I’m 62 years old and I remember when I was about 18, my mother swore off GE due to a decline in their products’ reliability and value.

Layoffs give a good show on a quarterly report but don't work out in the long run but we live a few quarters at a time so these trends don't get noticed until it's to late.

All of american business is built on fraud. Whether its GE or any Tech companies. they are usually nothing more than a front for the governement. Whether its the GE's, or other large industrial conglomerates that follow the us into the places we perpetrate war or whether its the tech companies that are nothing more than a front for the nsa so they can collect and collate and sort all the personal information from your purchases, movements, interests, sexual desires, etc. worldwide. The secondary benefit is the illusion through mass propaganda - that you live in free country with a free market which you don't. This gives peope the illusion that they can work hard and grow and get ahead. which they can't. It's why America over the last ten years has had negative population growth and negative immigration yet ever increasing debts. I worked at a GE subsidiary what I witnessed was inept management, high turnover in mgmt - four mgrs in two years, and white corporate welfare. Meaning you bring somone in for a new product, that they later decide to not launch. They then take from the other peoples workloads and give to one who they brought in for a product they now no longer are pursuing. Instead of using Lifo (Last in first out) they took from others so they could retain. Not that he wasn't capable. You just won't usually see that happen for non-whites.

Beatrice CEO James Dutt decided the combined company only needed half of the lawyers, salesmen, accountants, HR people, etc. Second, one of the requirements of doing business in China is making it there, with a Chinese manufacturing partner. Between low wages and the price of oil, i.e., shipping across the Pacific, manufacturing in China was cheaper than the U.S. Even Mexico has struggled. Some town in Mexico has seen most of its glass ornament manufacturing gone to China.

Ha Ha worked for a GE company from 1998-2001. Before you were taken on, you had to sign a so-called "integrity Statement" Lo and behold, everyone became aware of Welch's extra-marital philanderings and wondered did Neutron Jack ever sign an "Integrity Statement"? As Ross Perot said about office affairs "If your wife can't trust you, how can I?"

I remember that guy. My father, a lot of my friends, some professors really liked him. One friend in particular really wanted to go to GE Capital. She probably got on there. But did she slug it out, and at what cost? I can remember being a young guy feeling uneasy about GE, Koch, and some other places. Now that I am old, I guess I those gut feelings were meaningful.

I don't think that Jack Welch is the best CEO ever or anything like that, but I don't think it is a good idea going around demonizing him. I notice there is a tinge of leftist thought in this video, not sure if it is on purpose or not. Those who see "inequality" as the ultimate evil, think that it would be better to "distribute wealth" equally across the population and this is simply communism. The creator of this video is probably not old enough or hasn't had the time to study history and see the catastrophic effects of communism around the world. 150 million people (and this is a conservative number) have been killed, or better said, assasinated by communism. They say they want to help the poor and eliminate "inequality", but what they do is, divide the population creating groups who see eachother as the enemy (rich vs. poor) and they use the clashes and conflict to seize power forever. Once they gain access to power (even if it is democratically) they change constitutions and laws to ensure that THEY remain in power forever. The end result is the biggest inequality possible: the entire population in abject poverty and the ruling class, those who belong to the party or are part to the elite live like the burgoise they said they hated. I truly cannot understand how there are still people today who think that leftism and communism is a good idea.

"the strategy is to be number one or two in everything we do"... except the constant cost cutting/outsourcing/research starvation/scheming to convert to financialization sabotaged all of that. So instead of getting to number one/two, it destroyed every division it had by the same logic it had used to get rid of profitable and valuable divisions. Thus destroying itself. This is the true legacy of Jack Welch's short sighted stock run up scheme. It was a pump and dump bucket shop scam. And every Business School of the day worshiped the stupidity.
