos montages et cet apres midi j'ai fais un essai dans un fleuve le rhone dans le 69 en France et surprise un brochet de 50 cm merci a bientot
Glad it is working for you!
I have tied this up and caught smallmouth and spotted bass. Really great pattern. Polar flash works really well too.
That's awesome! yes, polar flash would make a great sub. Tight lines!
Very nice pattern
Thank you!
Just right. Love it. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Cool, simple fly - my favorite kind. ...I'd tie it on a red hook...
Keep It Simple and Sparse (KISS)
Nice one!
Thank you!
This is one of the best nymph patterns in our box!
Nice one thanks
Thanks for checking it out!
👏👏👏👏👍
👏👏👏👏👍
THX!
Awesome as usual. You guys always bring it!
Always!
Looks nice. I think I'd tie it with olive instead of blue to match the Great Lakes emerald shiners.
Great idea! I'd like to see that.
Just subscribed.Like the detail verbage.Thank You.
Awesome, thank you!
Totally love this pattern. First time ever seeing it. Definitely has the Clouser foundation. I think what I like that is different is the dubbing body showing clearly on the sides, and the staggered Marabou clumps on the bottom. Nice profile. This will slay fresh and salt here in South West Florida. Great instructional skills by the way! And thanks.
You are so welcome! Thanks for all the positivity! tight lines
I first came upon this pattern a number of years ago on fly anglers on line fly of the week. There’s slight variation on tying it and materials used. Chenille is used instead of dubbing(I feel it’s way more durable) and white portion of deer tail again mor durable than feathers. Also, I use bead chain- cheaper than barbell eyes. As far as colors- Chartreuse has caught many crappie, blue gill and bass for me.
Thanks for the great feedback! The saying around here is that you can use any color as long as it's chartreuse. 😂 Great pattern, whatever variation or color scheme!
If it’s not chartreuse not in use. Not white it’s not right. I heard that all the way in Alaska from our halibut guide.
Thanks for this tutorial and the materials list with the part #’s! So great!
You are so welcome!
I always appreciate Your LL Tutorials 🎉 🌟🎣💫
Appreciate your support!
🎉VERY NICELY DONE ✅,, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND CREATIVITY,,, BE SAFE
Thank you very much!
Black buggers are about as long-used a pattern at night as there is. I like the pusher feathers on this model. I do mine with a hearing aid dome threaded on the hook with the cup side forward. Makes it a little popper that is easy to see and hear even in broken water.
That would be very effective! Fun to explore the possibilities of night patterns!
This fly is a strong search pattern. It is " nothing " but it seems to work on both sea run and regular brown trout and arctic char here in ICELAND.
NE Iceland? Lake Thingvellir?
Good idea !
Nice pattern
Thanks a lot!
OH THREAD ON HOOK. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT? KEEP YOUR BUG IN THE WATTER!!!!!!
wtf are you talking about?
Are you OK?
Truly enjoyed the Tutorial 🎉 Happy March L.L. 🥳 🌟🎣💫
Same to you! Thank you!
Great video, I like the way you tied that, good proportions. I wasn't aware of this Harvey pattern but there are some that use those cupped "cheek" feathers. I wonder if those are modeled after the Pusher. Yes the big fish come out at night, trout, walleye, bass. My personal best brown came on a #6 black and olive bugger, just at last light, from a local creek I fish. Kinda freaky walking out of the creek in the dark. Thanks!
Gotta try this tye! I love fishing bass on my lakes at night! Cassadaga,N.Y.
this has worked well on largemouth and smallmouth. Give it a try!
The original was tied with loon feathers, even with two "pushers" at the rear of the fly as well. Fun to experiment with different materials as the pushers. The eeriness of nighttime adds to the night fishing mystique! Appreciate your feedback.
What brand is that material stacker you are using.? You tie a nice fly. I bought one to.
Old midge pattern, been around for a long time. Effective
What is the thickness of the foam?
This is equivalent to 2mm. Larva Lace foam is not tightly condensed closed cell foam, and ties very nicely.
this would have been nice to have along this summer
Yes, a great summer pattern. Also a very important fall fly in our western waters.
Just stumbled on your site and was very impressed by this tie so I have subscribed. Looks ideal for our summer down-under in NZ. Regards.
Awesome, thank you!
This is exactly what I've been searching for. My goal is to catch walleye on an imitation worm harness. Thank you.
Glad it helps! Might try without the bead for a harness system. Let us know how it works.
Great looking, simple fly! Thanks
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
Can you describe the attachment to the leader in a little more detail. Is the leader fed throught the loops and use the tippet to leader knot as a stopper?
The leaders is attached to the front loop of the hoppicator via loop-to-loop connection. The remaining tag end of tippet is then run through the back loop of the hoppicator to ensure the fly runs flush to the water's surface. Hope this helps!
Going to use off MARATHON 🎉 Thank You !!! ✨🎣💫
Rock on! Let us know how you do.
Fantastic 🎉Pattern there LL !!!! 😊 Will be in my box soon !!!! Thank You ✨ 🎣 💫
Awesome! Thank you!
